3/26/07: The Princesses have arrived! All of them royalty and named after cartoon princesses. These sweet babies are part of the dogs rescued from North Dakota. I know if they could, they would like to thank all the many people who helped them. Each little girl has her own personality but all of them are full of puppy kisses and cuddles. Anastasia or Ana for short, has a light blonde coat and seems to be the most confident of the 4 girls. She is named after the title character in Anastasia. She was not actually a princess but a czarina; royalty none the less. She has been to the local vet and has been given a clean bill of health. Now all she needs is her very own family.

Finley (Fix Weber) 1/31/07-7/3/17

Finley was one of a few dozen dogs rescued from a puppy mill in North Dakota by the RAGOM organization (then known as Anastasia). She was one of the last dogs left and we were thrilled to adopt her. Our skinny, leggy, smart and sassy puppy grew to a whopping 95-pound beauty.

She loved hiding in bushes and being outside in our front yard. She loved hiding in bushes or being perched by our front door all day long. She was a sun-worshiper. She had a bad knee but it never stopped her from keeping up during a walk. She was often scolded for sneak-eating her brother's food. She was totally harmless, but her bark was big and she was feared by a few mail, Fed-Ex & UPS drivers. She hated thunderstorms and would retreat to our closet or the comfort of a bathtub! She LOVED tearing open presents by herself, and was very skilled at getting all the paper off the gift! She was a beautiful, loving companion to us, our kids, & her fur-brother Hunter.

Also known as Fin, Cha-Cha and Saucy Finerita, she was our very first family member. She saw us through our engagement, our wedding, the adoption of her fur brother Hunter (also from RAGOM), a new house, and two human siblings. Through life and her death early this morning, she did everything on her own terms. We are heartbroken and will miss her terribly.

Thank you RAGOM for choosing us to be her forever family.

Anastasia arrived in our home last Monday, after a two hour drive from Minneapolis to her new foster home in Willmar. She was tired, but greeted our two Goldens with much enthusiasm! The first night here was a little stressful for poor Ana, as she (and our dogs) stayed in the "dog room" all night until she and her new foster siblings could be treated for mange at the vet. Since then, she has been happily sleeping in our bedroom (in her crate) close enough so foster mom can stick her fingers in the door whenever the little girl starts to whine a little. Just a sniff and a lick of foster mom's hand seems to be enough to calm her down, though, and the nights are getting longer now so she must be getting comfortable.

Ana is a super sweetheart, with big eyes that just seem to say "I don't care who you are or where you came from, I love you." She is very calm when she's around people, big or small. We had her around our little niece and nephew, and she was just great. They tugged her around on a leash, played fetch, and carried her around with her giving no complaints. Ana LOVES to play. In between her very frequent puppy naps, she is full of playful energy, moving from toy to toy, very independently most of the time! She will fetch a ball and bring it right back to you over and over again. Ana loves to run, and especially outside! So far, she always stays close to us or the dogs when outdoors, but that could change as she gets a little older and a little braver! For now, though, she follows our dogs everywhere as they explore the yard, watching and emulating every move they make. She even played keep away with the Frisbee the other day, and she thought she was pretty darn funny, too!

We have dubbed Ana our official "gallery dog", as she has been hanging out at our art gallery during the day, greeting customers with her cute "love me" face, letting them pet her and pick her up, and behaving like the perfect charmer. Plus, because of the ND puppy mill fame, everyone knows about these dogs and they are all so eager to actually meet a real, live rescued puppy! You can see their hearts melt as soon as they lay eyes on her. Our customers will miss having her around, we're sure!

Little Ana has had an upset stomach since she arrived, (tested positive for Giardia), and is taking pills, which she does not care for at all. Feeding her those tiny pills has been tricky, but now that we switched to a boiled hamburger/rice diet, she doesn't even notice that we slipped it in with that tasty food. Right now, at this minute, Ana is snuggled up against our 7 year old Golden, who is pretending not to notice but secretly loving that cute little pup (who couldn't?).

Ana will love a home where she can play, play, play, and then snuggle on her persons' lap until she falls asleep. She would be great with other dogs in the home, with kids, and she would also be just fine in a quiet home where she is the spoiled one. We are going to be very sad to see this angel leave, but know that she is looking forward to finding her forever home.

PS, Ana has two more weeks of shots for her mange treatment, so any adoptive family would need to see that she gets her remaining shots if she is adopted within the next 2 weeks. She is very itchy right now, but much less "mangy" than when she first arrived - her sores are disappearing fast, and she will be all better very soon.
