.John was rescued into the RAGOM family from a breeder auction in MO along with 17 other dogs on 3/4/2017.  He is a beautiful male PB Dark Golden Retriever (almost red) and his birthdate is 6/18/2016.  John's name is in honor of one of our very special supporters whose generous giving to RAGOM makes rescues like John's possible.Coming into RAGOM in the middle of the night on 3/4/2017, John and his friends were very tired from their exhausting trip but knew this was the start of something great in their lives as they reached out to accept the touch of the volunteers who would bathe them and get them ready for their new foster families.   That morning all waited anxiously for their new foster families to arrive and a new adventure to begin..          .John has been with us for just one week and he is settling in a little more each day.  He is definitely still a puppy with boundless energy and curiosity.  This is his first time being in a home and learning about all that involves.  Everything is new to him - such as steps, countertops, sliding glass doors, TV, the sound of the washing machine and so many other things we take for granted.  We are working on crate training and he has had only one accident.  It happened when he saw his reflection in a glass door and thought another dog was challenging him with the tail up. He has picked up many nicknames like Little John, sometimes Big John, Johnny and John-John.   One thing John learned very quickly is how wonderful the human touch can be and is quite the snuggler and kisser.  He showers kisses on both people and dogs - just can't help himself.John completed his trip to the vet and finished his initial treatment for hookworm and also needed to have some Frontline Gold to take care of some fleas.  Everything else was an all clear for John weighing in at 55 lbs.  We topped off the week with a play date with his new friend Carolyn 17-049A and a wonderful bath at the groomer...The Golden life has just begun for Little John.  Because John is from a commercial breeding facility, he will need a home with another confident dog who enjoys playing but also who can help to correct him as needed.  He will also need a physical fence and a family who  can be patient with him as he continues to learn.  As a puppy, he will need a family that can appreciate he will need a lot of activity to help burn off energy and one that can be committed to taking him to Obedience 1 and 2 training.   John so wants to please - he just will need help to learn how to do that.  He will reward you with lots of kisses, snuggles and if you're lucky he'll let you rub his belly and tickle spots. We continue to go on walks to help John understand how to walk on a leash but also to get him used to all the outdoor things that are new.  A jet overhead, a sign, playground equipment, cars moving fast - these are all new to him and he's starting to show signs of getting used to them.  His forever family will need to continue to help him learn the new outside world as well that has opened up to him.John is not fond of bedtime but quickly settles in after a few barks, howls and some other very unusual sounds he makes that come deep from his belly.    He has been sleeping in a crate and seems more comfortable in a crate that he can see out of on all sides vs one that is enclosed.  I've learned that a little TV also helps to settle him in - he's a big fan of cartoons, especially SpongeBob.John will be available after March 17th  to find his forever family and is getting very excited for that special day.Watch his page for updates as Little John's world is moving very fast!!!.

John has some great news!!  He has found his forever home with a wonderful family where he will have a mom, dad, four siblings and a big Golden brother, Rory, who is a RAGOM alum to watch over him.  He is one lucky boy to have so much love coming his way and has a new name, Toby, to kick off his new Golden life. We already miss his beautiful smile, antics and all the wonderful snuggles we were so lucky to share with him. Thank you to everyone at RAGOM for rescuing this sweet boy along with all of his friends during the Missouri Auction so that they could have the opportunity to live the Golden life.   This picture of John/Toby with his mom, brother and sister says it all!!

First, John and I need to give a huge thank you to Anna, Chad and Miss Bella for surprising us with some wonderful Spring icons and their support of RAGOM.  We so appreciate you thinking of us!!!
We have continued to stay busy with a lot of training, a lot of treats and a lot of new toys.  John loves the outdoors and is very good about coming in, as he just wants to be where the people are.

He's definitely more comfortable throughout the house and has really learned the daily routine.   We're still working on different commands and have a ways to go with keeping off the counters.   I think he likes to just have a higher view of things as a lot of times he doesn't take anything but just looks around.  I did learn to move a bowl of oranges as I think he thought they were tennis balls.  He'll need a family who can continue to work with him on this and be sure to puppy proof their house - with special attention to the counters.

We walk daily and he has made so..... much progress in this area.   He really loves to go on walks and runs to the door when he knows the leashes are coming out.  Using a Gentle Leader or easy walk harness helps a great deal to keep him focused and he definitely has learned the "leave it" command.
He is still a very high energy boy and also a very affectionate one.  This last weekend John had a chance to go to his first Meet & Greet and was able to meet so many nice families and there is a strong chance one of them could be his forever home - paws crossed!!!    He was one tired pup at the end of the event, but I'm sure had some very sweet dreams that night about what his future will hold.

More to come next week.....hoping John will have some exciting news to share soon!

First, John and I need to thank Friends of Flicka for sponsoring us in memory of their wonderful friend, Yogi Bear, who gave them such joy.   Their sponsorship has helped John and his friends from the Missouri Auction start their journey to live the Golden Life and find their forever homes.   As you can tell in John's pictures, he is loving his new life and makes us smile every day.John would like to say a few words about how it is going so far....John here.   Getting used to my strong name and very proud to be named after another RAGOM friend and donor.  FM says I'm a very handsome, strong boy and a very active one.  Last week I had to have a little surgery they call neutering and it slowed me up for just about a day or two.  FM says I have to continue to take it slow for the next 10 days "absolutely no running", but I don't see what the big deal is.   At least we still go on walks and she has gotten me a lot more toys to play with so not all bad.FM keeps telling me this week will be a great time for us to learn a few commands like Sit, Off, Leave It and many, many more.    Not sure how this will all go, but I understand there are treats involved - so I'm game.Hope you like my new pictures.  The beautiful blond by my side is my Foster Sister, Nicole.   She's kind of like another mom - always looking out for me and she's teaching me a lot.  I learned how soft the couch is, which dog bed is the best, where the treats are kept, that anything coming out of the fridge is wonderful and always try to take the stairs slow.   I'm still working on that last one. FM says I need to get ready for my forever family, so off we go into a new week of learning!!  Stay tuned!
