Hi, everyone! Gracie here. I’ve been adopted! My new mom says I should write you all and let you know how I’m doing. I’m living in Wisconsin now and we have a big yard and fields on either side. I watch birds and crows and high-flying airplanes. The other night, I think I saw a deer and it was really big!
We went to the vet last week and I had to get three shots. I do not like shots and I cried a little, but hey, it was THREE shots! Now, on to the fun stuff--my new mom and I take three walks every day and on the last stretch back to the house, we race. I can run faster than my mom unless I find something interesting along the way, and then I stop immediately to sniff and chew it. My mom says that all the exercise is getting her into shape, but I just think it’s fun. I am so tired by the end of the day that I fall asleep on my back or in the corner of the couch or even on the floor with my favorite stuffed animal, my sock monkey.
So far, I have learned a bunch of new things like how to run up and down the stairs. At first I was scared, but pretty soon I was hopping up and down each step like a little frog. A few days later, I was able to run really fast up and down them. I am learning a lot of words like "sit" and "stay" and "wait" and "come" and "lie down" and "heel." I knew many of these words before I was adopted, but we are working on my responding to them all the time, rather than only when I see a treat. But hey, I really like treats, so why not make her give me one if I’m supposed to do a chore? It’s not as if I get paid an allowance. My mom’s signing us up for some classes so we can learn a bunch more stuff together. I am hoping for even better treats there, but I guess I’ll find out soon enough.
I have decided that I am very interested in music. My mom said I got very attentive to some sounds invented by someone named Brahms when I heard them on a TV political ad. I did something similar tonight when I heard some singing. It really made me wag my tail and run to my mom when she sang it, too. Maybe one day, I will learn to sing. I always bark once when a hear a doorbell, even if it’s on TV, so maybe that’s how one starts. I’ve discovered my reflection in my water bowl and the sliding doors and sometimes try to play with it, but it’s not very willing to play.
My mom and I just want to say thanks to RAGOM and to my foster mom and my foster sister, Maggie, for helping me to become such a great puppy. My mom says that I add so much to her life and we are both so happy.
By the way, don’t tell any of our neighbors, but my mom and I watch Vikings games because we are both from Minnesota.
Here’s some photos of me in my new life:
