Juno 04-264

Profile

Juno is an 8 month male from a Missouri puppy mill. Juno is a beautiful and gentle puppy - he has been through a lot in his short life and thus is quite timid right now. Juno was recently neutered and brought up to date on his shots. Juno does well in his crate - with no barking. It hasn't been determined if Juno is housetrained - in the day and half we have had him there have been no accidents in the house, however, we have taken him outside on a frequent basis.

Juno slept all night in his crate with no noise and no accidents. Juno was introduced to the ball for what appears to be the first time and he fetched it right away and dropped it nicely. This is one precious puppy; definitely a keeper. Updates will follow as Juno adjusts and we learn more about this wonderful pupper.

I'm heartbroken to report that our 10 year old RAGOM golden retriever, Ben, was put to rest on January 11th after suddenly becoming ill the day before. The vet said he was filled with cancer. Ben, formerly known as "Juno", was about 8 months old when we got him from RAGOM in August of 2004. He was rescued from a Missouri puppy mill at 7 months old.

I just want you to know that when Ben first came to our home, he had no muscle tone, would do everything he could not to look at us, did not wag his tail, and sort of squatted instead of standing up straight. He tired easily. With time and patience, he learned to wag his tail, got his muscles, perked his ears up, became a fearless hunter of pheasants and he smiled. He also started looking intensely into my eyes as if to tell me he loved me. I loved him back. Ben would watch me all the time. If he was asleep, and I looked over at him, he would wake up and look back at me. I can't explain it. To see how he blossomed was a joy I'll never forget. Ben had some funny quirks. One was that he would always moo like a cow whenever we returned back home. You never heard such a thing. Oh, how we we're going to miss that mooing.  Now our house is quiet. Even the young stray black lab mix pup we took in last year seems to be in mourning. Ben will be deeply missed.

I am enclosing one of Ben's latest pictures from this past July, 2013, where he is sitting tall and proud in my husband's old pheasant hunting truck. Ben loved going for rides. The other picture is of Ben when he was from a few years ago when he was out in the pasture running free. He was a beauty. Thank you for letting Ben come into our lives. Of all our dogs we have loved, I can say that Ben truly was the best dog we ever had.

Juno now appears to be much more relaxed in his new foster home.  Juno plays very well with his foster sisters and visiting dogs.  He appears to do quite well around Thicket, the Kitty.  Juno responds very well to his name, "come,"  "sit," "no," and learns pretty quickly.  Juno has an excellent temperament, is eager to please and very well mannered for a puppy.

Juno has been caught getting his paws dirty (digging) but stops and is easily diverted with a "no."  Juno crates very well (and quietly), but has now been allowed to sleep on the doggie bed in the bedroom and does very well - laying quietly all night.  Juno enjoys playing ball, tug-o-war with his foster sister, and chewing on bones and sticks.

Juno does very well in the house, no destructive behavior and stays calm.  Juno no longer does any counter surfing - he really wants to please you and stops inappropriate behavior quickly.  Juno is a wonderful boy and will make a very wonderful addition to some lucky family.

Juno went to the vet and received a clean bill of health.Juno weighed in at 56 lbs. and the vet thought that Juno would beon the small side when full grown.Juno rode very well in the car. As Juno settles in he is becoming less timid; he now will run around the yard and play with the ball more. Juno is now recognizing his name and working on basic commands. Of course Juno's favorite thing is to follow his people around and he is very good at it. Juno still has had no accidents in the house and has done no destructive chewing - although he tried to sneak a stick in the house. He does like to chew on bones and his other toys, and he is very proud of his tennis ball.

However, his favorite thing of all is giving puppy kisses to anyone who happens to bend down to his level. Juno is surprisingly good about not jumping up on people - one can tell he wants to but he will sit instead. Juno does have the unfortunate habit of counter surfing and does it very well, however we are working on the problem (although Juno insists it is not problem, merely a solution to a slight hunger problem) and making good progress. Juno has a very nice/healthy coat of a medium or medium-light golden at this time - and he stood very nicely as I brushed him. Juno is interested in checking out the cat but recognizes the wisdom of putting distance between himself and that small kitty with the big hiss and sharp claws. While Juno has not been around children at his foster home, he is a gentle dog. This sweet puppy is ready to go to his forever home - preferably one with a fenced yard and someone interested in providing obedience training, as he is still a puppy.
