Charlie 13-430

Profile

In addition to LOVE this dog has the following requirements:
Entered Foster Care Fence Kid Friendly Another Dog Cat Friendly
12/12/2013  Optional Older kids Prefers to be the only dog Not tested
This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

Charlie has been with us for a few days now and seems to be settling in. He was dirty, smelly, and matted when he arrived, so he went to visit the groomer today. He had a few issues with the groomer. It seems he does not like a bath or being groomed, and snarled at the groomer a few times. He looks and smells much better now, but had to be shaved down. He looks more like a Yellow Lab than a Golden, but his coat will grow back in time.

  • Charlie will not need a fenced yard. He is out on a leash or tie-out with us and does just fine. He walks well on a leash with a flat collar and does not try to run away while on the leash or tie-out.
  • Charlie should probably be an only dog. He is tolerating my Cockers, but has had a couple of issues with them (he does occasionally snarl at one of them when she gets near him) and also the dogs at the grooming salon.
  • Charlie does have resource guarding. I tried to pet him the other night while he was eating and he snarled and snapped at me. He eats in the kitchen with the other two dogs and has not had any real issues with that, unless the other two finish first and get right under him to pick up his scraps.
  • The surrendering owner had two children (4 and 7) and said Charlie was a mild fellow. He will be tested with children tomorrow as the grandkids will be here for Christmas.
  • According to the SO, Charlie has never been cat tested, and we do not have cats around us in order to test him, but my guess is he would not do well with cats.
  • Charlie knows many commands: sit, stay, lay down, shake. He is completely house broke, is not destructive, and has free roam when we are home and stays in the basement family room with the other two dogs when we are gone. He spends much of his day laying around and sleeping.

Charlie will have his vet visit on Friday and hopefully will be ready for his forever home after that. We will keep you posted on our progress.

This is Charlie after the groomer had to shave the mats out of him.
He is a bit embarrassed by his haircut here, but is getting used to it.

A few updated pictures of Charlie now that his coat is starting to grow back. He has adjusted to his new life very well and is the nicest fellow. He gets along great with the grandkids and is doing fine with the resident dogs. He loves going for car rides (especially to Caribou Coffee where they get treats!!) and going for walks. He is not a Velcro dog, but does love a good belly rub. He has been known on occasion to try and climb into my lap. He does not get up on the furniture and loves to lay on the cool kitchen floor. He only barks when someone comes to the house, but settles down quickly. He likes everyone he meets. He is not the most energetic guy, but will play fetch with a tennis ball on occasion. He has not been tested on cats and I am not sure if he would get along with them. I have no cats around to test him on. He seems to be losing some weight, but I have not had him weighed since his vet visit. He is just a big lovable guy looking for his forever home.
