First of all, Kayla would like to thank Zack and Kelly Olsen for sponsoring her. She is so very grateful for their help and support, and sends her love and holiday wishes!
We get really exited about little things these days. When someone rings our doorbell, Kayla leaves her safe place and comes out to see who is at the door. If she recognizes the person, she is right in there with my Golden greeting our guests. That’s a huge accomplishment for this sweet girl. She still hasn’t come into our living room and stayed for a while. She will wander out to the living room, circle around to see what’s going on, and then proceeds immediately back to her safe place. We’re working on getting her to join us and I know she will when she’s ready. Recently, Kayla followed my Golden up on my bed and now she sleeps on my bed most nights. Some nights, I have to figure out where I’m going to sleep, squeezing in between two Golden Retrievers.
Kayla is truly a beautiful and loving dog. She has won all of our hearts hands down. We still have a lot of work to do, especially getting her comfortable being outdoors. She does OK when she’s outside early in the morning or later at night when it’s dark, but the slightest noise frightens her and she bolts for the house. I’ve tried to use a tie-out, but at this point, it’s too scary for her, so we’ll just keep working at her pace. Kayla has made so much progress since that first day she arrived at my house. I am so proud of her and I know she is on the road to conquering her fears and living the Golden Life.

Happy Thanksgiving! We have so much to be thankful for. Kayla has been very busy the last two weeks and did great through it all. First up, she went to visit the vet. Our challenge was to get her into the car; Kayla was the perfect passenger. The vet checked her out from head to toe. She received the required vaccinations, tested negative for heartworm, negative for worms and parasites, received heartworm preventive and flea and tick preventive. Kayla appears to be very healthy; she just needs to go on a diet. She weighed in at 103 pounds. She is eating a reduced-calorie dog food and will need to start an exercise program. This past week, Kayla returned to the vet to be spayed and microchipped. The spay surgery went well.
Kayla is making excellent progress. This sweet girl is slowly overcoming some of her fears. She is getting used to being outside, but if a car or truck drives by or there’s a loud noise, she is back in the house in a flash. We’re continuing to work on the house-training issue and walking on a leash. She is starting to play with my Golden when they are outside and has met several of the neighborhood dogs. She loves lots of attention, tummy rubs, treats, and stuffed toys. She’s very shy, but loves to meet new people and dogs. Kayla is a sweet, beautiful Golden girl, very loving, polite and well-mannered. She is going to be a wonderful companion for a very lucky family. Please contact your placement advisor if you are interested in meeting Kayla.
