I would like to introduce Janette (I call her Jenna), one of 11 dogs confiscated from a hoarder a couple of months ago. She was very malnourished and underweight, coming in at just 28 lbs. She has since gained 20 pounds and looks so much better. She is quite attractive and very very sweet!

When she first came to my house she was incredibly timid. She would hide in corners behind furniture and I could not get her to budge even using treats. I was actually carrying her outdoors for her to do her business. She soon discovered that under the bed was the best place to hide and although I hated to do it, a couple of times a day I would have to drag her out to take her outside. Despite all this she has not once voided indoors!

She is doing so much better now. Although she is still very timid she spends time out and about and now comes running when I open the door to the backyard. She has started to interact more with my other foster dog and it is fun to see her starting to play. She actually has even tried to play with my cats but they will have none of that. She does pay very close attention to their signals to be left alone and has never chased them or attempted to harm them in any way. She also comes to me for attention pets and she loves being petted.

She is easily startled by any noises and by quick movements so I think she would do best in a quiet home with not a lot of activity. Walks are a bit challenging as she darts about from side to side and will stop suddenly, occasionally right in front of me. She is still terrified of other people and strains to run and hide when we meet them on our walks.

I also feel she would do best in a fenced yard so she could do some running. She is quite fast and agile and loves to do quick jaunts across the yard.

Jenna still shows some anxiety around new exposures. However, she recently spent three weeks with a sitter who said she was surprised at how fast Jenna adjusted to her new surroundings.

She was quite anxious when she arrived here but very quickly was back into her routine with her tail wagging. ☺Janette16052e1.jpg

Jenna is one sweetheart of a dog if I've ever met one! She is on a 3 week vacation with us, while her foster mom is on a vacation of her own! I cannot begin to tell you how heartwarming and inspiring it is to see her growth in this first week with us. It is very common for these extremely timid dogs to revert back to old, skittish behaviors when they're somewhere new. However, watching her overcome her fears and celebrating all the little milestones will be the most rewarding thing one could ever do. She is progressing extremely quickly, and she is going to be a great addition to some lucky family!

Within this first week, some of her celebrated milestones were: drinking from the water dish, eating her food right away, pooping when I was outside with her (yes, THAT'S a big deal!), going in the fenced backyard without a leash, and now she's coming downstairs to sleep next to my bed at night.

She is a young dog and boy can you tell when she's zooming around the yard! Especially when she's bounding full speed ahead at you with those floppy ears and dopey puppy face!

She is adjusting well and doesn't seem scared by the noise of regular household activities or my 8 month old. She was more timid upon first seeing my 5 year old, but she's warming up now! Jenna would really benefit from having a young (er), confident, playful furbutt brother or sister. Resident dogs teach these timid dogs more than any human EVER could.

If you're looking for a loyal dog, Jenna's your girl. Will it take patience? Yes. Will it take perseverance? Yes. Will it be worth it? A million times YES! Right next to raising children, seeing the transformation of this malnourished, frightened dog, will undoubtedly be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.
