RAGOM gives a warm welcome to Gus 17-240A, a 6 month old pure bred Golden Retriever rescued from a breeder auction in Missouri. Gus is extremely sweet and very mellow for his age. He's adjusting to life inside a home and is working on potty training. Overall he's healthy, up-to-date on his vaccinations, is being treated for an ear infection and worms, and will be neutered prior to going to his forever home. Gus did very well at his vet visit and didn't take issue with trimming his nails or cleaning his ears.
Gus walks wonderfully on leash, preferring to stick close to foster mom most of the time. He's improving his socialization but can still be afraid of new things. Most of the time, he recovers quickly with some encouragement. He has mastered the stairs in his 2-story foster home and typically doesn't have a problem going through doorways, although he wasn't so sure about entering the exam room at the vet office.
Gus is a chewer of inappropriate things and will eat things he shouldn't. He's also a toy hoarder and has emptied the toy basket and put everything in and around his favorite dog bed. It will be important for his forever family to keep things picked up and out of his reach for his safety as well as have toys that don't have pieces he can tear off and eat.
Gus currently resides with an older Golden, a Schnoodle, and cats. He likes to chase the cats for fun and will try to engage the resident Golden in play. He rides well in the car but, for now, needs to be lifted in as jumping in himself is still too scary. He has learned to jump out on his own. Due to his background, he will need a family with kids 10 or older. Younger kids can scare a dog from a commercial breeder.
Gus is a doll and with some more socialization, training, and love, he'll be a wonderful family member!
