We adopted puppy mill mamma rescue Jessie this past May, and she has done so well despite her difficult past. She is looking forward to her 4th birthday this month.
Our other two current RAGOM rescues, 13 y/o Skipper and 3 y/o Boika love having a new adoptive sister in the house, and they all get along great. Here are the changes from day one until today:
- Scared to get in car - Jumps excitedly into car
- Had to be carried up and down stairs - Races Boika up and down the stairs
- Worried about eating - Eats her meals as fast at the other dogs
- Scared to go out the door to the back yard - Usually is the first out the door in hopes of catching a critter
- Would only "do business" in back yard - Goes during walks on leash
- Too shy to take a treat from anyone's hand - Takes treats from anyone
- Tail usually tucked under - Tail often up high and wagging
- Hesitant walking around Lake Harriet and worried about people coming up from behind - Confident on walks and stopping often to "smell the roses"
The one thing she has loved since her first visit is going to the dog park. She loves sniffing butts and running with the other dogs. So also goes up to strangers for petting.
She is doing so well, we are planning to test her to become a therapy dog later this month.
Thank you RAGOM for rescuing her and doing such a great job starting her on the transition to a normal dog life!

Jessie went home today with her perfect forever family. She will have a wonderful mom for Mother's Day and a great new dad, along with a young RAGOM brother to play with and a older RAGOM boy to keep watch over them. Thank you, RAGOM, for rescuing Miss Jessie and thanks to the V family for giving her a Golden life!

Jessie has been such a wonderful girl! She loves everyone she has met and is such an easy dog to have around. She does love her walks and all the new smells.
Not much new to report on Jessie, although yesterday her foster brother Denver went to his new family and she does not have her playmate and misses that. My two senior resident dogs do not play for long. Jessie goes on longer walks with me and that helps her with her socialization, as she is very social and wants to meet kids, people and dogs, of course.

What a wonderful girl Jessie is becoming. Jessie has the gentle sweet spirit of an Angel, that is the only way to describe her. She does not meet people with exuberance but with a calm slow steady walking up to people for a meet and greet tail wagging all the way. .
Jessie loves her walks. Because of her background she can startle at new things on a walk, ( mostly loud unexpected noises or a runner coming up behind her) I have her tethered to me with a leash around my waist so if she does get frightened I don't have to be concerned that the leash could come out of my hand. She walks like a dream on a flat collar either behind you or by your side. When I walk her with two other dogs it is easy to forget she is there until she sneaks her head under your hand for a pet.
Jessie sometimes reminds me of a cartoon character because she has the cutest ways of expressing her joy for life in her body contortions.
I think Jessie would even make a wonderful therapy dog because of her calm nature.
Every once in a while you foster a dog that captures your heart and you don't think you could ever part with them, Jessie is that dog for me. I have wrestled with keeping her, I know this is a good home but there is one thing I cannot provide for her and that is another young dog to play with. She lives with two senior dogs and she respects their space and everyday does the best dance and play bows to get them going but after two minutes of play they are done. Jessie has a foster brother who is eight months old and they play, wrestle and chase for hours but he will be going to his new home soon and she will be without a playmate.
A young playful confident dog is what is required for her in her forever home, no compromises on this.

I am so proud of Jessie! She is such a sweet dog and is learning all things are not so scary. She has two resident dogs who give her confidence when she is feeling anxious. When you foster a dog from a large breeding facility (over 100 dogs) you understand how important it is to have a least one confident medium or large dog to observe how they handle situations without being anxious and that in turn gives the other dogs confidence that nothing bad will happen.
When Jessie first came she could not figure out how to get down even one step. She would get her front feet down but her back feet just did not follow.
Trying to do four steps was quite comical but now she races up the stairs. There are so many things that we take for granted from our own dogs who were raised in a loving home that are totally strange to these breeder dogs. Tea kettle going off, TV, all the things most dogs are exposed to as puppies all have to be experienced at a later age.
This is Jessie's favorite way to relax - she is so cute! She is keeping her paws crossed that she will be able to be up for adoption very soon!

Jessie has been in our home for a few weeks now and has started to settle in. She loves her crate to run into when she becomes anxious and peeks out when she feels brave. She already knows her name and will come right up to you when you are taking her for a walk. When she first came to our house, car rides would frighten her and she had to be picked up. But now she will jump right into her crate because she knows a car ride means a walk by Lake Superior.
Jessie is marked as temporarily Unavailable as she needs more time in her foster home to adjust to her new life. Everyday noises frighten her; she is on high alert to the sound of the furnace or refrigerator turning on, etc. Over time she will accept these things as normal. One day she is ever so brave and then the next she becomes anxious. It is a process, but she is doing well and will soon be confident enough to be adopted!
