Jake went to Rainbow Bridge on July 6, 2013. He would have been 14 in October, outliving any of our other goldens by a couple of years. He had a good, long life. He lost the use of his back legs, but never his sense of humor!
He was active right until the end. His back left leg started giving him grief over the last year, or so, but he learned to get around, even a funny little jog, when he was playing with other dogs. He needed some help with stairs and steep hills, but didn't let it bother him. He lived for his walks, maybe as much because he knew he'd get a treat when he got back to the house, as seeing his friends (in our winter-home neighborhood) or grazing on the tasty grass here in the woods in northern Minnesota. He was still good for a mile, or 2, a day, happy to be out with his pals. He lived for food and treats, too. He loved fruits and vegetables. Anything that he could eat, he did eat. One of his last snacks was a package of cherry tomatoes that were supposed to be for shish-ka-bobs :). His last night, he couldn't really stand on his own, but still scammed us for treats by barking to go out and with our help out the door, would just go out and make a circle to come back in, so he could have his treat. He did that a half a dozen times. He happily got in the car for his last ride, doing his best to get in (he's needed help with that for a while, too, but gave it his best to help). There is a big empty spot in our home, and lives, where Jake was. We know that will get better, as time goes on, but will always be there. He's got a bunch of friends waiting for him, at Rainbow Bridge, so we know he's OK. We will miss him, dearly. His loving parents, Scott + Elayne
