Charlie (Charlemagne 14-183)

Profile

In addition to LOVE this dog has the following requirements:
Entered Foster Care Fence Kid Friendly Another Dog Cat Friendly
6/25/2014 Optional Yes! Optional No
This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

It is my pleasure to welcome our newest foster, Charlemagne! Here is what we know of Charlemagne: He was picked up as a stray by animal control with Magellan 14-184 in Waterloo, IA, about 3 weeks ago. He was not wearing a collar and was not chipped. His time was up due to a full shelter and his life became AMAZING because he is now a RAGOM dog!!! So, being he was a stray, no one knew his name. He does NOT answer to Charlemagne, so we call him "Charlie." (He will be known as Charlie from now on!) Unfortunitely, he does NOT answer to Charlie, either!!! His recall is poor, obviously (wish he could tell us his old name!), so we are working on that.

Charlie is a male Golden mix, estimated to be about 8 years old. He has the cutest freckles on his nose and white "socks." He's a big, strong boy weighing 70 pounds. He walks like a charm on the Gentle Leader. He LOVES his walks! He has been with us for about 4 days now. He is a TRUE Velcro dog!! He follows me from room to room and just LOVES his humans. He thinks he's a lap dog and if you are sitting on the floor, he will plop right down on your lap.

This is one sweet boy. He is still settling in with us, but he would be a great addition to any family. I have a 10-year-old and a 12-year-old and he'd do well with children of any age. He also gets along with our resident Golden, Ginger. We met cats at the vet and while he was curious, I think he'd be fine with them also.

Please let your placement advisor know if you are interested in meeting Charlie!

Charlie has been doing great! FM and FD were on vacation last week, so Charlie was lucky to go stay with one of his previous fosters. The report was that he was a perfect houseguest! He thought FM was having a pool party the other day, but to his surprise, it was actually for his bath! He did great with it. After his bath, he was prancing around the yard and kept standing at the car door, thinking he was going to get an air dry or checking himself out in the reflection! HA! FM's brother came over to visit and Charlie warmed right up to him, resting his head on his lap and enjoying the attention. FM came home from work the other day to find Charlie all curled up on the couch, hard to wake him up to tell him to get down when he’s looking so comfy, as you can see in the picture!

Hi, friends, it’s Charlie here! I thought I would quickly send you an update since my FM seems to be slacking a little bit. I have been busy doing what dogs do best, I suppose: eating, going for walks, playing with my toys, and, of course, leaning in for lots of pets. I met a couple of kids on my walk last week who couldn’t stop petting me and playing with my ears. I loved the attention so much I rolled over for belly rubs. I wish we could run into them on every walk! My FD has been mixing my walks up a bit with bike rides. Can you believe I ride a bike?! No, I’m just pulling your tail, I don’t actually ride the bike, but I do happily trot alongside. I usually follow the rules about staying off the furniture, but when FM and FD leave for work, I do like to treat myself with a nap or two on the couch. I love to be by FM and FD, but they tell me to go lay down, which I do listen. I don’t really get why it’s such a big deal, though. Can’t they just step over me? I don’t beg for people food, but I do let you know when it’s time for my meals. Speaking of meals, I hear FD putting food into my dish! Gotta go! Thanks for checking in on my page! Please contact your placement advisor if you would like to meet me. I promise you will fall in love with my good looks.

One more thing: RAGOM is such a fantastic organization that has helped dogs like me receive the care we need until we find a family, but this wouldn’t be possible without great people out there like you that help! RAGOM is hosting this fun day of events called Goldzilla! Goldzilla is Sunday, September 14th, at Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton. Visit the website at goldzilla.ragom.org to learn more!

Charlie has been with us for 2 weeks now and he is just a gem! It is fun to see more of his personality come out. The other day, he went digging in the toy bin to find a tug-of-war toy. He loved playing with it and tossing it along with his bones around the room. He likes to let you know his presence by nudging you with his nose, just in case you forgot about him. He will lean into you and give you lots of hugs along with resting his head on your lap. He’s just a lover! He does enjoy his walks and does well on the Gentle Leader. He will not counter surf, unless FM accidently leaves the room when the pig's ear treat is too close to the edge of the counter, then it’s fair game! We have been letting him have free roam of the house when FM and FD are at work and he has passed with flying colors! He still does not answer to his name, but he will respond to commands. One night, someone in the neighborhood was lighting fireworks and Charlie did not react to them at all. The only thing he doesn’t like about the vacuum is that it means that his bones have to be put away in the toy box. He gives FM the look of "Really, they don’t go there, FM!’

Hi, Friends! I am so excited to update you on how my life as a RAGOM dog is going. I moved to a new foster home last week as my fur friend, Ginger, was still too sad from losing her best buddy. But my new FM and FD are very happy to have me around. I went on a cool new adventure this weekend that involved fishing in a boat, camping in a tent, and naps by the bonfire. I am going to let my FM tell you all about me as I am having a hard time keeping my eyes open; all that fresh air has me doggone tired!

FM here: First of all, I want to say this boy is going to make some family very happy! He has settled in nicely with us. He has the cutest face with little freckles. His tail reminds FM of a fox tail; it’s so soft! Here are some things we know about him so far:

  • Charlie still does not know his name; this is a work in progress.
  • He is learning sit, off, and lay down.
  • He really enjoys his walks. We are using a Gentle Leader which makes the walks enjoyable for FM and FD as well.
  • He will toss a bone around the room for a couple of minutes, but then lay back down and take a nap.
  • He is a Velcro dog and loves to know where you are and what you are doing. Keeps your feet warm, which could come in handy during the cold winter months!
  • He is house trained.
  • Respects baby gates.
  • Will bark at people walking by, but settles down nicely.
  • Gets a little too curious with cats, so best not to share a home with one.
  • Does get along with other dogs, but would be great as an only dog as well.
  • He met FM's nephews, 8 and 9 years old, and did great. They loved giving him attention and were sad to see him go.
  • Charlie is slow to get up from a laying position by the end of the day. At his vet visit, the vet thought it could possibly be from an old injury or due to his age. We have not seen this limit his activities, as he still uses stairs, goes for walks, swims, jumps into vehicles without any issues!
  • One of his favorite things is car rides. He will hop right in your backseat! We took him fishing with us and he loved the boat rides as well. He sat in the boat with his nose pointed straight up, eyes closed, a big toothy smile, and ears flopping in the breeze. I would call that living the RAGOM life!

Charlie is such a great boy that deserves an awesome family that will give him lots of love and snuggles!
