Chaucer is approximately 2 years old. This sweet boy was rescued from a municipal shelter in Istanbul, Turkey. He was dangerously thin and severely malnourished. He was taken to a vet to be nursed back to health. Once in America, Chaucer received a clean bill of health. He now weights 60 pounds! He is neutered, micro chipped, and has all his vaccinations. When he arrived to America, Chaucer was very itchy. His skin was red and bumpy. He did not have fleas. I put him on a limited ingredient diet that has worked wonders! Blue Buffalo Basics Turkey and Potato recipe is his favorite.Initially Chaucer respected baby gates, but by the 3rd day home he learned he could jump right over those. I came home to find him taking a nap on my bed. Chaucer now has free roam during the work day. I have been coming home over the lunch hour to give him a potty break, but I believe he would be fine without one. Chaucer turns into a little Tigger at the mention of a walk. He gets so excited and absolutely loves spending time outdoors. Chaucer is reactive to other dogs out on walks. He always has his tail up while barking and seems to want to play. I will be working on socializing him over the next few weeks.Chaucer16199TDc3.jpgOverall, Chaucer is a pretty laid back pup. He does not resource guard food, treats, water or toys. Not afraid of storms, fireworks, or fire alarms. Chaucer loves to cuddle. He also loves car ride to Starbucks for a "puppuchino". He will make one family very lucky to have him!Chaucer16199TDc3.jpg           Chaucer16199TDc1.jpg

Chaucer has been adopted!

These past few months have been a lot of fun having Chaucer around. We had play dates with his girlfriends, Callie and Charlie, went on a road trip together to Wisconsin, and had lots of visits to Chuck and Dons for his favorite treats. Chaucer was also very excited to play in the snow for the first time.

From a homeless dog in the streets of Istanbul to his very own home in America, Chaucer has a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. Thank you RAGOM for making it all possible!

Over the weekend, Chaucer had a play date with another Golden that went fantastic! Chaucer barked at her initially, sniffed her, and then the two walked together for over 3 miles.

Chaucer has also been making great progress with barking at other dogs out on walks. He now ignores about half the dogs he sees. With the other half - I have him sit, I say "leave it" while gently putting my hand over his nose. He will wiggle his butt and whine a little while watching the other dog go by. Then he gets the treat. I think Chaucer just needs some etiquette training when it comes to meeting other dogs.
Other than that, he has an amazing demeanor. You can grab his ears, nose, tail, paws, give him hugs and kisses, flip him over - he just soaks it all up. Nothing seems to bother him. He does great with kids we meet out on walks. He sees it as a prime opportunity to get some belly rubs.
He has discovered the joy of sleeping with his belly up, a luxury he probably didn't have while fending for himself in Istanbul. He also loves his stuffed animal.
