We just can't stop talking about Bonnie, she has definitely won a spot in our hearts. She has changed so much in the time we've known her. She has always been sweet, but now she's relaxed and her personality shines bright. Here are some pictures from last weekend before it got ugly hot.

Just a quick update on lovely Miss Bonnie -- she's three weeks accident free and darn proud of it! She no longer is anxious about our comings and goings and settles in and naps while we're away. Here's a picture of Bonnie with her lovely red coat -- her favorite activities appear to be eating breakfast (!), accompanying foster dad in his gardening chores, napping, chewing her toys, going for car rides, and more napping. She's an easy girl to live with once she settles in and so far has stayed off the furniture in spite of our pleas to have her cuddle on the couch! And while Bonnie can still startle when there's unexpected activity or noise she now recovers very quickly, taking her cues from our resident dogs. She enjoys attention, loves getting special time with foster mom, and has learned to take her treats very gently waiting in turn with the resident dogs. Yesterday she even had a chance to enjoy waffles and did so with great manners!
If your home has room for a lovely red girl, please inquire about Bonnie!

Lovely Miss Bonnie has had a great two weeks -- she went to a rescue awareness event hosted by the local animal shelter and was the belle of the RAGOM booth. She did great with all the attention, and there was a *lot* of attention for this sweet and beautiful girl. Kids and adults enjoyed petting her and she soaked up the attention. Her gorgeous coat was just beautiful in the sunshine. All the attention and fresh air put Bonnie in the mood for a good nap and she was asleep in the back of the car before we could leave the parking lot to head home!
We're also very pleased to report that Bonnie has not had a single accident in these two weeks. And, in fact, her last accident was probably our fault, not hers. I realize now that she came to me and gave me a chance to take her outside but I didn't get the clue. I'm much smarter now!
Here are a few pictures of this sweetie. In an earlier post I mentioned that Bonnie would do best with a family who had experience with retired breeder dogs but as she's settled in with us, I think that's not a requirement. Bonnie would do well in a quiet household with an experienced family and experienced resident dog. She can be easily startled for a quick second but gets over it as she becomes more and more familiar with the routine of the house and the behaviors of her family!

This was a great week for Bonnie! She is enjoying the great weather and opportunity to play outside with her buddies. We were a little perplexed when Bonnie decided to stay inside yesterday and then figured out that she does not like the sound of lawn mowers one bit. Not ours, not the neighbors. And she's a little suspicious of the sounds of motorcycles so we're working on all of these things. And the really good news is that she only had one accident all week, great progress! She absolutely loves getting up early these days -- loves getting her breakfast early and then going back to bed for a nap. Great routine, I'd say! I've attached a picture showing some of Bonnie's fancy footwork in playing with our young dog and then the nice nap that she needed to take after the playing was done. Hard to know which she likes better, playing or napping!
Next weekend Bonnie is going to be at a local dog event so we're going to give her a bath and freshen her up so she can meet her fans. If you're interested in this lovely girl, please send an inquiry!

Bonnie continues to delight us and she hasn't minded one bit that the sunny weather was replaced with spring showers and overcast days. That just means that she has more time for long naps, an occasional barkfest at the barkers on our lane, and playing inside with Winnie. The picture I've included shows them taking a break from some very energetic play. They both decided at the same time that they needed a break, a bit of a rest, and then started up again with much enthusiasm. Here's what we've learned this week:
- Bonnie is about 90% accident free when we're away from the house. But if the UPS man drops something off or some other disturbance to her routine happens then she will have an accident. We're still working with her on this and feel like we're seeing success but not complete reliability.
- Bonnie is even more excited about her food - each meal is an occasion for pure joy and, if we're not prompt in putting the dish down, it's also occasion for some happy barking and encouragement for us to move fast!
- Bonnie is going to do best in a house with a very reliable routine. Sudden, unexpected movements cause her brief concern, and she thrives when her routine of eating, napping, playing, going outside varies little day-to-day.
We think that a family that has some experience with retired breeding dogs would be a great match for Bonnie. She is sweet and very deserving of her very own forever family -- if that's you, please inquire about Bonnie. We believe she will continue to grow with a family who is experienced and patient -- and we know for sure that patience will be rewarded by this very loyal and loving companion.

Bonnie is really enjoying spring! She is out in the yard any chance she gets, sniffing the grass, roaming and enjoying the sights and sounds of animal activity in the ravine from the safety of her fenced yard. Most of all, she is enjoying playing with our youngest dog and running with abandon. The two dogs play an almost endless game of chase, it's great to see them enjoying themselves that way! After all that activity they retreat to the comfort of their dog beds and take naps in the sunshine only to start up another game of chase with very little prompting.
We've learned a few more things about Bonnie and found a way for her to be successful when we're away from the house -- really great news for all of us!
- Bonnie has not had any accidents in the house now for a full week. When we're going to be gone, we confine her to a comfy spot in the house with water, her dog bed, and her toys and she's been great. If we put her in the sunroom with the other dogs when we leave, she's successful (no poop!) about 75% of the time. But if she's in a smaller space, she's successful 100% of the time. The space we're using right now is the hallway right after you enter the house from the garage. Just perfect for her as she gets more confidence. We think it is possible to build on this success and gradually give her more space over time. We'll report back on that next time!
- She is a gentle girl when it comes to taking treats and although she really enjoys them, she's not necessarily treat motivated. She doesn't come running over when the other dogs are getting treats so now she's trained me to bring the treats to her. Smart girl.
- Bonnie seems to know the 'down' command and possibly 'sit' but isn't responding to shake. We'll be working on that for sure!
- Bonnie no longer needs to be reminded to come to the bedroom at night, she's often the first or second dog in there so she can make sure to get her favorite spot.
Bonnie is a very sweet girl -- a bit frightened by fast and sudden hand movements but she quickly recovers. We took her to our favorite local pet store this weekend and initially she was very uncertain but quickly realized the joy of shopping and by the time we left she was taking treats out of the hands of the woman who was running the store.
Bonnie is ready to find her forever home -- and that home should have a friendly, confident dog to help Bonnie continue to grow and build her confidence. She is playful, enjoys a good nap (who doesn't?), doesn't beg at the dinner table and gets along with everyone she's met -- two-legged and four-legged. We do not have cats so we can't vouch for her manners around felines, however. Because Bonnie can be so easily frightened by sudden movements, we feel that she would do best in a house without very young children. One good thing, she's never jumped up on us and we think that's pretty nice!
If you think you have the kind of household where this sweetie could thrive, please inquire about Miss Bonnie!

Bonnie has been with us for a week now, she's being fostered in Iowa City and is doing wonderfully. Our resident dogs have welcomed her and she's developed a lovely friendship with our youngest dog. Every time they go outside they play, play, play. Lots of running, lots of bitey face games and other games that only they understand. Bonnie quickly figured out the household routine and is a real pro at fitting in. I think her absolute favorite time of day is when she comes in after her first morning outing and knows that it's time to eat -- she has a happy dance that is contagious! She eats well, loves treats and is a very gentle dog, the kind of dog that likes to look you in the eyes and wants her fair share of attention and petting. She is such a sweetie.
At our house, we let the dogs up on the furniture but Bonnie is very reluctant to join our dogs inn this behavior. The closest she's come is putting one paw up on the couch in the living room although in the sun room, where we leave her when we run errands, she has been seen up on the couch. Who knows why, but we can't talk her into that behavior elsewhere!
When she first arrived, she quickly found two safe spots that she goes to now just for naps and hanging out. One spot is in the living room on the guest dog bed and the other spot is in our bedroom between the bed and the wall. She can easily be coaxed out of those spots to join in the fun, go for a ride (she loves the car!), or get a treat.
Her favorite person is her foster dad -- she will follow him room to room and is often found sitting by his chair giving him her best 'pet me' expression which apparently never fails to get the results she wants. If he's outside working in the garden, she is right by his side unless she's playing chase and other assorted dog games with the pack. Dad gets to spend lot more time with her than foster mom does, but she gives me plenty of special time too. Bonnie enjoys being groomed gently, particularly if you talk to her while you're combing her. She loves attention.
One thing Bonnie has taught us is that it's too soon to give her free roam of the house when we're gone -- she doesn't destroy things but she does poop! So, we've learned that if we put her in the sunroom with all the other dogs, she does just fine. No poop. We haven't tried this yet but I think she'd probably do fine when we're away if we crated her but we're going to work with her to master this so she can earn full roam of the house when we're gone. She's fine in a single room with her buddies, just seems to become anxious if she has more space than that.
Bonnie has a beautiful soft, shiny, reddish golden coat; she's gorgeous with very expressive eyes. Sudden movements can sometimes frighten her -- our household has *lots* of dogs and lots of 'sudden movements' but she is taking it all in stride!. This week Bonnie goes to the vet to make sure she's up to date on her vaccinations and to get her nails trimmed. We'll let you know how that goes! We know for sure she'll enjoy the car ride!

Sorry I haven't written for so long but we are just waiting for Bonnie to have her Spay. I would first like to thank Aly for sponsoring Bonnie in memory of Dorothy Sandberg. This is such an honor to have a sponsor. Thank you again!
Bonnie had an appointment to have her spay December 16th, 2014. On December 14th she went into heat and was unable to have her spay. Doc said we needed to wait out December and January to make sure Bonnie would be A-OK for her spay. I have her scheduled for February 26th to have her surgery and then my friends she will be available for adoption.
Bonnie is so unique, she is so darned loving and cuddly but still so afraid of everything. One day I sneezed when I was petting her and she flinched and skidded to the floor.. poor little girl.. Bonnie has made some good positive progress. She barked a couple of times, she will go outside but has a ritual of her daily business. One day we were outside and I was doing my business of picking up her business and she found a ball, I took the ball from her and tossed it and she retrieved it but wouldn't bring it back to me but dropped it close by. I picked it up again and tossed it and we played like that for about a half hour and then she brought that ball in with her. She had never played ball before.
She is getting to be a bit of a begger. I was eating in the living room she actually went over to my plate and tried to take my potato skin. silly girl. Bonnie loves to be on the bed at bedtime snuggling close to me/touching. She absolutely loves my son and gets so excited when he comes home and he is always doing crazy things to her and she just wags her tail. I'm sorry there isn't more to write about Bonnie but she is a work in progress and every day is one step closer to have her realize she is safe and loved. If you feel you have a home where you can provide this environment for Bonnie and are committed to giving her the security she truly needs please consider contacting Placement to adopt Bonnie.

Hi Everybody,
Bonnie here.. well... here's what's been going on with me and my foster family. I made it through Halloween without incident.. I've attached my halloween scary photo with glowing eyes. I was pretending to be wonder/evil dog but actually I'm a sweetheart.
I'm still working on the potty training.. I was doing pretty good had two dry weeks then all of this white stuff was on the ground and it totally baffles me as to what I'm supposed to do out in it. I like to roll around in the white stuff and sniff it but it's cold on my feet and hands and I'm just not sure about it. I like to run and play in it but my foster sis Ruby won't play with me.. :(
More information about ME... I am now very familiar with the kitchen and like to be in there when my foster mom is cooking or doing stuff. I actually went into my foster brothers room the other night on my own I might add and took a sock and destroyed it.. that will show him that when foster mom says pick your stuff up she means business.
I had my very first Thanksgiving feast... I had Turkey and gravy and some sort of dessert. It was delicious but made me very sleepy. Oh and my aunti stayed with us for a few days, it was lots of fun, she eats alot of snacks and shares. Oh and she brought us a whole box of cookies. Something only Ruby and I can eat.
I still like to snuggle up at night and sleep on the bed with my foster family and I'm getting used to some different noises. I'm eating in the kitchen and I've managed to potty on the pee pads for a few days. See small baby steps.. and I still don't like to have my picture taken.
That's all I can tell you for now but my Foster Mom will be having me Spayed in a couple of weeks. I will then be available for adoption.
If you are interested in me please contact Placement!
Signing off for today!
Yours Truly,
Bonnie

Greetings from Grand Forks,
Hi everybody, my name is Bonnie and I'm pretty shy so I will let my Foster Mom write the rest.. I'm new at this stuff...Hello,Bonnie has made so many great leaps and bounds lately it isn't even funny. She is now playing outside. She likes to bolt out the patio door and chase Ruby around, she is trying to play a bit with Ruby but Ruby is having no part of it. As I mentioned before Bonnie is a Puppy Mill mama, she has not had the advantages that our resident Ruby has had so things have been moving but one step forward two steps back.- Bonnie had two dry weeks of house training.. I thought we were out of the woods but yesterday for whatever reason she had two accidents. I could tell she felt bad about it too.. :(- Bonnie is eating but has decided she needs to eat in the living room again. Oh, we did find out she not only likes to be hand fed chicken but she also likes ham. She thinks it makes her meals tastier. She also likes little pieces of cinnamon roll and snacks. - Bonnie started taking treats and playing with toys. She likes small treats such as freeze dried liver and small training treats. Each of the girls got a new toy, Ruby the Resident got a sock monkey which she destroyed in about 5 minutes. Bonnie got a squeaky toy that bounces around. At first she was afraid of the squeak but then started grabbing it and tossing it and fetching. This is such an improvement.. for her. Last night Bonnie did one more thing that was such a joy to watch.. she wagged her tail it was like a helicopter propeller.. she was so happy. The only other thing I'd like to share is Bonnie finally made noise, she got on the bed before me the other night and wouldn't move over, she was snuggled up under my blanket and she was so darned warm I thought she would move but instead she hunkered down and snored.. I ended up sleeping on the foot side of the bed.. Bonnie slept like a drunken sailor. She loves to be close and loves to have itchies and rubs but is still skittish and the blowers and lawnmowers lately have really bothered her. She seems to think her safe spot is on her dog bed in the living room and that's fine but that's why most of the pictures I've taken are in the same spot. She is truly a dainty lady and is so full of love. Again, she is not available till mid December as she needs to be spayed. If you feel Bonnie would be the perfect family member please contact Placement.
