This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

I'm very pleased to introduce Barbie -- a lovely young Lab mix with a deep gold/red coat who has been a fun and lively addition to our household. Barbie has been well-loved and it shows in her manners (she sits when it's time to eat!) and her joy for life. She plays like crazy with our youngest dog; they run huge loops in the backyard and play tumble games that only they understand. Barbie is used to getting a lot of exercise and it has kept her lean and trim as she weighs in at 44 pounds. She is a tallish girl with a trim figure -- not an ounce of fat on this girl! Her surrendering owner was not able to take Barbie with her when she moved and made the difficult decision to let RAGOM find a home for their beloved Barbie, and that's just what we're going to do.

Barbie lived with two young children, other dogs, and a cat. She was understandably skittish when she first came into our household, but in one day had figured out the routine. Barbie is a healthy one-year-old girl, up-to-date on her shots, spayed, on heartworm preventative, and will be microchipped this coming week.

Barbie is obviously used to getting on the furniture in her previous house and in ours. She is quite the napper when she comes in from playing. She enjoys looking out the windows to see what might appear, but hasn't really done any barking. She is a bit of a counter-surfer, so we have quickly learned not to leave any temptations out for her; that is pretty easy to handle. She is an exuberant welcome committee when you come home and will jump up on her people, so we're working with the training she already has completed to help her learn to sit and wait to be petted. It's a work in progress at this point, but I'm confident she can master this.

Barbie has only destroyed one thing in our house, and that was the first day when she was a bit uncertain and anxious. Now, she seems comfortable and chews on toys along with the rest of the dogs when we leave. We have not kenneled Barbie, although her previous family did kennel Barbie when they knew they would be gone for longer periods of time.

Barbie loves to ride in the car, follows her people around room to room (who doesn't like that!), and enjoys playing with people and dogs alike. Because she is energetic, we'd like to see her placed with a family who has dog-smart children.

Updates

We had a great week -- the weather was great for playing in the yard, getting lots of exercise, and good cuddles on the couch at night. Barbie gets along so well with all of our resident dogs, both young and old, male and female. She is so easy to live with. She doesn't have any concerns about storms, doesn't protect her toys or her food, and in general just loves life. There was a bit of an ugly moment one time when we came home after a longer-than-usual time away -- all the dogs seemed to want to hide and it didn't take long for us to figure out that someone has destroyed a pillow in our absence. The pillow stuffing looked like it had snowed in the sun porch. At Barbie's original home, they kenneled her when they knew they would be gone for some time and we think we'll probably try that too. Although we can't be certain it was Barbie who destroyed the pillow, it seems probable. But really, the loss of a pillow is not the end of the world! She's young and she can learn. Here are some new pictures of this lovely girl.

We are absolutely loving this young girl -- she continues to charm us with her very cheerful personality and with her willingness to learn new things. She's eager to please. Here are the Barbie facts we have to share this week:

  • Barbie is very athletic -- when our older, slower dogs are in the way, we've seen her just leap over them with much athletic flair.
  • She loves to run and she can run *fast* -- she outruns all of our dogs and really enjoys the exercise.
  • She's growing her adult coat right now. Her coat is still a rich coppery-red color with dark black hair interspersed to give her a gorgeous look. Her fur is short, her feathers are really minimal.
  • She's easy to groom and seems to enjoy it. She has beautiful black toenails and black whiskers and expressive eyebrows.
  • She is fun, so much fun that she's won over our grumpy dog who really didn't want to share dad's attention with her. They now play rough-and-tumble games like they've been best friends for a long time.
  • She is a great fan of the bitey-face games that she plays with our youngest dog - they make ferocious sounds while they spin and run and flop on their backs and squirm around.
  • So far, we've figured out that she knows "sit," "down," and "shake." We're guessing she knows more commands and she's probably just waiting for us to figure them out.

As you can tell, Barbie is an energetic young girl who is really enjoying all the exercise we can get her. At the same time, she enjoys a good snooze and will cuddle up on the couch when playtime is over. If you think you have the right house for this joyful girl, please contact your Placement Advisor.

Barbie has had a great week -- she went to the vet again to get microchipped and she handled it with style. She doesn't even mind having her toenails trimmed which surprised and pleased us. She has a good time at the vet's once she figured it out. Her first time there, she did some submissive peeing, but really, other than that, she was great.

Barbie is quite the athlete - she runs and runs and is used to getting a lot of exercise. At her previous home, she went for runs with her owner and sometimes went rollerblading too. Here, she runs huge laps in the backyard with our youngest dog and can run farther and last longer than any of our dogs. She's happiest when she gets a lot of exercise. I'm going to post some pictures midweek that show her athletic side because as much as she enjoys a good snooze on the couch, she also enjoys a bit of an athletic lifestyle. She's lean and lithe.

She's also continuing to teach us to keep our counters clean -- she's not afraid of sniffing an abandoned plate or even a plate of warm cookies. We're working with her on this and it will probably be something her new family will need to watch for as well. She's fast and highly motivated!

Barbie is very sweet and loves to give her people ear kisses to make them giggle. She really enjoys sleeping on the bed, but after a few hours, gets off to find a dog bed or empty chair. She enjoys a car ride -- this week, she got to go to our favorite local dog store, Leash on Life, and although she was initially a bit timid, she figured out the people giving her treats were her friends and she really enjoyed the whole experience.

Barbie is friendly, energetic, and very sweet -- if she sounds like a good match for your household, please contact your placement advisor!
