Hello everyone! Chewbacca here introducing myself to RAGOMLand!  As you can see from my picture, I am one GOOD LOOKING boy!  I am a goldendoodle with a birthdate of July 6, 2012. I have beautiful dark red long flowing hair and the most gorgeous eyes.

I have been hanging out in my foster home since before Thanksgiving and am loving it.  I get daily walks, which I love, and snuggle time on the couch with Foster Mom. I am a velcro boy and love to be where ever she is.  I am house trained and whine to go outside.  My first night here I slept in a crate and was as quiet as a church mouse.  Since then, I have free roam of the livingroom during the day when FM is at work and also at bedtime and do fantastic.

I have two goldendoodle foster sisters in the house too. I have some fear reactivity which makes me lip growl at my foster sisters, so we have been staying physically separated by a babygate while FM works with me to understand that other dogs in the house are a good thing.  I am working hard to change my thought process about this.  But the good news is, I will be perfectly happy being an only dog in my forever home doted on by a loving family.  I prefer adults but kids 14+ years old will be great too.

In my previous home, I had free roam and did great.  I am restricted here when my foster sisters are inside. When they are out playing, I get free roam.  I do really good and don't mess with stuff that is not approved doggy toys and have not tried to countersurf like one of my foster sisters!

One of my passions in life is tennis balls.  I just love playing with tennis balls.  I smack it around with my foot in the hopes that it scoots across the floor so I can chase it.  Or I bury it in the bedding to dig it back out.  Yes, I amuse myself!  And I do all of this without barking. Now that's a bonus!

One of the reasons for my surrender is that I have a partially torn ACL that needs surgery.  I have been evaluated by the surgeon who confirmed I need a little repair job.  We are just waiting to see when I can get all fixed up.  We are all hoping that is soon so I can get on the road to recovery.  I am walking fine right now, but an not allowed to play fetch and run around so it doesn't totally tear or get sore.  FM walks me up to a mile at a controlled pace and I love to get out and see the sights and smells and it clears my head.

I do pull a bit and FM has me on a gentle leader which helps, but FM says I could use some more work in this area especially because I am big and strong.  I do get excited when I see squirrels and bunnies, so FM has to be diligent and keep an eye out for the critters and talk to me and treat me so I don't try and chase them.  But hey, isn't that par for any good self-respecting sporting dog?  LOL   I have been out walking with another retriever and FM kept a little distance between us in case I reacted. Happy to say I was focused on my walk so did just fine.

My perfect forever home is where I can be the only dog and my new family is committed to working with me on building confidence when around other dogs. I have already been to one class where I and another RAGOM girl where the stars of the class to teach other fosters how to work with us to help us.  FM says anyone can learn the skills -- it will just take time, patience and consistency to help me in that area.  As for the rest of me, I am a big marshmallow of a boy that loves to cuddle.  I am great in the house and play quietly by myself or with people and settle down super fast.  I am an excellent watch dog and help my foster sisters alert FM when the mail carrier is close by delivering stuff.  When you show me my leash, I am ready, willing and able!  I need walks daily so will be a GREAT walking partner to help my family maintain an active healthy lifestyle!  Plus, that will be a big part of my rehab for about 12 weeks post surgery to build my leg strength back up.  (FM has been through ACL repair twice and said it is pretty easy to get through.)

Well, that's about all so far.  If you want to meet me, let your placement advisor know.

March 25, 2017

It is with profound sadness that we share that Chewbacca "Chewy" crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Friday March 24, 2017.

Chewy was an exceptional boy, strong, gorgeous, and had a love for life and adventure. When he came into RAGOM, he was in need of ACL repair surgery. He also had some reactivity and fear issues that would arise on occasion and needed to be managed. He got the much needed surgery and that required a long rehab period. He started that rehab in his foster home and finished it a couple of weeks ago in his adoptive home. He was adopted in January.

Unfortunately, Chewy's fears got the better of him two weeks ago and a significant bite occurred. Chewy's new family decided to surrender him back to RAGOM. After reviewing all of the incident information, the RAGOM Behavior Services Team determined that the severity of the bite was such that Chewy could not be rehomed again. Our only responsible recourse was to help Chewy lovingly cross the Bridge surrounded by his foster mom, his favorite transporter, and his favorite medical staff that saw him through his surgery and recovery.

He enjoyed a double cheeseburger minus the pickles and ketchup (he said no to those). We sat with him and thanked him for coming into the RAGOM family. We held his paw, kissed his head and told him what a good boy he was. He crawled in my lap for a quick cuddle too. As he slipped over the Bridge, I am sure he took my tears with him.

The strong, gorgeous boy endured a lot in his short life of less than five years. We have no information on what occurred in his first three years of life that caused him to have the fear and reactivity that he had. Despite the patience and love he received in his surrendering home, foster care, and adoptive home, Chewy was not able to let go of that fear while he walked with us. Now, over the Rainbow Bridge, he has no more fear and no more pain. I would like to believe Chewy running joyously with many of the RAGOM dogs that have gone on before him, having a blast and chasing after tennis balls on four strong, tireless legs to his hearts delight, yet keeping one eye on the Bridge waiting for all the people that loved him.

Chewy's original surrendering family, his adoptive family, and many volunteers in RAGOM that had the good fortune to meet this boy and help him along the way during his time with us will remember a boy that loved car rides, fetching his tennis ball, going for walks and watching animals on TV. Many others that followed his story here on his page quickly fell in love with this boy and cheered him on from afar.

We are very grateful for all of the people that loved Chewy, supported his Foster Mom when needed, cheered him on and did everything possible to give him the life that he deserved. Special thanks to Dr. R for fixing his leg and to Misti Jo, CVT, for all of the wonderful care he received during his recovery, and for her unending compassion to help Chewy cross the Bridge with dignity, peace, and so much love. We also thank Dr. C and the staff of Inver Grove Heights Animal Hospital for their kindness during this process.

Run Free sweet boy. You were loved and will be remembered.

Foster Mom and your foster sisters.

Hello Chewy Fan!

I have lots to update you on since my last post before New Year's.  Since I had so much fun over Christmas at Rutager's hanging with my new BFF, I decided I wanted to spend New Year's with him too. So we had #OnlyBoysAllowed weekend part deux!  Yeah, I loved being the center of his world for a few days.  Then on New Year's afternoon, I got to go to MJ's to spend two days with her too to be the center of her world.  It's fun hanging out with people that love you!

After the holidays, it was time to go back to the doctor to get some pictures of my leg to see how it was healing.  Things are looking much better but I still have a ways to go before I am ready to start rehab exercises.  Hoping it is just a couple of more weeks of being a couch potato.

This week Misti fixed me up with a blue bandage with a heart on it.  I don't have the splint inside anymore so it allows be a little bending, but not much. Before the new bandage was put on, Misti did some range of motion exercises and gave me a good massage. Boy did that feel good!  I can't wait to be done with the bandages.  In two weeks I will have another set up pictures and am fully expecting good news from Dr. R.  Keep your paws crossed for me!

And the best news of all this week....drum roll please.... I have been ADOPTED!  Yep, you heard that right!  Starting Saturday, I have a new family to call my very own with a mom and dad to shower me will love and attention!  What a great way to start 2017!  I will be staying in the Twin Cites.  Here is my first family photo.

So with my adoption, this is my last post from my foster home.  I have so many people to thank for working so hard to find a family for me.

First, to my first mom, for loving me so much and knowing that I needed a new home to be a truly happy boy.  I know it broke your heart to give me up, but please know that you will always be in my heart. Thank you for trusting RAGOM to find me a new family that will love me as much as you did.  I will do my best to live each day to the fullest.

To the countless people at RAGOM that worked so hard to get me into RAGOM. those that visited me in boarding, those that let me have sleep overs at their houses; those that worked to find me a foster home, to the wonderful Dr. R for fixing my knee and those that worked to find me a new family. Smooches to you all in the RAGOM Village.

To the staff at Stone Mountain for taking wonderful care of me until the time I could move into a foster home.

To my foster sisters - sorry I kept barking at you -- but thank you for letting me take over your space during my surgery and recovery.

And finally, to all of you that donated money towards my medical care or to any of the wonderful RAGOM dogs that depend on your generosity.  I am humbled by your kindness.

May 2017 be a fantastic year for everyone!

All my best,

Chewy

Hi Chewy Fans,

Just reporting in with an update for you.  First off, thank you so much to Dave Gullickson, The Steffens Family and Irene S for all of the Winter Icons to help support me with my medical bills. That means so much to me to know that I have fans watching out for me.

I have been hanging out in foster care waiting for my leg to heal up.  I had a little mishaps on one of my therapy walks 2 weeks ago and fractured my bum leg.  So now I am all bandaged up again with a splint. This weeks' color is blue with stars. Looks pretty cool, huh?

Over Christmas, I got to spend three days with my new buddy Rutager.  I sure enjoyed the change of scenery and having a lot of one-on-one guy time with him.  I like my foster home just fine, but since I am dog reactive, I don't spend time with my foster sisters so FM has to split her time between us.  I prefer to have all of the attention. Can you blame me?  Ha ha.

Here is a picture of me at Rutager's house. See how happy I am hanging out on the super comfy bed he had for me?

When I got home, there was a new toy waiting for me for my Christmas present and lots of time with FM.

My days are a bit boring right now as I am on lots of restriction (aka TV watching and sleeping) as my leg heals.  It needs some more healing before I can resume therapy.  I will have new xrays taken of my leg next week to see how well I am healing.

Here is a picture of my titanium hardware that was put in for me during the Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA) knee surgery for my ruptured cranial cruciate ligament.

That square thing in the space where Dr. R cut is a cage that acts like a spacer.  As I heal, the new bone will fill in the gap and the new angle of the bone and the surrounding muscles will provide the support for my femur.  I will have many more weeks of rehab ahead of me and will follow the doctors orders so that I heal up as best as I can.

To help with the boredom, when it is sunny and warm, FM and I sit outside and soak up some sun.  She also takes me for car rides.  See how happy those make me? I just love car rides.

Well, that's it for now. I hope you all have a safe and Happy New Year!  I will try and stay awake for the clock to strike midnight, but I am not promising anything.

Thanks for reading.

Hi everyone. Chewy here reporting in.

First off, big thank you's are in order for my new friends that bought me holiday icons.  Thank you Owens family in honor of Schooner and Lori Brown in memory of Buddy. It was so nice to meet you on Saturday Lori!  Also, a big thank you from my friend sweet Mama Nicole and Marsha.

I had a great time at the Holiday Sale and Meet and Greet last weekend.  I helped foster mom make cookies and lots of Reindeer Crack to sell and make money at the sale.  My job was quality control.  Here I am approving the first batch of crack.

I was so happy the weather was nice out so I could be outside all day with my escort Sheila.  We even had the opportunity to take a nice stroll around the preserve.  A perfect day.

Here I am getting my picture with Santa. I told Santa my Christmas wish was to find the perfect family to adopt me.  Just hoping this comes true!

I was pretty wiped out after the sale and napped a bit that afternoon before regaining my energy to play ball with FM.  I rested up on Sunday for Monday was a big day for me.

After over 6 months of having a knee injury, the wonderful Dr. R performed TTA surgery on my right knee and got me all fixed up.  I did great through surgery and came home that evening.  The first night I was already touching my toe on the ground and by the second day was walking on my leg pretty well with the help of FM and a towel sling under my belly.  By Thursday night, I started chewing on the bandage as it was irritating me, so FM removed it.  To keep my from licking my incision, I am now wearing a comfy cone when I am not by FM's side.  It's really not too bad, but hoping my leg will stop itching a few days so I don't have to wear it.

I also want to say a big thank you to Uncle Chip. He comes over to have lunch with me and take me outside for a break while FM is at work.  I just love that guy and talk to him and lean in for lots of petting and big hugs.  Makes me feel so good.

That's about all of an update I have for now.  I will be working on my therapy for my leg and just resting and healing for a few of weeks while I slowly increase my physical activity.  I am already feeling quite well and want to run around but FM says that is a big no-no as I have to slowly increase my activity. She says before I know it and will be off restrictions - but for now, just be patient.  I can do this.

Thanks for reading.
