Jax 14-046

Profile

In addition to LOVE this dog has the following requirements:
Entered Foster Care Fence Kid Friendly Another Dog Cat Friendly
2/22/2014  Physical only  Not tested Optional  No
This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

Jax is a handsome young purebred dark red Golden Retriever. We assume he is about a year old and weighs a solid 75-80 lbs. He has not been to the vet yet so that is just our guess. Not much is known about Jax's early life. He was a frequent wanderer in a neighborhood in Wisconsin when some good Samaritans took Jax into their home. The couple had him for about a month and were ready to keep Jax and give him a great life. Then Jax soon learned how to jump their 4 foot fence. Since the snow is so deep he could jump on the sand box and basically walk over the fence. Being an older retired couple they decided that young Jax would be better suited in a different home. Enter RAGOM!

Jax is not neutered yet, but will be later this week. Hopefully that helps decrease his urge to want to jump fences and wonder. He LOVES people and is pretty indifferent to other dogs. He is very polite to my resident Lab and Mini Dachshund. The couple that took Jax in did have a cat but the cat is very shy and hides from any new dog that comes into the house. They said Jax never seemed to try find the cat. I hope to have him meet a couple dog-savvy cats in the next couple days. We have no kids in our home but I really think Jax would do great with kids as he has a very sweet calm disposition. So far Jax has NOT shown too much interest in toys, treats, or raw hides. That could change once he becomes more comfortable in his surroundings.

Here are some of the good things I have seen in Jax:

  • No counter surfing
  • No destructive chewing
  • No garbage diving
  • Does not jump up
  • Healthy (clean ears, clear eyes, very nice coat, etc..)
  • Sleeps through the night on a dog bed

Now, the things Jax needs some help with:

  • Jumps on you when you are on the couch
  • Jumps and paws at door handles
  • Pulls hard on the leash (hopefully a Gentle Leader will help)
  • Rushes out of car doors and house doors
  • Not to fond of the crate
  • No formal training (only knows sit...sometimes)

Jax needs to go to a home with a physical fence and the family needs to routinely check and make sure there are no week spots in the fence or areas he could possibly escape. His forever family also needs to be committed to providing plenty of exercise and getting Jax the training he needs. He is a smart, sweet, and cuddly boy that will be a great addition to someones family! Please contact your placement advisor if you think Jax would be a good fit!

March 5, 2014

FM had to go out of town so I am being a house guest with another foster family in Brooklyn Park. Boy, was I in for a surprise … their resident dog is as big as a pony! I was kind of shy at first, but by the next day we were playing like old pals.

From time to time we would even take a break

March 8, 2014

I was told all week that a nice family is driving over 4 hours to come meet me. Guess what—today is the day! So I am waiting very patiently and being a VERY good boy. The time is going by so slowly …………..

Do I hear a doorbell? Could this be who I was waiting for?????

Oh my goodness, what a wonderful family that came to visit. I had sooo much fun meeting and hopefully impressing them with my waggy tail, kisses, playfulness and overall GReat personality! I want this family to be mine, please say yes. Brooklyn Park FD told me that I did a very good job, but, I have to wait until tomorrow to know the K Family’s answer. It is the rules of RAGOM that a family sleep on it to make sure that I am the right one for them and to give Brooklyn Park FM and FD time to think about if the family will be a good fit for me. It’s gonna be a long night.

March 9, 2014 -- ADOPTED

7:30am

Do I hear the phone ringing? Could it be the family I want so much to be my very own? Yes, they said YES, WE WANT JAX TO BE PART OF OUR FAMILY.

I am so happy – I have found my forever family

I am now officially part of the K family. I have a Mom and Dad, a cute little boy that I can call my own, a beautiful baby sister and GReat fur-sister named Comet. My journey in life has now taken a turn and I am now walking, with my forever family, on a golden path!

9:30am

They are here! Hurry up and sign the paper work, I want to go home with you. Yeah, my wait is over and here is my new family. My baby sister and Comet are already in the car.

Evening

I am getting settled in at my new home. My Mom sent these pictures

Thank you FM for taking me in, caring and loving me. I will miss you! Thank you RAGOM and all the volunteers for what you do, from intake to transport to foster and rehome Goldens and Golden Mixes just like me. Your dedication, passion and love are amazing. But most of all, thank you K family for making me a part of your lives!

Jax has had a busy week! He went to the vet and is now up to date on all vaccines. He does have a small lump on the bottom of one of his ears, the vet said it was probably a previous injury and has now turned into scar tissue. He weighed only 63 lbs...I was shocked and obviously a little off in my guesstimating! He seems to be a little under weight and a few more pounds would do him good. At the end of the visit the vet assumed Jax was 1-3 years old. Overall, he was very pleased with how healthy Jax is. The next step is being neutered, and that is set up to take place this Friday.

Jax also got a bath! We went to a Do-It-Yourself bath at the grooming salon. He was such a gentleman. He let me trim his nails (just a little wiggly). Stood still in the tub, and on the table to be blow dried. The loud dryer didn't seems to scare him at all. Only thing is he wouldn't jump on the table or into the tub, which isn't a big deal...I just had to lift the big baby.

We discovered Jax does NOT like cats and will not be able to go to home with cats. He is just too interested in barking and pulling hard towards them. He will be introduced to young kids later this week. I forgot to mention in his original post that he is potty trained. He marked a couple times the first hour he was in our house, but hasn't since. I attribute that to lots of change in one day and being in a new place. Again, marking is something that is likely to go away after his neuter surgery.

Lastly, Jax LOVES tennis balls and cheese! I was so happy to see him pushing the tennis ball around and then pouncing on it. :)
