Ginger is one lucky girl! She has found her way into Gretchen's heart. Ginger has two fur brothers, one a former RAGOM boy Bear. Ginger went to her new home last weekend and is adjusting better than I had expected. She didn't eat the cat! Hope to see her and Gretchen at Goldzilla this fall.

It seems we have solved the puzzle of the wondering Gin-gin. Since reinforcing the fence, she has not been out exploring--at least not on her own! She loves to go for walks and does well on a flat collar. Often dogs will go around in circles when they are first learning the leash. Ginger just gets in the zone with my resident Skye and walks right along. She doesn't startle at the neighborhood noises and traffic anymore but we do live on a quiet road. When we get close to the busy highway, she takes it all in stride and follows along.
Ginger is quite the mole hunter and zooms from hole to hole to see if anything new has come up. I quit filling in the holes that she and my resident Scout have dug in their searches and they seem satisfied not to start any new ones. Ginger also likes to fetch the tennis ball and so she gets quite a bit of exercise. She is looking so slim and trim now compared to when she first came into RAGOM's care. She has a beautiful dark red coat and her feathering is soft and growing.
But mom, there's a bunny out there!

First of all, Ginger and I would like to thank Tim G along with Shiva and Honey Bee for sponsoring her! Ginger gives four paws up to such wonderful people--and we assume there is a doggie or two in the sponsorship too :) RAGOM could not rescue as many dogs as we do without the kind of generosity you have shown! If Ginger ever gets to meet you, she will definitely give puppy kisses! And if you throw her ball, she will follow you anywhere. Thanks Tim!
Ginger had a week at the vacation hotspot in Lesuer! Thank you Ann! She was a little shy there at first but gradually, within a day or two, she came out of her shell. Since returning home, she has made great strides in her comfort level. She no longer cowers and has totally settled in to the routine here. She eats without running away. There has been no hesitation at the doorway and she evens comes in without having to follow my dogs. Ginger still looks to them to see what to do next but her confidence has grown a ton!
I wish I had a video camera to show you her little happy dance! She dances when we get up in the morning, when we come home from work and when she gets to go outside. She is a happy girl! If you can picture a new lamp hopping off the ground with all fours, you will know her little dance. She does not jump on people--just hops in the air. It is so dang CUTE! Ginger is also very athletic. She chases her ball and walks very nicely on a leash. She loves being outside!
I finally got a decent picture of her just hanging out. She is not a fan of the camera so she doesn't have her smile going but believe me she smiles!

Ginger has recovered from her surgery and is slowly coming out of her shell. She is such a happy girl and really prances around when she is happy. She is happiest right when we get up in the morning and then when I get home from work. She races outside to grab a ball to play with--or anything that she can carry in her mouth. She will fetch the ball but is nervous to drop it again for fear my resident boy Skye will pick it up. Actually, he had it yesterday and when she came over, he put it on the ground and used his nose to nudge it right to her. Was that intentional?? It sure looked like it to me!
Ginger is still having some trouble coming through the door back into the house. Sometimes, she will follow the other dogs in if everyone is excited. But most often she will lag behind and eventually I will go out to get her. I have to kneel down and let her come to me for pets, then out a leash on her and walk her in. She still cowers when I make a sudden move or loud noise. She is making progress though. She is accustomed to my dog walker now. andrew is in love with her and wants to adopt her. Alas, he is still in college for another year.
If you have another dog, a physical fence and no kids under 10 in your home, please consider Miss Gin-gin.

I'd like to introduce Ginger. She has been pretty sick and narrowly escaped pyometra which is a dangerous uterine infection. Thank goodness her vet caught it early. She was able to get into surgery right away. She had a very high fever and was dehydrated. She is home now and slowly recovering. She won't be having any more puppies as she is spayed now.
Ginger is a 4 year old girl who was surrendered by a breeder. Ginger is very sweet but very scared. So many new things in such a short time! Going through doors is scary. Sudden moves and many normal household noises are scary. She uses her crate as her safe place but does come out to spend time hanging with the rest of us. At night, she sleeps on the floor by the bed, gated in the bedroom with the rest of us. So far she is not interested in eating anything except dry dog treats. She has about 10 pounds to lose but this is not the way to do it. I will keep experimenting with different foods.
I have kept her on a trailing leash when we go outside. I have a large fenced yard so I need to be able to catch her if she gets scared. She also has given the gate some longing looks the first days she was here. I think it won't take long for her to be trusted. She does come up to me and isn't running away when I approach now. She follows my other dogs and takes their cues. So far she isn't interested in playing with them but she is interested in tennis balls! It is so fun to see her pounce on one. Since she just had a big surgery, we can't do that for a bit though.
Since she has spent her whole life living with other dogs and takes her cues about what is safe from them, Ginger will need another medium to large sized dog in her forever home. She will need a fence so that she can't run away if she gets scared. She will also need a home with older children or no children as kids under 10 scare her.
Please stay tuned for more stories and better pictures as Ginger comes out of her shell!
