Hello, Bailey here. I would like to say a big hi to all and to thank everyone who helped me into RAGOM. My former owner is so appreciative (but also so sad) that RAGOM is going to find me a great new home.

Three years ago, I was a very lucky stray who found a wonderful home. I have been adored, trained, and showered with love during those three years. Now, at 7 years old, my owner is moving out of state and, sadly, she can't take me with her. We were such good pals and I am used to lots of bonding time, long walks, and plenty of retrieving both on land and in the water.

Now, for the future... I am hoping to find a forever home where:

  1. Someone is home with me lots.
  2. Someone will love, love, love me. (I will return the favor and love you too!)
  3. Someone is committed to taking me for walks EVERY DAY and throwing the ball (I will be coming complete with my own Chuckit).
  4. Um... that's all I can think of now, but Foster Mom and I will be working on telling you more soon.

Love,
Bailey

Hi, everybody. Guess what???? I have been adopted! I think I hit the jackpot with my new family. They are the best. As you can see, I LOVE THEM!!

AND.....I have a new brother, Max. I like him lots too!!! He's very nice.

I have been a lucky dog. I have now had two great families. My first mom rescued me from a shelter, got me off to a great start and loved me lots for almost three years. She couldn't keep me, but I want her to know that I will be happy and loved in my new life. Thank you, RAGOM!!

Love,

Bailey

Is Bailey doing well? He surely is, and we have really gotten attached to this big guy. He is such an easy dog, so gentle and affectionate. He makes few demands and is happy with some pets, some retrieving, some walks. He loves, loves, loves his walks and is learning to walk nicely. He always keeps an eye out for squirrels in our wooded neighborhood. I have been very relieved that when he spies a squirrel, he will just watch it and not attempt to chase it. My shoulder thanks him for his self-control! Yeah! He doesn’t always have that self-control when he spies another dog, however. I have found that he can be a bit of a challenge when he sees a dog who he really wants to meet. Then, I see just how friendly, and strong, he can be. If it happened often, I would use a Gentle Leader or harness with him which I have successfully used on him. But we rarely meet other people or dogs on our walks, so I use a regular leash, and we do fine---most of the time!

Does Bailey like to play with other dogs? I’m not sure. He has briefly tried to initiate play with a couple of non-playing dogs, but nothing came of that. Then, we had a playdate for Bailey and a neighborhood Springer Spaniel who normally likes to play, but neither seemed to feel like playing that day, so the jury is still out on whether Bailey is a player or not…. I can say, however, that he likes to get his fair share of attention, and I have become good at petting two dogs at the same time - Bailey on one side and Lacy on the other.

Did Bailey like visiting the nursing home? Yes, he sure did. Last week, Bailey joined my resident dog Lacy and me on our weekly nursing home visit. He did a great job, spread a lot of joy and enjoyed all the attention.

Does Baily like to snooze? You bet!! And, he has a favorite pillow in the family room. Somehow, he always seems to beat Lacy to it. At night, however, Lacy beats him to the favorite one at the end of our bed, and instead of sleeping on his own nighttime pillow, he sleeps close to Lacy on the floor----just in case she might move off of it, even for a second, which she never does (although she always sleeps with her upper body and head off the pillow as you can see)!

Did Bailey master our basement steps? Sure did. Both up and down with no hesitation.

Does Bailey do anything else cute? Sure does. He plays a game called “find it.” His surrendering owner taught him this game. We hide a treat when Bailey is not looking, of course. Then, we tell him to “find it,” make a circle with our finger, and he will search and search until he finds the treat. Is that cute or what????

Bailey is doing great! What a nice houseguest he is. He is very undemanding and takes lots of snoozes, but is poised and ready for action whenever he senses there might be something fun coming. Is it walk time, Chuckit time, swimming, riding in the car?? He loves them all. Being outside is sooo fun!

He is also poised and ready when I move around in the house. What a shadow he is. He does not let me get lonely at all!! The only time he doesn't follow me is when I go down to the basement. He usually has initial hesitation when he encounters a new set of stairs. But, sometimes, he just barrels up or down. Now, he readily goes up to our second floor, down off our deck steps and down the steps to the lake without a thought. But the basement steps seem too scary. I'm wondering if there was an unpleasant situation with basement steps in his early life. Or if he is just unsure of what he will find if he goes down. We have been coming in through our walk-out basement after we go down to the lake or play with the Chuckit, and he has no hesitation going up the stairs. So, I am hoping that soon he will associate that set of steps with fun and will scurry down also.

Bailey was a very good boy at the vet's office. Here are the results

  1. He weighed in at 91 pounds. The vet thinks 85 pounds would be better. Ahh, couldn't we all stand to loose that last 5-6 pounds?
  2. He is current on all his vaccinations and is on heartworm and flea and tick preventatives.
  3. Heart, lungs, eyes, ears are very good.
  4. The vet would like to see Bailey have a dental cleaning sometime in his future. He has some buildup on the back teeth and a benign epulid (small lump) on his right, upper gum. He saw no reason for concern or immediacy on those.
  5. He had a few little scabs under his left ear from scratching. Often, this indicates ear infection, but Bailey's ears are clear, so the vet felt that Bailey must scratch that area when he has water in his ear after swimming. He shaved the area and gave him an antibiotic injection with instructions to apply antibiotic ointment to the area.
  6. The vet felt that no action needed to be taken about the 2 seizures that Bailey has had in the past. One seizure was in June of 2012 and the second in December of 2013.
  7. All in all, a healthy dog.

Below are a few pictures of our fun today:

Bailey is a gem. He has the pure Golden looks and personality through and through!
