Curly is a 2-3 year old 55 pound male golden/lab mixed breed. He was rescued from a shelter who had picked him up as a stray. Curly is up to date on all shots and has been neutered.

Curly is a very loving, affectionate boy who wants to go wherever you go. He is very social and enjoys meeting new people and dogs. He has gotten along very well with everyone he has met, both humans and other dogs. He is excited at first but calms down quickly. He is really affectionate and just wants to be someone's lap dog. He has plenty of energy if you want to play.

Curly is crate trained. He goes into his crate without hesitation but it is evident by his sad face that he would prefer not to. He sleeps through the night. He knows the commands "sit" and "shake" and we are working "stay". He enjoys car rides. He loves to go on walks but has obviously not had much leash training. We have been working with him on this and each time we go out he gets a little better. Curly is currently tethered when outside but would love a fenced yard. He will occasionally bark when someone walks by but once he is told that it's "okay", he stops. He is treat-motivated and catches on very fast.

He would love to have a forever home with someone who will spend time with him and will let him snuggle up next to them.

Curly/Harley continues to thrive while waiting for his forever family. He has had lots of positive socialization with my young grandchildren in the last couple of weeks as well as lots of different visiting pups. Up to 5 dogs eating together in the kitchen, everyone sitting politely for the bowls to be set down, and no guarding behavior's of any kind. Harley was very respectful of each dog's bowl and never disturbed them while they were eating.

Harley automatically sits for meals and treats and also knows lie down, stay, shake, quiet or no bark and sit. He is also excellent about sharing his toys. Still does the zoomies, loves the outdoors but also a good napper indoors. He continues to be a champion cuddler. Rides well in the car except he doesn't agree that it's not safe to ride shotgun.....but he's good-natured about that.

He also has had a very exciting experience having lots of pictures taken by a professional photographer in a beautiful woodland setting. The beautiful results are in this posting and a big thank you to Jane V. for donating her time and talents to RAGOM that day.

Curley/ Harley has had his vet visit and weighed in at a handsome and healthy 66 pounds.....a good weight for him to maintain, accoding to the vet. The vet also remarked upon Harley's pearly white teeth and his shiny variegated gold/black coat. Harley has no health issues, was very friendly with the vet and techs, and sweetly allowed himself to be poked and prodded and even politely allowed his nails to be trimmed. He sheds but not nearly as much as a Golden and has no ear problems.

He has been on free roam 24 hours a day since he arrived here and there have been no problems. He is very well- behaved indoors, no chewing or accidents, and has done very well left home alone with my 6 year old resident dog, up to 2-3 hrs so far. I think as long as he has the reassurance of another dog he will continue to do well and have no separation anxiety. He sleeps on the family bed at night, very soundly and without snoring. He loves to snuggle before falling asleep and then again in the morning.

He has the sunny, happy personality and disposition of a Golden.....the packaging is just a bit different. He is friendly with everyone, male or female, human or canine. He is so full of energy and loves, loves to play!! My resident pup doesn't have the play gene, so we have play dates for Harley as often as possible. I have included two pictures of Harley playing with his new best friend, Jade.

Harley has become very vigilant regarding bunny invasions but so far they have eluded them. He watches TV very alertly whenever an animal appears and almost jumped at the set when a cat appeared. So.......I am still not sure about cats but since I suspect there are plenty of cats who would quickly straighten him out if he tried to chase them, a forever home with cats might be possible. He loves being outdoors and playing with his toys and doing his zoomies at supersonic speed.

If you're looking for a Golden to join your family please consider adopting Harley. He is a perfect family pup and so ready to embark upon his forever life. He will reward you with energy, enthusiasm, complete love and devotion. If you have any questions you want to ask me, please contact your placement advisor.

Please welcome sweet, handsome Curly back to RAGOM. Curly was originally picked up as a stray in Iowa and put in a shelter there on 6/18/16. There they named him Curly and had him neutered and gave him his vaccinations and preventatives. Thankfully they contacted RAGOM and he was released to our care on 7/11/16. His first foster family felt Harley was a much more fitting name and Harley it has been ever since! I will be referring to him as Harley in these updates but RAGOM must still keep him listed as Curly for continuity. Harley is a young, energetic black/gold retriever mix, very much a puppy at heart, and would love to have another dog to wrestle with outdoors. His age is approximated at two years old. He would make someone an excellent walking or jogging partner. He loves to run zoomies at high speed around my fenced-in yard with his tail held high and a big smile on his face.

Indoors he is a sweetheart and will keep you in his line of sight at all times. He is a champion cuddler, whether on the floor, the sofa or in your bed. There have been no signs of aggressiveness with my resident dog, even when she refuses to play. There has been no toy or food guarding and they sit nicely next to each other for treats.

He was adopted to a wonderful person on 8/12/16 but was sadly returned to RAGOM on 9/01/16. The adoption did not work out because Harley has mild separation anxiety and is kennel aversive. His first foster family could use a crate for short periods of time since one member worked from home, but crating for even a short time made Harley sad. With his adoptive family he had to be crated 8+ hours per day. The one time he was out of the crate and his owner left for a short period Harley scratched the door. So as the days passed, Harley became more and more despondent, tried to break out of the crate and then lost interest in eating. His owner loves Harley and made the difficult decision to return Harley to RAGOM with the request we find him a family where someone is home most of the day and where Harley can have free roam, or at the most a baby gate, if needed. He has free roam here and baby gates are available if needed. So far I have not left him alone because he only arrived a few days ago but we wanted to get this update online before Goldzilla......so I will report more on his separation anxiety,or lack there of, in a week or so. Hopefully having a companion dog here will help with his anxiety.

Harley will be getting another veterinarian check next week which is mandatory whenever there is a readmission. His last checkup was in July and he is in excellent health per the vet report.

Harley has no storm anxieties. Last night we had large storms with explosive thunder and he slept through it all, totally relaxed, while my RD was panting and shaking more than any other storm this summer.

Please take a close look at this very special pup......because he will make a wonderful addition to some lucky family. His previous foster observed Harley playing nicely with 2 and 4 year old family members, which is excellent news, but because of Harley's size (57lbs.) and puppy moves at times, I am recommended children 8 and up for right now.
