Buddy 11-193

It's a bird, no, it's a plane, oh wait....it's Buddy the Wonder Dog! What can I say about Buddy? Well.....he is a very athletic dog, but yet sometimes he reminds me of a frat boy in ballet class. He is a 5 year old that can act like an oversized puppy. But he's just so darn happy you have to smile at him even though he couldn't stop fast enough and has just slammed into your legs! Buddy loves, Loves, LOVES balls!!! (A very Golden trait) He is happiest when he has a ball in his mouth. He loves to spit the wet, slimy thing in your lap in hopes you will throw it as far as you can for him. If you try to take the ball out of his mouth he will growl, which is just Buddy's way of talking to you, not a bad thing at all.

Buddy would do best in an active home. He loves walks, would probably like to jog (just not with me 'cuz I'm too darn fat and old!) He's the kind of dog that you could take hiking on a trail with you. I don't know if he likes swimming because I don't live close to any large ponds or lakes to test it out. He behaves fairly well while on a leash. He totally ignores my cats, gets along with my 11 year old Golden, and could care less about my four 10 pound ankle biters. I have a fenced backyard and he loves it. The minute he hits the grass his nose is to the ground. With some training he might be a good hunting dog. Buddy would be an excellent flyball competitor .Buddy's recall needs some work, but with the right motivation he would be a quick study. Buddy wants to learn and please you (another Golden trait).

He is crated while I'm at work, and so far no complaints from him. He loves to eat (guess what....another Golden trait!) He can live with other pets, or he can be an only dog. He is totally housetrained, not one accident. His SO said he would counter surf, but he has not done that at my house. I even had a stick of venison summer sausage thawing on the counter and he never tried to get at it, Good Boy! Because of his exuberance, he can only be adopted to a family with older children, 10 and up. I will be taking him to the vet Friday for his checkup. I'll fill you in with more details about Buddy after that. If Buddy sounds like the dog you've been looking for your whole life, let you counselor know and they can hook us up so I can tell you more about Buddy, the Wonder Dog!

Buddy came to his forever home in July 2011 where he enjoyed playing on 10 acres with his 2 brother golden retrievers and most recently a stray sister German Shepard that found our family. He enjoyed carrying around tennis balls and basking in the sun. He loved sleeping on his special dog bed by the fireplace on chilly evenings. Car rides were his favorite thing but he needed assistance getting in and out as he got older. We will miss him and his goofy crooked teeth smiling at us!

Buddy the Wonder Dog has turned into Buddy the Lucky Dog!! Yep, that's right, you heard it here first. Buddy has picked out a wonderful "furever" family for himself. He gets to live with two other goldens, cats, and horses. WOOT! How great is that! He fell really hard for a family that loves his exuberance and is willing to help him channel his energy into fun things like retrieving his beloved balls, long walks, and trail riding with the horses. I think his new family fell really hard for him too :) I knew it was a perfect match when Buddy could have cared less if I was in the room or not, he only had eyes for Sarah and Becky, his new human mom and sister. He happily walked them out to his new car and left on his long ride up to Minnesota. Lucky dog, lucky dog......I wanted to go with them too! Good luck Buddy, I know you are going to have a fantastic life!!

Here's the promised update on Buddy the Wonder Dog! We made the trip to the vet to get all the necessary things checked out. Buddy weighed in at 67 lbs, just the right size for a good looking guy like him. His ears are clean, YEAH! no ear infection that plagues so many Goldens. His heart and lungs sounded good according to the vet. He had a heartworm test, results are due tomorrow. He would not cooperate and supply a stool sample, soooo that will be gathered up and taken in tomorrow also. He got his yearly booster shots, with not a peep out of him. He also got Frontline applied on his shoulders. He was checked out from the front end to the back end and passed with flying colors. Buddy had some mats behind his ears, on his tail, and under his tail in his "private" area. The vet shaved them off, such an undignified thing to do to a guy, but Buddy feels much better now that they are gone. As a reward for being such a good boy, he got a Kong filled with peanut butter.....yum! It did not take him long to get it all cleaned out!

Buddy will be a GReat companion for the right family. He needs a pack leader to show him the rules and take that responsibility off his shoulders. He does well being on a schedule, morning trip outside-6:15, breakfast-6:30, workday spent in the crate, human comes home 3:45, afternoon trip outside, 3:48, supper 4:30, playtime 5:00, many trips outside, bedtime 10:30. Sleep, wakeup and do it all over again.

Buddy needs stability in his life to help him be the best he can be (sounds like a military add). He has started to settle in here and every day he is more relaxed, but he is still an active dog. Daily walks and/or retrieving a ball many, many times are a must. A tired dog is a good dog!!

Buddy has decided he wants to play with the cats, if they run, he will chase. If they stand their ground and bop him on the nose, he leaves them alone. Dog savvy cats would work out best for him. He doesn't hurt them, but some snooty cats might take offense to his crude attempts at being a friend.

If you want to know more about Buddy let your placement advisor know and they can hook us up so I can give you the lowdown/411 on Buddy the Wonder dog!
