Sweet and mellow girl! |
This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog. |
Hi, Julianne here!! I have recently arrived from Turkey – yes, the country of Turkey! And, as you can see, I am as happy as I can be to be in the USA! I just can’t stop smiling. My Turkish pals were so great to me and brought me all this way, and I am now in Alexandria, MN. I am five years old and a beauty if I do say so myself! I am learning English and the ways of this house. I have not lived in a house before, so it is all new, but I LIKE IT! And, I am working very hard on learning some new commands. I hear “come”, “sit”, “stay”, “good potty”, “good girl”, and lots of other stuff that is starting to make sense.
I also went to the vet last week and checked out very well. All of the boxes on the vet report were x’d in the normal range. Those included my eyes, ears, nose, throat, gums, teeth, heart, respiratory, abdomen, skin, muscle, bones, nervous system AND my attitude and behavior! (Psst, they listed me as sweet and mellow!) My only issues were I tested positive for worms. Oh, how embarrassing! We are taking care of that! And, I tested positive for Anaplasmosis and Erlichia which are from ticks, and I have a 28 day supply of an antibiotic for that. Well, and I more thing ----- I have to loose 10-15 pounds. I did not get much exercise in my old life as I was owned by an animal hoarder, and just lived tied to my dog house, so I did not burn many calories. So now, I am looking for someone who will feed me quality food and give me plenty of exercise to help me get to a healthy weight.
Ok, Foster Mom (FM) thinks she needs to tell you a bit more…..
Julianne is a wonderful dog. She is very mellow and adaptable. She is a petite girl in height( not petite in weight yet!). She was owned by an animal hoarder and was tied to her dog house in her former life in Turkey. Being in a house seemed all very new and scary for her, but she has adapted quickly. Below are a few more things that we have observed so far:
- She loves to be brushed, and we spent most of our first day brushing, cutting out mats, trimming nails and getting a bath. She really needed that spa day!

- She has done well with our resident dog and all the dogs that she has encountered. I think she would be fine to have another dog in her forever family, but I don’t think it is necessary.
- She has only been around one cat since we have had her and that was the clinic cat. She was only mildly interested in him.
- We introduced her very gradually to my 10, 8 and 5 year old grandchildren and I’m guessing she hadn't had much to do with children before. She warmed up pretty quickly in the house. When we went outside, she thought they were great and retrieved the ball for them, and they all had a good time. I do think if she is going to live with kids that it would be better for grade school age and up.
- She is crate trained.
- She rides very nicely in the car. Below is Julianne on her trip to the vet.

Lake life seems all new to her; the dock, the lake, wow, what is all that???? More on this later!

And, since no dog is perfect, here are a few things for Julianne to work on.
- Housetraining. She was accident free for the first 5 days, but then surprised me with 2 accidents in the house. I have gone back to more times outside
- Digging. The first time, it was pretty cute and she lightly dug up some mulch and buried her tennis ball! I had never seen a dog do that. She hardly disturbed the mulch and it was pretty cute that she hid it from the other two dogs in the yard. Twice since, she has decided that it is so much more comfortable to scratch up a little dirt before she takes a snooze. In this picture, she ended up wrapping her rope around the stair post, scratching up a little dirt and snoozing in the yet to be planted flower bed!

So, all in all, at the one week mark, I would say that Julianne is an exceptionally sweet and mellow girl with a few things to work on. I feel strongly about finding a very loving home for this sweet girl and one that will provide for her quality of life by being committed to keeping her at a healthy weight.
