Kenya 07-547

Profile

Kenya is mom to three goldendoodles (Arabia 07-536, Milo 07-537, and Kopi 07-538). She is a very sweet 3 yr old golden retriever weighing in at 50#s. We've heard that she is really great with other dogs, but decided that she had such a busy day we'll try introducing her to the other dogs here tomorrow. She came up from Missouri and was rescued from a horrible puppy mill.

Kenya is doing wonderful! She was started on an antibiotic 1 1/2 weeks ago and has had to have been separated from her puppies so the antibiotic isn't passed onto them through her milk. Being separated from her puppies has really helped her socially. She's been very interested in going to the family room in the basement to visit with the other resident dogs. A few days ago we tried introducing her to one of the other adult dogs in the house. She instantly got along with her! The next day we tried introducing her to the other adult dog in the household. Again she instantly got along with her. Now her afternoons and evenings consist of playing constantly with the other dogs in the house. She plays really gentle with them. She loves to play chase or gently wrestle play with them. She's really in doggy heaven now that she has some playmates. Also, she has prove great with kids. She's wonderful when the kids from the the puppies new homes come over to play with the puppies and her. Also our neighbor's kids love to come over and play with all the dogs. She's super gentle and tolerant of the 4 year old pulling on her. It's wonderful to see how she's progressed since she's come here. I know in an earlier post I mentioned her growlyness towards the other dogs, but I don't want anyone interested in adopting her to be worried about that. Now that the puppies are separated her and she doesn't feel the need to protect them, her true personality is shining through. This gentle girl gets along with every dog we've encountered on walks, the neighbor kids, and resident dogs. She really is a gentle soul. She is learning to love car rides. The first few times she was in a car, she was scared out of her mind and tried climbing on the floor. Now she loves to sit and watch the other cars driving by and she's start sniffing at the air. She's also still walking wonderfully on a leash. She seems very interested of her surroundings and never pulls on the leash. Now that her puppies are almost ready to go to their new homes (4 days as of today), Kenya is ready to go to her forever home! Do you have room for this sweet gentle wonderful dog in your heart and home?

Kenya is doing really well. She is still being a wonderful mommy to her puppies. She LOVES human attention. Whenever she is out, she seems to need to be by me and needs assurance I'm not leaving her. She is 100% house broken and has never had an accident in the house. The only way I can explain her is sweet. She is a huge cuddle bug and gentle as a lamb. She is learning to walk wonderfully on a leash. Never pulls and always walks right next to me. She needs a little work on car rides...mostly because she's never been in the car before so it's a scary experience for her. She is so wonderful and sweet. I can't say enough good things about this girl.

Kenya is doing very well here. She's still very underweight, though we're working on trying to get more food into her belly. Earlier this week we tried introducing her to the resident dogs. First we went for a walk which everyone did very good with each other. When we got home and we were all in the backyard, Kenya got growly and snippy. Also she tried lunging at the foster cat later that night. Over the last few days she's really improved with the other animals in the house. She'll allow the foster cat to get around 7 feet from her when she's nursing her puppies (and won't growl at him). Also, she'll go up and sniff at him. No more growling or lunging at him. It seems like she's more curious than anything. Also, tonight she was upstairs when we were cooking dinner and the resident dogs were in the basement with a child gate blocking them from getting up the stairs. Kenya stood at the top of the stairs watching them with her tail wagging. I'm really thinking that the growling and lunging earlier in the week was due to stress of being moved from a puppy mill to a house, and her just being a really good protective mom. She has no issues with any human handling her puppies. In fact, she seems to like when I hold or play with her puppies.

She is turning out to be a very, very affectionate dog. She always seems to need to be next to a human. I think she's scared that if she lets you out of her sight, you'll leave her or disappear. She loves getting brushed and petted. She is 100% housebroken and has never had an accident in the house. If she needs to go outside, she'll run in front of the door and start dancing! She's crate trained though sometimes needs a little nudge to get into the crate. She's also discovering what toys are. I bought some small toys for the puppies and she's completely enthralled with them. Overall, Kenya is a wonderful dog and the best way to describe her is a HUGE sweetheart.
