07/13/2013:

Beau is very handsome mixed breed, possibly with some kind of 'hound' in him. He weighs in at 59lbs, is around 10-11 years old, and in good health other than a urinary tract infection and kennel cough, both of which he is on antibiotics for. He did have a few accidents in the house so he is not fully house trained. He is pretty good at letting us know when he has to go outside by coming up to us or in the bedroom in the middle of the night, so we need to be vigilant. Beau is being fostered in S. Minneapolis. We have had him for about 1 1/2 weeks now and he is such a pleasure to have around. He is a very relaxed dog, i.e. sleeps a lot, and gets a long great with our resident dog.

Beau was found as a stray in Iowa, taken in by a shelter there. A Good Samaritan picked up Beau when she realized his days were numbered and contacted RAGOM. Until RAGOM could get Beau a permanant foster home, he stayed with the GS on her farm and lived in the barn. There were a lot of other animals around that he had no problem with, therefore I suspect he is fine with cats. I haven't had him around children yet but can say he is very gentle.

Beau is a great eater and doesn't have any resource guarding of his food. He doesn't know any commands at this time but he is an eager learner. Beau loves his walks on the leash each evening. We only go about 5 blocks because of his kennel cough but will increase this as he feels better (and it's been so hot out so we are taking it easy).

Beau would make a wonderful addition to a home that is quieter and more relaxed, even a good friend for an elderly couple. He is super sweet and easy to have around.

Here is a photo of Beau after spending a lot of the day outside in the spring weather. He was so happy to be outside. We went for a long walk (about 1 mile is what he can handle) and he played in the backyard. Now he is sleeping and ready for another spring day tomorrow! He is looking forward to summer. Sweet dreams!

We want to give a big THANK YOU out to Maria and her husband for taking such good care of Beau over the holidays...they did a fantastic job, and Beau was so happy. He especially loved his homemade sweet potato chips made especially for him!! Since it has been so cold out, we had to bring out Beau's doggy boots. He doesn't seem to mind them too much...he is just so happy to get outside and walk a little even on these cold days.

Beau is enjoying the summer. Here are some photos of him in our backyard and then sleeping on his favorite dog bed after. He loves lying in the green grass and playing tag with our resident dog, Broder. A neighbor came over with his two boys the other day and Beau absolutely loved them. The boys were about 8 and 10. They were very comfortable already with dogs and know how to act around them. Beau absolutely loved them. It was so sweet to see them lying in the grass together and playing gently. Beau loves kids, but they need to be gentle and loving and on the quieter side.

Here is a photo of Beau being his usual sweet self. He loves when I get down on the floor and spend time with him. He will literally hug you this way for hours. I can't wait for the warm weather so I can see him running around the backyard, getting some fresh air and sun we are all longing for. Beau may be the sweetest dog I have ever met. His main goal in life is to give love...no kidding. He would make a great companion for someone who likes to walk him each day, give him nutritious food, and spend quality time together. He is more of a "quiet" dog, sleeping often, not much of a barker, but still has some puppy play in him. He really enjoys playing with our resident dog, chasing and galloping all around.

Here is a sweet picture of Beau smelling flowers and looking forward to Spring. I just can't reinforce how sweet of a dog Beau is. He is a great companion who loves to cuddle, loves tummy rubs, loves his daily walks, and loves his people. He is so gentle and would be great with well-behaved children. He is such a low-maintenance dog that when he is not wanting breakfast or dinner or his evening walk, he is either chasing his tail, resting, or dreaming of his furever home. Come visit Beau and see how wonderful he truly is.

We are so happy to have Beau back from the dog sitter's while we were out of town! A big thanks to Stacie who took Beau in while we were out of town for Christmas. Stacie said he was such a good boy that she really enjoyed having him. Beau got along great with her Golden Retriever rescue, Willow. They were both working so hard to get all of Stacie's attention. Beau loves tummy rubs; to be cuddled, brushed, petted; and any other positive companion bonding activities. I write this as Beau is lying next to me on the couch. He is a dog who loves to be around his people, who are willing to give out lots of love. He would make a great dog for anyone who wants a true friend to be with them at all times. Beau says, "Happy New Year and here's to me finding my furever home."

Beau went to the groomer's!! And he did great!! They all fell in love with him right away. He did well with the scrub down, but didn't like the blow-dryer very well but tolerated it. And...I couldn't believe this...When we went to the dog park today, there was a large puddle of water, and Beau was splashing and playing and running through it. I think he was following the other dog's behavior. He had so much fun, it was great to see. We can't believe he is 10 or 11 years old because he plays like a 3-year-old. He gets along with all the other dogs and plays so nicely.

I also wanted to be sure to mention that Beau's biopsy from a few months ago is negative. I'm sorry, but I think I forgot to post it. That is great news because this means he doesn't have a tumor or anything blocking his nasal passage. It may be allergies, which can be treated with meds. He hasn't been reverse sneezing until we got some rain these past few days.

The photo is of Beau being bashful on the couch.

Here are some pictures of Beau at the dog park. He had so much fun running and playing. He is so gentle and good with other dogs. He loves to run. I had a feeling he needed to get out and run. We have a fenced backyard so he gets some exercise, but not like this. People can't believe he is 10 or 11 because he is so playful...and his teeth are beautiful. Someone took good care of him at one time. We do walk daily, which he loves also, but we will definitely be going to the dog park more because it obviously makes him so happy.

We haven't got the results back from the biopsies of Beau's nose yet, we do know he didn't have anything stuck in his nose which is a good thing. He also is not sneezing as much either, so maybe he is healing! Beau continues to be such a sweet loving dog. He is such a good companion. He is such an easy dog to have around. He does still get spooked by some simple things we don't expect like our dog wrestling with the dog bed. Beau will go to the back door and scratch and whine wanting to go out. Sometimes he will stay out and chew on his bone and other times he will scratch and whine at the door wanting to come right back in. We haven't figured this out yet. I think he wants someone to be out with him, to not be alone. He is so good about letting us know when he has to go potty. He will go to the back door and whine and pace a little. Another thing we figured out about Beau is that in the morning he wants to eat his breakfast BEFORE going outside to potty. It took us a while to figure this out. He just wouldn't go out in the morning. So, we found that if we fed him, then he would go potty right after. He LOVES his food! Now after breakfast and potty he is snoozing on his dog bed as you can see in the photo.

Hello fellow Beau-Beau lovers: We were finally successful in giving Beau a bath. It only took 3 people. One to hold the leash, one to scrub, and one to feed constant hot dogs to Beau. He was scared, but did better than expected. Instead of using the hose, we used a cup to get him wet. This made it easier. For some reason, he is terrified of the hose. Also, Beau went into the vet today for a rhinoscopy to see if he had anything stuck in his nose because he continues to reverse sneeze a lot. They just saw inflammation and took some biopsies, so I will let you know any further updates. Oh, sorry about the photos, he is hard to shoot because he is scared of the clicking noise the camera makes and will run. We love him, however.

An update on "Bo Bo." We just love having him around. He is doing quite well. As mentioned before, he loves to sleep all day long. On the bed if we let him, which we would more often if we could just give him a bath. I did try the "dry" dog shampoo and Beau was even a little afraid of that. As soon as I brought it out, he knew I was going to do something and ran into the bedroom... poor guy. If he could only tell us his story of his past, although it may be too tragic for me to want to know. He did let me shampoo him some, and clean his ears. I didn't want to do too much because I want him to know he is safe in our home and that we won't do anything to hurt him. He still is not so sure of that, but we keep offering love at all times. Beau is still sneezing some and doing what the vet calls a "reverse sneeze" which sounds horrible, like he is choking. They took X-rays to see if there was something stuck in his nasal passage but nothing showed up. Our next step would be to do a scope at the U of M vet clinic to see what's going on. We continue to walk Beau daily, only 4-6 blocks is all he really wants, he gets pretty tired. We just take it real slow, and he LOVES this. It's one of his favorite things. That and eating. Until next week...
