Boomer was adopted by the B family today! He is a very lucky boy who is going to have dogs to play with, a yard to get the zoomies out, and best of all, a family who loves him to pieces. Boomer, you were a tough one to let go; we will miss you!

Meet Boomer, a 20-week-old male (neutered) Golden puppy! Boomer is a sweet, funny puppy and such a love – he currently weighs 38 pounds, but that is changing fast! Boomer is a lucky boy; his family realized after working with him over the summer that Boomer had a little too much energy for their household, and they gave him to RAGOM so that he could flourish in a home that had just what he needed.

So, what would be the perfect home for Boomer? Boomer would LOVE to have a home with another dog that would enjoy playing with him, and also enjoy snuggling with him. Boomer and our 2-year-old Border Collie mix play and play and play; we get tired just watching them. Once he’s all played out, Boomer looks for a dog bed with a dog in it and smushes himself in, too. It's like he misses his siblings and just wants another dog to curl up with.

At night, Boomer is allowed to come up on the bed until Foster Dad comes to bed, and he snuggles up with the other dogs there, too (and his humans). When it’s time to get down, he goes into his crate without a peep and sleeps all night. He even stays quiet in the morning while waiting for Foster Mom to brush her teeth and get dressed before she lets him out.

Boomer also needs a home that will exercise him every day, rain or shine. Boomer is a really well-behaved puppy, but he is still a PUPPY. Bored puppies like to chew things, counter-surf, bark at cats, and do other things which make you wonder what you were thinking when you took on a puppy. Tired puppies, on the other hand, chew bones, watch cats but don’t care much, and fall asleep upside down with all 4 paws splayed out in various directions.

It’s a very direct, simple equation, and exercising a puppy one day only lasts for all, or part of that day – the next day, they need it all over again. Playing with our dog – although it helps a ton – is not enough; we also need to get out with Boomer and exercise him.

Boomer knows basic commands and is a quick learner - he is very food-motivated, so trains very easily. In the yard, he learned that every time he runs back and checks in with me, he gets a treat, so he is constantly running back to me to see if he can get his payoff before zooming off to explore again. He walks on a leash like a dream. His first family walked him many times a day, and their hard work is obvious when you see him trot along beside you. It’s especially noticeable when my other dogs, who should know better, are pulling like maniacs on their leashes, while sweet little Boomer just stays close and doesn’t pull.

Cats: Boomer does OK with our cats, but when he has the zoomies, he will find the cat and just sit there and bark at it. Over and over. So, if you have a senior cat, or a cat who might be stressed out by this, Boomer may not be best for you. He hasn’t chased our cats, but it was more following them around, barking or trying to play with them, but he doesn’t let up. This doesn’t happen that much, but just every few days, and usually it’s before he got a walk or many hours later when he needs to get outside and zoom around more.

Boomer is a puppy, and he loves to chew things. Usually, we have bones and toys lying around our house, and Boomer is great at choosing to chew those instead of inappropriate items. But he does occasionally get into something that he shouldn’t. Boomer does like to (gently) mouth people when he’s in a rambunctious mood, but he’s already gotten much better over his time here.

Housetraining: Boomer is still in the process of housetraining. He had been doing a great job, but after his neuter, he has regressed a little and needs his new family to be vigilant at letting him outside often and watching for signals.

If you think Boomer would be a good fit in your home, please submit an "Inquiry for Application." If you have already submitted an Inquiry for Application, please email applicationatragom [dot] org with Boomer's name, his RAGOM number, the name you submitted the Inquiry for Application under, and a sentence or two explaining why you feel your home would be a good match.
