Welcome to Apple Valley Bergen !  RAGOM followers, I have the distinct pleasure to introduce you to a very special 11 month old Labradoodle puppy.  Bergen is a cute and scared boy Labradoodle,

I know you are saying, you are a Golden Rescue why a lab?  That is because RAGOM is helping out an individual that is working hard to relinquish his dogs to good homes in a discreet manner.  RAGOM is taking 5 dogs this time.  Because this puppy is a Labradoodle I thought I would give you a little back ground on them.  I did a search for Labradoodles on the internet and found the following info:

Labradoodles are bred from a Golden Lab (in this case) and a full size poodle.  First bred in Australia in the 1970's as guide dogs for people who could not tolerate dogs due to allergies.  Their intelligence and loyalty has made them a favorite among families. Its early origins trace back to a gentleman called Don Evans, although credit is usually given to the Guide Dog Associations - (Wally Cochran, "official founder of the Labradoodle.  The Labradoodle is good with children and are easy to train. They get along well with other dogs. Labradoodles are extremely clever, sociable, and joyful; they are quick to learn unusual or special tasks. Labradoodles tend to be a little comical at times and can attempt to outsmart their owners if untrained.  Best of all, Labradoodles have been bred for allergy friendly coats and low shedding.

Now let’s talk about Bergen for a moment he has a very special name that means rescued in Dutch.  We thought it would be fitting to give this wonderful little boy a name that would tell him he is special and will never go without again.

Bergen was picked up by his foster mom and dad today and this little boy has been through a lot in such a short amount of time.  Bergen came in and met the three resident dogs, Sophee Bear, our rescue Golden Retriever, Coalminer and Mistee Bubbles are the resident Newfoundland’s.  As you can imagine it was a bit much for everyone to come in and get to know each other, but we made the best out of it that we could.

Bergen will go and visit the vet this Monday or Tuesday, I am guessing Bergen weighs in around 45 pounds.  Right now he is NOT up to date on shots and he needs to be neutered.  So we will get that taken care of right away to make sure he is healthy.  Bergen is terrified and will NOT walk through a door or even walk if a leash is on him.  So we will work on that very slowly.  For now we will work on Potty training and trust so he can come to the Petco event in Richfield.  He has had a bath and smells MUCH better than when we were in the car.  More to come tomorrow on Bergen.

Arthur, previously known as Bergen, crossed the Rainbow Bridge Monday March 13th, 2017 due to GDV. He was 11 years young. Arthur was rescued from RAGOM on MLK Day in 2008. There are no words to describe the loss that his family, frisbee family, and flyball family have experienced. Arthur was the kindest soul one could ever meet. His disposition and loving personality is what will be missed by all. What a good lad he was. He became a Flyball dog in 2008. He ran his fastest time if 4.499 seconds and reached his FDGCH Flyball Grand Champion in 2016. What an accomplishment for a once scared puppy from South Dakota to a proud and happy dog. We love you Arthur and may you have an unlimited amount of cheese to eat and squirrels to chase. See you soon my puppy dog. Love, your mommy, Julia.

An update from Arthur's (formerly known as Bergen) forever family:

Arthur is doing GREAT !!! He was a really scared boy when he first came to our house but now you would not even know it :)) He went to basic obedience class with his mommy and learned all the good stuff like sit, stay, come and wait :)))

We love him and I think the picture shows that he loves us, too :))

Thank you RAGOM for all you have done to rescue him and his siblings and we will see you at the picnic :))

Sweet, sweet Bergen (Bergy Boy) has made incredible progress. He went to day care with the other two resident dogs last Wednesday & did great. Jumped in & out of the car & walked in the door of a strange place with no problem. He got raves from the staff! Very playful, got along with all the dogs & was adorable! (I keep hearing that, wherever we go). One of the staff at Downtown Dogs said, when I picked him up, "I want him"! He is the sweetest, cutest, lovable creature.

Then we went to Petco on Saturday. Bergen, again, walked through the door & greeted everyone with love. Friendly with all the dogs, let kids hang on him, no accidents, & it was a great day. He was tired when we got home. Then it was time to clean the house. I could not get him off the couch to vacuum. No fear. Very funny boy!

Bergen has adjusted to a home life like magic. He has had no accidents in the house for days. He does not like to go into his kennel for the day, but after a "test" on Sunday, (which he failed), he needs to be kenneled when left alone. He is a puppy & I don't feel comfortable kenneling, but then again, you wouldn't leave a toddler in the house alone either.

Bergen is so ready to find his forever home. He needs training, love, another dog would help teach him the ropes, gets along with cats, dogs, children, all people, is up to date, no health issues, no serious "rescue" issues.... just wants love & returns it, which is unusual for a puppy mill dog. He licks your face & is happy to have a human to take care of him. I know he is very grateful.

Even though Bergen is on our Golden Retriever website, please consider adopting this Labradoodle goof, if he sounds like a fit for your home. Contact placementatragom [dot] org .

Bergen would be the perfect Christmas gift. For him finding his perfect family & for a family looking for the perfect gift.

Love, from foster mom & the resident elfs.

Bergen arrived at his new foster home yesterday, after his adventure to Petco. He was a very tired boy. He adjusted very well to a new home. He is very attentive & inquisitive. He loves the toy box & bringing stuffed animals into his kennel. He gets along very well with the other two resident dogs & even doesn't mind the cat. (she doesn't mind him either).

Bergy Boy is a sweet heart. He needs lots of patience & training, but I am amazed that this puppy mill boy has come around so quickly. He has great loving potential. We can't wait to get to know him better. Already in just a day, his fun puppy personality is coming out.

Bergen will be going to a new foster home so we can take another foster that is in serious need of medical attention and help.  Bergen has been a wonderful house guest and has made incredible progress since the first day he came into our house.  Bergen now goes outside with all the other girls to play with them.  He loves to follow Sophee around and play with her any chance he has.  His submissive peeing has greatly improved and now it rarely happens.   I sent some new pictures of Bergen that we took today, Sophee is so going to miss him.  Bergen will be heading to the Petco event at 11 and we hope to stay until 1 or so.  He would definitely like to meet all his fans.  Please if you would like to meet with Bergen, send placementatRAGOM [dot] ORG an e-mail and his new foster can set up an appt.
Bergen you will be so missed and I will keep an eye on your update so I know how you are doing.

Bergen is doing great, he has mastered going in and out to go potty, he is as active as ever at the house and thus he has to be watched carefully. His ears are bothering him today, but we are told that will be better tomorrow.  Bergen was just neutered yesterday, so we are suppose to keep him quiet. He has been treated for both ear mites and roundworms. Poor guy has an upset tummy because of the meds.

Other than that we are working very hard on getting him use to the leash, he still thinks the leash is something to fear, but slowly we are working on that and hope by Saturday he will be okay to walk around on the leash. Bergen is so looking forward to meeting people, so please come and visit him. Please be sure to tell him he is a good boy and that he will never have to fear anything again, because he is today and always a RAGOM dog.

If you are interested in meeting with Bergen, we would love for you to contact placementatragom [dot] org.

I just wanted to let all of Bergen’s followers know that surgery went well and he has clean ears. He is resting quietly nestled in his bed. As of late last night Bergen was going in and out the deck door, we just hope his short stay away from us was not too much for him and he regresses.

Tomorrow we are going to start walking around the house with the leash on so he can make it to the petco without any problems. Here are a few more pictures of our handsome boy. Are you ready to meet him now? Please contact placementatragom [dot] org to set up a meeting with him.

Welcome to day 2 of Bergens better life.  It has been a rough 24 hours, but we are taking each hour as they come.  Bergen is scared to death of the leash or lead or anything else that goes around his neck.  Add to that a door is his worst enemy because he feels know-one should ever go through them.  He does not want to be seen going number 2, so we just watch him from a distance.  We try to praise him for going but because he will not let us touch him without other dog’s right there it is tough.  The good news here is he did start going in and out of the door this evening.  So this is a great evening!  He must also go with another dog, but soon he will be making the trip on his own.

Today we went to the vet and he weighed 49 pounds.  He was brought up to date on shots and will be neutered on Tuesday morning and brought back home on Wednesday morning.  We are hoping to come to the Petco event on the 8th of December.  Oh yes and he has these nasty ear mites and they will be take care of tomorrow as well.

Because Bergen is so scared of everything he loses his bladder control very easily.  We will continue to praise him and tell him that he is a good boy and this will eventually get better, but for now, we do the best we can.  The good news is he never once lost bladder control at the vet, so he is already starting to trust s.

Last night he slept all night right next to Coal the Newfoundland, he never moved, he was so happy to have a little bed partner and was so comfortable laying there.  Bergen still smells so we will be getting another bath tonight.  However, someone did his nails before I got him, so that is a nice thing.  Also Bergen has the nicest teeth I have ever seen.

Last night Bergen and Sophee Bear did play with Tennis balls (picture below), so this makes me believe that Bergen will come around quickly and learn to trust us humans and actually come to us for love.  I can not wait for that day to happen.  He is such a handsome young man.

You know with all that he has been though and how scared he is, he has never even looked at us funny.  He has never growled or put his lip up.  He just lets us do whatever and we keep telling him we love him and will NEVER hurt him.  I am hoping he will be able to go to his forever home for Christmas; could you be that special family?  If you would like to meet this wonderful boy, please contact placementatragom [dot] org, I know he would love to meet you and it is great for people to come and socialize with him, he so desperately needs it.
