Leroy (Madison 08-486)

Profile

Madison is the new little boy in town, and he is a cutie!  He was born August 25, 2008, so that makes him almost 8 weeks old.  He was brought in with his Mom (Misty 08-485) and his 4 other brothers and sisters.  He is a golden mix, but looks all golden.  He rides well in the car, in fact, when I drove him home after picking him up from the transport, he crawled up on the back of my shoulders and slept all the way home.  He loves playing with our kids and our cats and dogs.  He has this cute little raspy bark when he is playing or talking back.  He also has the cutest sneeze, and will imitate our Cocker Spaniel when she sneezes.  The first couple of nights were pretty rough, as it was the first time without his mom and littermates, but it is getting better.  He sleeps in a crate by our bed, and is only crying a couple of times during the night, and then goes back to sleep after our trip outside.  He is eating great, and I will sit by him and play with his food and pet him while he eats so he doesn't develop any food aggressions.  He does great, and loves his food!  We have walked him on a leash, which he does well on, he doesn't fight it at all.  If you would like to meet Madison, please contact placementatragom [dot] org (placement) today!

Leroy -

Our puppy (and 5th RAGOM dog) has grown up into a very nice young man - a bit of premature white on his face, but no dog is perfect. In the five years we have had Leroy he has helped us get married, remodel our home and welcome two kids to our family. He loves our kids as much as we do and is looking forward to playing fetch with them when the weather gets nicer.

Leroy is still the King of the Dog Park, running up to every dog, big or small, and taunting them to play. He is unofficial caretaker for his buddy, Ford (04-258), who gets a little nervous when he has to stay home alone. He’s also an exuberant and gracious host when we dog sit for many friends.

Last year Leroy had to say goodbye to his mentor and tormentor, Sally, but welcomed Henry (13-071) into his home like a long lost older brother. They are now the best of friends and help each other patrol the back yard making sure nothing in the neighborhood goes unnoticed!

It is possible that there is a nicer dog than Leroy, but I've never met that dog. We love coming home to "Bubs" and hope everyone who adopts from RAGOM feels as lucky as we do.

Happy Endings – Leroy (FKA – Madison) 08-486

Maren always wanted a puppy.  I hadn’t had a puppy of my own since Sally back in 1999.  The time just seemed right. So we kept an eye on the RAGOM web site and fell in love with Misty’s puppies.  One by one they got themselves adopted so I encouraged Maren to go meet Madison at a PetSmart event.  She thought he was awfully cute and that his mom was the perfect size.  “I don’t want a 90 pound dog!  They’re too big!”  Darn!  I asked her if she wanted to adopt him.  Three dogs seemed like a lot of work, and a lot of hair.  We arranged a visit to Madison’s foster home anyway.  The visit went well, Madison was a doll.  After seeing him, we drove to my parent’s home to visit.  On the way we discussed the whole puppy situation.  Maren was interested, but did not seem thrilled with the thought of a puppy.  “He’s cute, but I don’t know.” Maybe the time wasn’t right.  I had really hoped that she would be head over heels in love with the puppy like a kid on Christmas morning, but she wasn’t.  Oh well.  Maybe some other time, maybe some other puppy.  No puppy for us…

Driving home later that night it hit me.  So what if she isn’t thrilled.  So what if a puppy is a lot of work and a lot of commitment.  I’m tired of making decisions based solely on logic, reason and safe thinking.  I want a puppy!  Let’s get him!

We picked Madison up on a Friday night.  We introduced him to Sally and Zoey (07-572) and played for about 2 hours. Then he disappeared.  Uh-oh.  A puppy loose in the house is probably pooping on something important.  What did we get ourselves into?!  After a quick search, we found Madison, now named Leroy, sitting at the back door waiting for us to let him out.  Wow!  RAGOM has the BEST foster families!  We opened the door, he went out, did his business and came right back in.  (He’s had only 5 accidents in the house ever – 4 were play related and 1 was a total mystery…)

Leroy has grown into a wonderful young man, albeit way too quickly for me!  He loves to wrestle with other dogs and has yet to meet a dog that he doesn’t like.  He worships Zoey, but she is just too old to play with him.  Everyday he tries to get Sally to play; she’s kind of snotty to other dogs, but is slowly warming up to our little guy. He is gentle with every kid he meets.  Leroy recently graduated from the third level of obedience training at PetSmart.  He will be taking his CGC test soon – he is going to fail because he can’t meet another dog on leash without getting too excited to play.  He is also one of RAGOM’s canine ambassadors.  He goes on school visits with Jane Nygaard and our Zoey.  The kids all say he is adorable.

We just love our little boy.  Maren, who was not head over heels at the start, is now jealous of me every time I pick him up from daycare.  “I miss my little boy at work!” she says.  “I just love him so much!”  I should have known she would come around.

Thanks, RAGOM!

PS – I proposed to Maren the day after we got Leroy.  She said yes!

Madison has gone on to his forever home!

Before he left, he had some unfinished business to attend to....

Madison continues to do well at our house.  He's still trying to catch on to the housetraining thing, but he does well overnight in his crate, he has never had an accident in it.  He has been sleeping through the night for a good week now, which is really nice.  He will bark and cry for a short time when we put him in his kennel when we leave the house, but then settles down and naps.  There have been no accidents while we have been gone.  He walks really well on the leash.  He will sit for his food bowl.  He has been to the vet, and is all up-to-date on his shots, and was given a clean bill of health.  He plays with the dogs, cats and the kids, so he has been exposed to it all!  As you can see in one of the pictures, he is getting pinned by one of our cats.  They wrestle daily underneath the kitchen table, and everyday the cat wins.  I assume that will change one of these days!  Madison will be at the PetCo event this Saturday in Coon Rapids from 11-2.  Come if you want some puppy kisses!
