It is with extremely heavy hearts that we want to inform you of Honey’s passing this past week. We are still in shock, and trying to process all that the past few weeks has entailed.

We noticed a lump near Honey’s hips about a month ago, and brought her to the vet to get it checked out. His belief was that it was just fatty tissue, and nothing to worry about. A couple weeks passed, she was doing well and enjoyed going swimming in the lake but increasingly seemed to be more tired after walks.

Over the course of one weekend the tumor grew significantly.  We brought her back in immediately, and the vet was going to do a biopsy, but after doing a blood test, it was determined that her platelets were too low and her white blood cell count was too high to do the biopsy. She was put on antibiotics, with the intent of doing the biopsy after the 14 day antibiotics were complete.

She was up and down throughout that time, but the night before she was to go back in she had drastically gone downhill, and we had to carry her into the vet in the morning. After doing an x-ray, it was deemed that the tumor had grown extremely quickly and was impeding her internal organs. The vet said there really was no other choice than to give her the peace she deserves.

We are absolutely heartbroken, but wanted to make sure you were kept informed. Honey really was as sweet as they come, and while we feel the pain of her absence now, we feel very fortunate that she was a part of our lives.  Thanks to all at RAGOM who made our time with Honey possible.  We will miss her deeply.

Honey was adopted by Jan and Bruce L. She will enjoy her days on a lake. She is so lucky that one of her new parents is retired! I'm thrilled for Honey and her new life. We will sure miss her, though. She is a very special dog!

Welcome to RAGOM Honey (or Honey Bee as we affectionately call her)! What we know about Honey:

  • From a loving family, and was only surrendered due to a human allergy
  • Up to date on vaccines
  • GREAT with kids of all ages, cats, and other dogs
  • Knows all basic commands plus more!
  • Purebred
  • Age 6 (Bday is Sept 26, 2010)
  • Female
  • Housebroken
  • Free roam in home
  • Walks nicely on leash
  • Blood work and stool sample came back negative. (She does have a lump on her tail - vet is not 'worried' about it. Looking into whether or not it will be removed)

What we are learning about Honey in foster care: We have fostered quite a few dogs and Honey Bee is the epitome of the Golden Retriever breed. She LOVES people! She has perfected the "Golden lean" and will nestle her head into you for a wonderful hug. Honey gets along great with her current fur-siblings, Ginger (6) and Mick (almost 12!), but will do well as an only dog. (As long as she gets plenty of human love!)

She has been sleeping with my (15) year old daughter. (Have I mentioned she loves to snuggle?)

What Honey needs in her forever family is quite simple: Someone who loves hugs, and can give her plenty of attention.
