Bear (Brody/Bear 07-670)

Profile

This gentle giant is about 1 1/2 yrs old. Was brought in during the snow storm with his other friend Lauren from  Coon Rapids. He is a little smelly and underweight according to the vet. He is UTD on shots. He is 88lbs large in size. Black in color. Beautiful dog. Good health. He is neutered. With some good dog food he will gain some more weight. He will have a bath tonight but I think I will need 3 people to help me because he is big. Slept very well last night after 3 cups of food and lots of water. No accidents in the house. We kept him in the laundry room last night and while I'm at work until we get to know him better, then he will be able to roam the house freely. Had a few treats and took them very gently. The vet says he is a mix of Golden and some Newfoundland breed in him or lab. His paws are huge. He is gorgeous. He will not be around long. More updates to come as we get to know him more.

If you would like to meet Brody he will be at the Richfield Petco on Saturday, December 8th, from 11-2.

From Bear's (fka Brody) forever family...

We have had Bear for 1 year-3 months and we couldn't be happier. The first 4 months we had him he didn't bark, when he did - wow. There was a stranger in the back yard, yeah Bear. It is so nice to wake up or come home and have him just want to love you. Thank you so much RAGOM/Barb for allowing us to meet/adopt this amazing animal.

Bear continues to do very well. He has been here for 1 month. He is showing his true personality now. He has so much energy and love to give. I was talking to another foster that has a Newfoundland because Bear is 1/2 Newfy and 1/2 golden which he has the best of both breeds. He is my gentle giant. He is such a sweet dog. You couldn't ask for a better dog to foster than Bear. He gives 150% of love to you. I have learned allot from him. He only wants to please you. He has such a mellow personality. I was crying the other day and he came up to me to kiss my tears. It made me cry even more to see him do this. You have the best of both breeds and you have an animal that will be your best friend for life. All Bear needs is a family that will work with him on training and discipline but that won't take long because these two breeds are highly trainable animals. Please give this wonderful animal a shot yes he is black yes I have people you can talk to about the Newfoundland breed. You will not be sorry you met him. His job in life is to please you. I am really glad Bear found his way into our lives, he will always be my favorite foster. I know it is my place to find him a great home and I believe I have done this. I will truly miss him. He captured my heart. But the time has come for him to go to his forever home.

Now it brings tears to my eyes to have to say goodbye to Bear. He has found his forever home with the "C" family. They came to see him and fell in love with my gentle giant. They are so excited to have him join their family. They went out and purchased lots of new toys and 2 bed pillows. I will forever love my Bear Bear.

I made them promise to send me updates and call with questions they may have and visiting rights. I have a couple more photos of him. Please take great care of my Bear .

Love and Kisses to my Bear Bear

Bear is doing very well. It's amazing what a lot of food and a good bed will do for him. He has come a long way in just the 10 days I have had him. He is really opening up with us. He wants to play ball and run in the snow. He met our grand Champ tonight at the park on leash. They were fine, they wanted to play and play. So we brought them home and took off the leashes . Well all went well and they played hard in the snow until they were both worn out. Champ went home and Bear is sleeping now. He needed to burn off some puppy energy. So we will have Champ over on Sunday to play more. Bear always played with his sister Sadie so we will have to watch Bear as he plays with other dogs because he is very large and powerful.

He is house broken, no accidents. We leave him alone 8 hrs while we are at work. Has free run of the house. He continues to gain more strength and energy every day. He is gaining weight . He will either need to go to a dog park daily to burn off his energy or have another dog to play with. He will try and climb a fence so he needs to be watched closely or have a high 6ft fence. Maybe an invisible fence might work. Does fine with cats although I don't have any. He is fine with kids. Although due to his size he would probably do better with older kids, the small ones he can knock over cause he's a large dog. He has played with 2 different dogs and was fine with both of them.

He likes the furniture and the bed. We have to keep telling him off so I think he was able to be on them at his previous home. But he would love it if at his forever home they let him up on the furniture and bed. Loves to be near you but doesn't demand the attention like goldens do. He's content just to be near you although he won't object to some petting and belly rubs. He enjoys our 2 mile walks daily using a Gentle Leader because he is so strong. Well we know Brody-Bear is a cuddle bug and a Lap dog. He is doing very well here. He is a very sweet mellow dog. He is 16 months old. Does very well with other dogs.

We went to the Petco in Richfield today from 11-2. Met lots of nice families - some came just to see Brody-Bear. He is very good with everyone including kids. I have had him 5 days and he has fit in very well at our house. Loves to follow you around the house. Wants to be where everyone is. But doesn't need a lot of attention - just wants to be near you.

Bear would do very well with or without another dog. Does fine with cats. Seems to be housebroken . Only had one accident the second day. But has been fine ever since. No anxieties, no resource guarding. No fear of loud noises. Loves car rides. No storm anxieties. Loves to play in the snow. When he runs he's still clumsy because he's still a puppy. He will make a great companion to someone. He likes to jump up so he will need some work on breaking him of this. Smaller children need to be aware of his size - he will not hurt you he's just a large dog.

He is sleeping after a long day at the Petco Event. He knows sit ,stay and come. Bear is such a great dog that I'm sure he will get adopted quickly. I have added a new picture of Bear.

The perfect home would have:

  • A fenced yard the taller the better. Because he can climb fences if he wants to.
  • Trips to the dog parks
  • Taking me swimming or to the cabin
  • Nice walks
  • A nice bed to sleep in with or without someone in it
  • A playmate or I can be an only dog
  • Some obedience training
  • Car rides
  • Lots of treats

More updates as we continue to get to know Bear more.
