Jake 07-019

Profile

2/13/07: We received Jake about ten days ago. He is a big, handsome, red boy. Jake is six years old, but he does act younger than his age sometimes. He is about 80 pounds of pure affection. Our family is thoroughly enjoying Jake. He has been neutered and seems to be doing well. He sometimes walks gingerly on his left foot and has a hard time while going up the stairs. The vet checked him out, and he has arthritis. He is currently on medication and will have to be on joint supplements throughout for his arthritis. He can be sensitive around his left ear due to persistent ear infections. The vet administered some medication, but we are not yet giving it to him because he is not comfortable with us doing it. He loves his arthritis medication, though. Per the vet's recommendation, he will be assessed by a RAGOM behaviorist due to a little growliness towards the vet tech when she came in the room with the micro chip scanner (scary looking instrument!) and when we get too near his bone (we've removed that for now). He is very good with my kids. He is very well mannered and understands sit, stay, and he does not sit on our furniture. His least favorite thing is going into the kennel, and he tends to go in it only when he feels like it. We are working on that, though.

Jake is very loving and enjoys the outdoors. He does bark at other dogs, but he does not bark inside the house. Everytime I start the car he runs to the garage waiting to get in the car. He does very well in the car and gets excited and happy like a puppy. When my kids get back home from school, he gets very excited and starts dancing around. He does chase our cat, but we don't know if he means any harm. He is a good sleeper and does not disturb us at night.

What Jake Enjoys:

~Cuddling up (even if that means 80 pounds of him all over my kids!)

~Riding in the car

~Playing fetch

~Going on walks and eating mouthfuls of snow!

~Getting groomed from his head to his tail

~Getting treats!

So far, our experience with Jake has been a positive one! Everyone who has met him loves him! We couldn't have asked for an easier and nicer dog, and you would be lucky to have him in your family! We will keep you updated on this little lover.

It is with very heavy hearts that we send this note to let you know that Jake passed on April 20, 2015, at an estimated age of 14 years. It still hurts so much.

Jake was a treasure and wonderful addition to our family and home. We all miss him terribly. Attached is a recent picture of Jake and our youngest grandson riding in the pontoon. Jake so loved to travel and ride in just about anything that would hold him.

Jake had a great life here and gave us so much in return.

Thank you for sharing him with us.

From Jake's forever family...

We adopted Jake in March of 2007 at approximately 6 years of age. He is an excellent well behaved companion. He has earned full run of the house even while we are gone. He has never touched anything of ours. However, when we get home, he often grabs one of his toys and tears it apart.

He had a few skeletons in his closet which seemed to have disappeared. His favorite activity (besides eating) is riding. Riding in a car, riding on the pontoon, riding in the cart--he just seems to know when we are going out for a ride and he is the first one there.

We live on a lake and Jake was terrified of the water. It took our daughter and her dog to coax him into the water. He will now go in the water but is still cautious and his feet need to touch bottom. Jake does a great job chasing the geese off the beach.

His vet visits were always a little traumatic. We have now found a vet where he is comfortable and does not need a muzzle. Jake weighed in at 97 lbs. He will trim down some this winter when we go to Arizona and he visits the dog park every day.

We could not have found a better match for our family.

Thank you,
Tom and Pat T.

Jake was neutered fairly recently and became sick. The vet said it was because of the shock to his system. He was very lethargic and had a lot of digestion problems. He spent a week at the vet, and he is back home and all better! He hasn't had any problems since then.

Jake is a wonderful family dog. He is very loving, and enjoys being around kids. He does not enjoy my cat! He gives her a good run when she comes out of hiding and when no one is around! He barks at some dogs while on a walk or in our yard, but he likes to sniff them and play a little. He thoroughly enjoys romping around in the snow and eating mouthfuls of it. He transforms into a puppy when riding in the car. He is very obedient and well-behaved in the car. He still isn't so great on his walks. He loves them, but he gets so engrossed in all of the smells and sights that he pulls a lot. We have figured out how to easily trick him into wearing a Gentle Leader, and it works very well. Jake is very obedient. He knows his basic commands of sit, down, come, and he is okay at stay. My kids and I love this mutt!
