I'm proud to introduce Brutus, a 6-year-old, purebred, neutered male Golden Retriever. His GOLDEN birthday will be June 6th . How special is that?!? He's at the perfect weight and in great health.
Brutus is wonderful! He came here from Kentucky on May 25th. He was raised by a loving couple since he was 2 months old. He has the best table manners I've ever seen in a dog. While we eat, he lays on the floor next to us. He never expects any food. He knows come, sit and down. We are working on "wait", "stay" and "shake". Brutus loves EVERY human no matter the size. We had a yard full of people on Memorial Day and he had a wonderful time. There were three 6-year-old humans and three 8-year-old humans plus lots of adults and he soaked up as much attention as he could. One girl was pulling stuffed animals around in a wagon and he was following around behind her. That made us think he might want to play with stuffed toys, but he showed no interest. Brutus will chase a ball 2 or 3 times, but that's enough. Brutus sleeps on the floor next to the bed (on foster Dad's side) and does not get on the couch. If you pat the couch he'll put 2 feet up and snuggle in your lap. He walks like a dream with a flat collar.
Brutus is finding that he's a little out of his comfort zone. For almost 6 years he's had a stable environment, then he spends 2 days in a car, and ends up in a strange place. At first, everything (except people) was scary but he's starting to get used to us and the noises we make. For example, I didn't even realize that the crisper door squeaked, until I opened it and Brutus bolted to the living room. Also, the first time Brutus saw the dishwasher open he had to creep up on it, all the while prepared to bolt if it should move suddenly. It's really kind of silly seeing what can startle him. He's been with us almost a week and he's definitely settling down, but he still seems to rely on us and our resident dog for comfort. I want to reiterate that Brutus LOVES people! He is not afraid of any size human at all. The ruckus from the kids in the yard didn't seem to matter to him either. But, foster Dad dropped an envelope and Brutus ran from the room. I'm sure it's just a matter of trust.
Brutus is looking for a forever home that will take him on lots of car rides! :-) We usually drive to a park for our daily walk and when we get home he jumps out of the car, then jumps right back in. :-) Brutus may benefit from having another confident dog around. We'll see how much he comes out of his shell in the next couple weeks. Brutus does not need a lake home, our 2 visits to creeks this week resulted in Brutus sneaking close enough for a drink, but he wouldn't get his feet wet. He seemed confused as to why the resident dog goes in and makes all those splashing noises. Brutus is such a loving dog, he'll make a great addition to a special family!
