Hello Everyone! My name is Annie and I am a special girl. I am only a year and a half year old Labradoodle and my past was a troubled one. I spent my time in a crate and was not socialized with people, so I am very fearful. Before coming to my current home, I spent five days with a very nice lady who taught me that not all people are scary. I even gave her some kisses as a thank you. Two nice women picked me up from there and we made the trip to this place I live now. When we arrived I was too scared to get out of the van. I had to be carried in, and this thing you people call a leash just makes me "freeze". I am not quite sure what you want me to do when that thing is on. The first few days were challenging for me. There are so many noises in a house that I have never heard before. There is this big square on the wall and it makes all kinds of noise. I guess you all call it a TV, and STAIRS, what are those? FM had to carry me up and down those for the first three days to get me to the fenced in backyard so I could do my business. Good thing I am a petite girl and only weigh 42 pounds. Going in and out of doorways is also scary to me. For the first few days FM had to put me on a tie out because once I was outside I was too scared to come back in. She tried everything...hot dogs, food, pleading...I guess she thinks this below zero weather is too cold to stand out in with the door open. I have it figured out now though and prefer the warm house. She still has to talk nice to me to get me to come in but I give in pretty quickly and come through the door. I do love being outside. I will doodle bounce all around the yard. I will chase after the resident Golden here, Alli. I am still learning appropriate play with other dogs. FM says I am pretty submissive and stop when the other dogs here let me know they don't like what I am doing. You see, I came into heat the day before I came here and there is this cute little neutered male dog here named Rocky and I do like to flirt with him. I will bounce around him and I want him to pay attention to me and like me. He just stands there like I don't even exist so sometimes I get a little upset about that. FM says she hopes this whole heat thing is over soon so I can get my spay surgery and not be so hormonal :)

FM says I have been a brave girl and I have came so far in the week I have lived here. I will go to FM when she says my name and let her pet me. I even will paw at her when she stops. I am still unsure of the other people that live here and I am very jumpy with noises. I know with lots of time, patience and love I will continue to make steps and learn to trust people. I have a lot of love to give and FM says I am so sweet. I will need a home with older kids, a fence and another large dog to continue to show me the ropes. I met a cat and let it rub up against me. I don't currently live with one but I don't think I would mind having one in my forever home. If you would like to meet me, please let your Placement advisor know! I will keep you updated on all my progress. Until then, have a Merry Christmas!!

Updates

Friday, February 24, 2017

Hello, everyone! This is FM tonight. Annie is sleeping next to me on the couch, so she thought I could take over the update this time. Annie continues to become more and more comfortable with each passing day. She is learning to trust more and more. She is still startled by loud noises and she likes to stick to her routine. Walks a certain way around the counters to get outside. She takes the path she has done before and knows is safe. She does still hide out in the bedroom if other people are in the house besides FD and me, but she comes out on her own now when it is just us. She likes to sleep on the couch or love seat. She rarely uses the dog bed in the living room anymore. She does sleep in her dog bed in the bedroom at night. She would love to share the bed with you, but FD prefers her to sleep in her own bed. Big meanie! :)

She did attempt to initiate play with my small dog Remy, but unfortunately Remy is a little snooty and did not play back. Annie would really like a best friend in a dog she could bond with. She loves to run around the yard and play with our Golden Alli, but inside the house, I think Alli is a little too intimidating. Alli likes to play rough, and that is just not Annie's style. She is more calm and is just learning how to play, so she likes to take things slow.

She will cuddle with me now and will sleep on my lap as you can see from the new pictures. She also played with a toy out in the middle of the living room, which for a puppy mill girl is a huge step. Annie is about as sweet as can be. She does not jump up, does not counter-surf, does not get in the trash, and has no bad habits. She is sniffing and showing some interest in our plates when we are eating, but listens to "no" very well.

We did attempt to go for a walk over this past weekend because it was so beautiful for February in Iowa! We made it to the end of the driveway, and she refused to move. So she hung out on the bed while we took the other dogs for a walk. So I have been working in the backyard with her with a leash. Just learning to walk on the leash is new for her. She is getting better, but still needs a lot of work in that area.

We have gave Annie free roam of the house for short periods, 2-3 hours. She does fine, and I honestly think she just sleeps on the bed the whole time. She is housebroken and has not had an accident since Christmas day. So you see, she is well on her way, and I have no doubt she will continue to improve more and more. She will require a lot of understanding and patience, especially in the beginning, but she will make a special family a wonderful dog.

Happy Valentine's Day, Annie! From your BFF Winnie! Happy Valentine's Day, Annie! From your BFF Winnie!

Tuesday, February 14, 2017

Hello, everyone! Annie here. A lot has happened since my last update. I continue to learn to trust and I have even played a little with the resident Golden INSIDE the house. I am all recovered from my spay; I did get an abscess at my incision site and had to take an antibiotic for that. FM says "it looks great!"

FM and FD went on vacation last week. They went to a place called Mexico, and this meant I had to go to a sitter. I went to an awesome place with some pretty awesome people. There were SEVEN Golden Retrievers there for me to hang out with. I, of course, was scared at first, but by the end of the week, I had learned their routine and fit into their pack very well. I especially liked their resident Golden Winnie. She let me be her friend, and I took comfort in that. In my forever home, I will need a friendly, playful dog that will accept me and allow me to bond. Do you have a dog looking for a best friend? If so, I am would make a great one!!!

FM says she thinks I would do best in home with someone who likes to stay home more often, as the outside world scares me a lot. I am young and I am sure with someone who is willing to work with me, I could learn to tolerate the outside world more, but I really like just hanging out in the house or running around a fenced yard. I am quite athletic and had a blast running around the BIG yard at the sitter's house. I love being outside in the yard so much FM still has some trouble getting me back in the house.

I would really like to get to my forever home and show someone all the potential I have. I am learning every day and coming out of my shell slowly! If you would like to meet me, please contact your placement advisor!!!

Just wanted to give a quick update on Annie. She is recovering very well from being spayed. She left her incision alone and did not have to wear the cone of shame. She weighed 43.8 pounds and the vet said her ideal weight should be around 45 pounds, so she will always be a petite little girl. They did do a partial teeth cleaning; her front teeth looked great but they did clean her back molars and said her gums are a little red.

Annie is figuring out that living in the house has its perks. She likes to rest on the bed now and will even give me kisses and cuddle. She also will hang out in the living room and prefers the sofa or love seat. At night she will sleep in her dog bed without any issues and we still crate her when we are gone. She does not mind this at all. Annie has no bad habits and just wants to learn to trust and give love and receive lots of love back. She has mastered the "golden paw" and will use it when I stop petting her. She still does not feel comfortable enough to play with my resident Golden in the house yet, but does like to run around the yard with her outside. Annie will need a fenced in yard at her forever home and it will need to be a consistent height of four feet or higher to keep her safe from her fears.
If you would like to learn more about Annie please contact your placement advisor! Until next time.......enjoy all the new pictures! 😁

Annie has been making big strides since the last time we checked in. She is slowly learning to trust. She does allow me to cuddle her, kiss her face and has even been coming back inside today without the tie out. She loves to be outside in the fenced yard. She will doodle bounce and run around the back yard. In the house she has yet to play. My resident Golden will attempt to play with her but Annie is not comfortable enough for that yet. She prefers to hang out in the bedroom and would stay there all day if I would let her. I do bring her out in the living room though and she will hang out on the dog bed there as long as it is quiet. If someone  comes through the door or if a noise startles her she will retreat back to the bedroom. She is startled by louder voices, clapping, and even things as little as placing your cup on the table. Over time she may improve with some of these noises, but Annie's forever family needs to understand she may always have some fear and prefer the quiet environment.  She will require a family will a lot of patience that understands it may take months or even years for her to believe she is safe. If you are a family willing to make that commitment you won't be disappointed. She is very sweet and has so much love to give. She is a very special girl and deserves the very best.

Annie here! I hope you all had a Merry Christmas! I want to give a BIG THANK YOU to Pam and Susan for the winter icons for my page. That was very sweet of you. FM says I have a lot of fans out there cheering for me every time I show my bravery. I have figured out that FM is pretty nice and even FD isn't so bad. I will follow FM down the steps to go outside as long as no one else is down there. There are two college kids here on Christmas break and I am still unsure of them. They keep petting me and telling me what a good girl I am so I am starting to warm up to them. Every day I am learning something new. I hung out in the living room all day today in my dog bed. This is a big step for me because I was always hiding in the bedroom or in my kennel.

This is a big step for me because I was always hiding in the bedroom or in my kennel. My ears are feeling much better. When I first got here I was shaking my head over and over again. FM says they were full of yeast so she has been treating them the last couple weeks and I don't shake my head anymore. My skin was also irritated and they thought I had ringworm but the vet here thinks I might have had bacterial dermatitis from my poor living conditions. FM has been giving me antifungal/antibacterial baths twice a week and my skin has improved a lot. She also has been putting topical medicine on me as well. I enjoy my baths now. The first time FM gave me one she used the sprayer and Oh, I did not like that! She now uses a big cup and fills the tub with water for me to soak in. This is they way I prefer my bath and will sit perfectly still while you clean and pamper me. Noises still startle me. I am getting used to the TV. My ideal forever home would be a quieter one with another large dog. I may never be the social butterfly and may prefer a safe spot if you have company over, but I promise you if you give me some time and patience and a lot of love I will warm up to you, be so grateful, and love you forever. I will need a special family that understands puppy mill dogs. Does this family sound like yours? If so please contact your placement advisor because I would love to meet you! Until next time I wish you all a Happy New Year! I already know this is going to be the BEST year I have ever had!
