Jayden 09-023

Profile

Hi everyone! I'm Jayden, though my foster mom and dad call me Jade since I'm a girl. I am in a foster home with my brother Cameron 09-021. I came from an accidental litter and I'm slowly adapting to living in house. I was living in a shed with pigs before I came to RAGOM. When I got to my foster home the first night, I really reeked of pig poop. My foster mom gave me a bath and shampooed me twice and even put conditioner in my hair. After the bath, I still stank a little but was a lot better. Mom said she'll give me another bath in a few days. When mom was giving me a bath, I laid in the bathtub in the corner and shook. For the rest of the night, I laid in corner and shook because I was so scared.

The first two days in my foster home I didn't eat anything since I didn't know what they were trying to feed me. Now my foster mom mixes cottage cheese and canned food in the dry food and I will eat a little, though I'm still a little unsure about it. I am still really nervous in this thing called a house. I lay in the corner a lot. I have mastered stairs (once). I watched the permanent dog in the house run up and down the stairs like 100 times and my foster mom bribed me with cheese to learn to go up and down.

I really love my foster mom and will come to her and give her lots of kisses on her face, though I don't like to leave my corner that much. I'm a little apprehensive of my foster dad. I think I'm a lot more fond of women then men. I will let him pet me if he crawls over to me but if he's standing, I get really nervous. I will only come up to him if my foster mom is next to him calling me.

I absolutely LOVE being outside. Foster mom says I have to go to a family with a tall fenced yard. My foster mom has a 2 foot fence around her garden but I ignore the fence and jump into the garden to play. She says that she's thankful that she has 6ft tall fences around the yard. The garden is a ton of fun to play in since the snow isn't trampled down. I love tearing around the yard chasing my brother and the other dog in the house. I don't like coming inside though. It takes a lot of work for foster mom and dad to get me inside. The first two days in the foster home, both foster mom and dad would have to chase me around the yard to try to get me. On the third day, I watched my brother and the res dog run inside and outside, inside and outside, and finally I will follow them in. Foster mom says that she hopes that I learn to come inside more quickly because she doesn't like being late for work and isn't keen about getting up 20 minutes earlier in the morning while I sit outside thinking about coming inside. She says it takes me a long time to make up my mind to come inside.

I absolutely hate a leash. Foster mom said that's fine for now and she'll give me a little more time adjust to the house and the newness of everything before she starts working with me with learning to like a leash.

There are three cats in my foster home. One of the cats is incredibly social and loves to rub up against me and purr. I like to sniff at her and then I just leave her alone. I'm fine when she rubs up against me and think it's cute.

I get really scared over loud noises and lots of excitement. Foster mom says it's best for me to not go to a home with young kids. Teenagers and older are OK. Also, foster mom says the family that adopts me MUST have another dog. Right now I'm learning everything that I'm supposed to be doing from my brother and the res dog. I would be really lost without someone helping me along. The only other new thing about me is mom told me I'm going in to get spayed this Thursday. I'm not too sure about that but my foster mom told me that my brother will be with me all day when I'm awake so I will be fine.

Hi Everyone,

Jayden here...I've now been with my forever family for about 4 months and it's been GReat!  Me and my golden brother Jake like to play with toys, chase each other in the backyard and go to dog parks.

Most recently, I turned one and all of my littermates came over to my house for a big birthday celebration!  It was utter chaos!  I kinda layed low with my brother Cameron and we watched from the sidelines as the rest of the pups ran around chasing balls, frisbees and played in the pool.

Life is pretty good and mom and dad say that I'm getting braver every day.  They push me a little to get out there and conquer my fears.  For example, I was in a parade with 6 other golden retrievers representing RAGOM...that was scary!  Lots of little kids wanted to pet me and it was really noisy but I did okay.  Sometimes mom brings home other golden retrievers for me to play with but they only stay for a short while.  I asked her if we could keep them all but she said we can't because they want to find a forever family of their own.  I hope they do, cuz it's really great!

Well that's all for now - here's a few pictures of what I've been up to lately!

Woof!

Hi, it's me Jayden...I have some ra-riffic rews, I've found my furr-ever home!  My FM and FD took me under their wings as a foster on April 3rd and somehow I've managed to melt their hearts and now they've decided that they can't live without me!  Yep, I'll be staying right here with my brother Jake and Poco, our cat.

Thanks RAGOM for taking care of me and finding the perfect humans for me to train for the rest of my golden life!!!

Peace, love and fetch to all,
Jayden

Hi!  It's me, Jayden.

Thing are going pretty good.  I went to my 2nd RAGOM event last Saturday and wowed the crowd with my beauty but the most exciting thing is that I got to see my litter mate Aspen (09-017)!  She's already found her furrever family and they are really nice!  In fact, I get to have a sleep over with her while FM & FD go on vacation - I can't wait!  FM & FD said I did so much better at this event.  I still tried to hide from strangers but by the end of the event, I was letting strangers give me scratchy's!

I have something really exciting to share with you.  When I was at the RAGOM event, I walked on a leash.  Yep, that's right people!  It helped that there were several dogs that walked with me.  FM said it was cute to see the Golden Retriever pack walking through the parking lot.

Some other things that have been happening around my puppy 'crib' are:

I've been given free roam of the house at night for the past week and I haven't had any accidents.  One morning, I even jumped in FM & FD's bed and licked his face until he woke up to let me outside...I needed to poddy!

This last weekend, I jumped over the back fence which is a bit taller than 3'.  Yep, you heard me right.  I saw my friend Bear (neighboring GR) and I wanted to go see him.  You should have seen FM & FD's faces!

I can walk up and down our street on a leash.  It takes a while for me to walk the whole street because sometimes I want to sit and take in the smells of spring.

I am still very frightened of little kids and loud noises.  I especially freak out when I hear little kids screaming - why do they do that?

FM says my fear of clothes on the clothes line is getting better and we'll keep working on it.

Last but not least, I went to the vet the other day and I'm all up to date with seeing the doc.  I am negative for heartworm and I have no fecal parasites.  I'm even up to date on my heartworm and flea and tick medicine.  Yep, I'm perfect!

Until next time, enjoy yourselves out in the beautiful sunshine - I know I will!

Woof!

Hi, Jayden here.  FM & FD said that I'm still making a little progress every day!  I started eating my food outside of my crate the other day.  Usually I'm so nervous that I have to eat with the crate door closed so I can concentrate on eating.  I am running up and down the stairs to the basement where FM's office and the family room are - the stairs aren't so scary anymore.  Oh!  And yesterday, I got to meet another Golden Retriever - his name is Bear and he lives in the house behind us.  It was really fun chasing each other in the yard!

FM & FD left me alone at home without Jake for about an hour and I didn't have any accidents!  I didn't show any destructive behavior - in fact, I was sitting quietly in my crate when FM got back home...she was soooo proud of me:-)  I didn't have any accidents in the house this week except for tonight.  Sometimes I get so excited when I go outside I forget to poddy.  I guess that's what happened tonight.  Sorry FM & FD.

Woof,
Jayden

I'm not afraid of towels anymore!!!

Lily's (09-166) FM took this picture of me in their backyard when we had a play date after a RAGOM event a week ago.  FM says it's a picture of two Angels.

Hi, FM here.  Jayden has had a full week of many new adventures, some good and some not so good (until we can convince her that they're ALL good).

Went on a car ride to the store with FD and resident dog, Jake (they stayed in the car for 20 minutes together).  Jayden had to be picked up and placed in the car as she is scared to jump in by herself and basically wants nothing to do with cars.  Jayden decided on the way home, she would rather be in FD's lap than lay in the back of the SUV with Jake.  Other than being a lap dog, she did okay.

We found out that Jayden is terrified of clothes being hung on the clothesline.  I think the movement of the material makes her uncomfortable.  She cowered in the corner near the back door until we brought her over near the moving clothes and held her and comforted her.  As soon as FM let go, she retreated back to the corner.  We'll keep working on this!

Jayden LOVES fetch!  She has found her calling - retrieve and retrieve and retrieve!

The neighbor kids (4 - 7 yrs old) came over to the house over the Easter weekend and Jayden was not at all interested.  Again she retreated to the corner of the house and cowered.  After about 10 minutes, she paced by the door but never went much further.  Jayden's furr ever home should probably not have any young kids as Jayden is very nervous when there is screaming or any really fast and sudden movement.

Jayden is very comfortable in the backyard and loves to play with our resident dog.  We decided to bring her to the front yard so she could experience a little more activity (walkers, bikers, cars).  She sat very still at first and eventually I got her to move around by throwing the ball.  But then a loud car drove by and she ran to the backyard.  She is a very frightened little girl which we hope she will grow out of.
We're still working with the leash.  She runs around in the backyard with her leash on but as soon as you pick up her leash, she will sit down (even lay down) and won't budge.  I tricked her a couple times as she followed me in a quick walk around the backyard - I picked up the leash as she was moving.  This worked until I couldn't keep up with her (when she began to run), and she felt the slight tug and sat down.  We'll keep trying though!  We even tried leashing her to Jake to see if she would just follow him but no luck.  She wouldn't budge!

Jayden went to her first RAGOM event at Petco and met so many great people that gave her lots and lots of love.  She was pretty scared but by the end of the event, she walked around a bit with some encouragement - we're so proud of her!  She wants all of you to know that the day was a little overwhelming but when she got home and processed it all, she wishes she would have been brave enough to give each of you a great big kiss!  She even got a very special blanket from the Girl Scouts which she sleeps with in her crate.  It's very soft and snuggly - BIG kisses to the Girl Scouts!  After the RAGOM event we got to go to another RAGOM foster home and play with some more...what a scary but very wonderful day!

Have you ever seen the movie, 50 First Dates?  That is what it is like with Jayden.  We have to basically re-introduce ourselves each day and re-assure her that she has nothing to fear.  By late morning, she seems fairly adjusted and calm.  Jayden's furr ever family will need to be very patient with this special girl.  Once she gets to know you, she will give you endless kisses and endless love.  When she's in her calm state, she thinks she's a lap dog...Yup, a 49 pound soft, cuddly lapdog!

This is what happens when the leash is on...I sit on my fur butt and I don't move...not even an inch.

This is my 'crib' - all doggies should have their own palm tree, right?

Snuggling with my very special blanket from my Girl Scout friends...thank you!

Hello to all my puppy peeps and fans!  Jayden here, giving you an update from my foster pad!  I found out where the computer is, so thought I'd bang on the keys a bit to let you know how I'm doing.

I've been at my new foster home now for a week and I'm very slowly adjusting.  FM and FD let me run around the house, jump on the bed, and play outside in the big fenced yard with my resident brother, Jake.  I like to chase him around and try to get whatever toy he has.  He tries to get my toys too so it's only fair!  For the first five days, my FM and FD didn't allow anyone to come to the house so I could get used to my surroundings and become part of the household "pack"...whatever that means.  On the fifth day, my FM's brother came over and it was kind of a scary situation. I'm still very unsure of strangers.  Since FM works from home, I have learned to trust her more than FD since he leaves for work most days.

I still like to hang out in my crate but not as much as I used to.  In fact, FM sometimes has a hard time getting me to go in my crate when she has to leave the house or when it's time for bed.  FM works in her office all day, so Jake and I lounge alot between playing outside.  FM likes to play classical music for me to listen to - she calls it some kind of "Fur-Shui."  Weird, I know - but it's kind of nice.  It helps me to relax.

Yesterday, FM was outside playing with us and the neighbor came to talk to her over the back fence.  I went and hid in the corner near the back door because I've never seen him before, so I was scared.  They talked for about 20 minutes and I finally got the courage to get within two feet of the fence and I barked for the first time at my new foster home!  After he didn't bark back, I sat down and got some ear scratches.  FM said I was a good girl and very brave.  Oh, and I also learned a game called fetch!  It's really fun...FM throws the ball and if I go get it and bring it back to her, she'll throw it again!  We played this game for 20 minutes until I wore her out.

Like I said, I'm still very cautious but making a little bit of progress each day, as I realize a dog's life is pretty good.

FM says we'll be working on my fear of "the leash" in the upcoming week - I'll do my best!

Woof!

Jayden arrived at our home on Friday afternoon very frightened and maybe a bit confused with the change of environment.  We first played in the backyard for a while before introducing Jayden to our resident golden retriever, Jake.  Once we let Jake out, they seemed like long lost relatives!  She was very curious as to who this new dog was that looked much like her.  Jake and Jayden spent some time playing in the yard although Jayden would retreat at times to corners of the yard and also jumped into the small empty rhubarb patch that has a 12" small fence around it.  I guess she felt safe in the fenced area.

FD arrived home after about an hour of playing outside and Jayden was curious but kept her distance for the most part.  She seems to warm up to FM a bit more, although Jake is hands down her favorite.  It was then time to introduce Jayden to the house.  She is having a challenging time adjusting to the hardwood floors but we strategically placed some rugs in a few spots and it seems to be getting better.

After a couple days in the new foster home, Jayden is starting to feel a bit more comfortable.  She still finds solace in her safe place (crate) but will come out with some coaxing...a bite of beef hotdog seems to do the trick most of the time.

Jayden loves to run, chase a ball and play tug-o-war with her foster brother Jake.  It wears FM out just watching them run back and forth and in circles...whew!  We are working on the leash as Jayden is not fond of any type of leash.  We tried a harness with her and she likes to just sit down and roll on her side so she doesn't have to go anywhere.  We're certainly not going to drag her!  We are slowly getting her used to leashes by placing a few leashes around the house on the floor and she walks around the house with a leash on sometimes so she can eventually learn that a leash is OK!

Overall, Jayden is adjusting slowly but nicely to her new foster home and we will continue to provide updates as she overcomes her fears and anxieties.
