Kobee 07-088

Profile

This gorgeous little guy is 2 year old Kobee! A wonderful family rescued Kobee from a bad situation and entrusted RAGOM with finding his forever home. Kobee is an absolute sweetheart! While Kobee has been with us, we've been working on helping this little boy build some confidence. He hasn't met a dog, or human that he doesn't get along with! Kobee isn't quite sure yet what it means to be a dog... in fact he isn't sure what a big back yard, toys and playtime with other dogs is for either! I feel blessed to be the one who gets to spend each day showing Kobee all the wonderful things about being a dog. Kobee has done very well meeting our resident (Ella) and other foster dog (Rosie 07-220). He thinks they're pretty neat...but isn't sure what they mean when they say "Kobee!! Come play with us!"  (And they think he's a handsome young man, as evidenced by Ella following him around licking/smooching his face).

Kobee spent most of his young life tied up outside, so he's most comfortable right now when people stay outside with him. He's making progess every time he goes outside, and spending more and more time looking around the yard and enjoying being outdoors.  Kobee is a quiet guy, and even though he has had it rough for awhile, there's a love and joy in his little eyes, and he's ready for a permanent home with some humans who love him that he can love back.

The past couple of nights he (and the girls) spent the night sleeping on the floor around our bed.  He didn't chew on anything, didn't make noise, in fact he was a perfect gentleman!  Kobee has spent much of his time following Jerad and I around.  When I'm working on the computer, Kobee comes and lays on the dog bed beside me...he's just a lovebug and a sweetheart!  Kobee is pretty thin...but not for lack of appetite!  We're working on fattening him up...and he couldn't be happier about it! ;)  We haven't heard him bark yet, and we're glad to see that he is indeed potty trained.

Young Mr. Kobee would love a family who will find joy in showing him how wonderful the world is.  After missing out on almost two years of love and fun, he wants to start making up for lost time! Right now he's pretty content to hang around the house with us, and nap, but he enjoys walks (and does well!) and I know there's a energetic, happy little pup in there who would love a family to go on walks with, and call his own.

For the second time in five months, we had to put one of our RAGOM boys to sleep. It’s been a heartbreaking summer and fall.

We said goodbye to our little Kobee on October 6.  He came to us in 2007 as a scared, unsure 2-year-old. He had severe separation anxiety and was not a big fan of thunderstorms and fireworks. Over the years we worked through these anxieties and he grew to be more confident and sure-footed.

He was a very loving dog who enjoyed running at high speeds (boy, could he run!), chewing on sticks, following the sun beams for the best napping spot, and making snow angels.  He was a great big brother to gentle giant Butch 11-364, and even though he was 20 pounds lighter, he was the alpha dog.

In his last couple years with us he had some severe arthritis and spinal degeneration, which we treated with acupuncture, water therapy, massage.  He endured a lot but kept a happy face and tail through it all.

Ultimately we think stomach lymphoma is what took him (we elected to not put him through the diagnostic tests to definitively find out, due to his age and other ailments).

Who would have thought this scared little guy would outlive two of his fur-legged brothers and see the age of 13.5? He was an old soul, my cuddle bug, and my constant reminder that it’s a good day when you can just sit outside in the sun and watch the world go by.

I miss him terribly but I like to think he and Butch are side by side, looking for chipmunks and rolling in smelly stuff. I’m attaching a couple photos from his time with us, one with Butch by his side.

Thanks again, RAGOM, for helping these pups find their forever homes. I just wish it truly was forever that we could spend our lives with them.

It's been a week since Kobee first came to us, and he's gotten quite a bit accomplished!  First I am pleased to report that Kobee seems to have added a bit of weight during his time here!  He is very well mannered when he eats his meals, no gulping food.  He doesn't bother Ella (or her food) when she's eating, and after a few extra big meals...he is now down to a normal amount of food.  He'll even let us know when he's full by politely backing away from the food dish and giving us a sweet look as if to say "thanks for the food but I think I'm full now!"  He went to the vet on Monday, and had some blood work done to make sure that there was no medical cause for his low weight.  All of his tests came back normal, and so now it is just a matter of time before Kobee is his perfect weight!

Kobee has also taken this past week to learn how to play!  Now Kobee will play fetch with us and run around the yard with Ella.  He is spending more and more time outside, in fact a couple of days ago I went in the house and Kobee didn't come in to find me for 15 minutes!  He enjoys chewing on bones, edible chews and sticks.  He does great on walks, and really enjoys them.  We still haven't heard him bark, even when the neighbors are in their yards he'll just walk up to the fence and watch them.  He continues to be a perfect gentleman during the times we're gone and has proven himself trustworthy with full access to the house.  He's also wonderful in the car; he'll find a comfy spot and nap.  Naps are one of Kobee's favorite things....it's what he does when we're not outside playing.  Right now Kobee is laying by my feet...and once I get up he'll follow me to the next room and restart his nap ; )  If I want to cuddle with him, all I have to do is jump on the bed or couch and invite him up.  He'll snuggle up right next to me and lay with me until it's time to get up.  Also, I was impressed with Kobee's calm demeanor when he got his ears cleaned...he made Ella look like a big sissy pants!

A family is coming to meet Kobee next week!  We'd miss Kobee an awful lot, but he's ready to be home.  This little guy will give his family all the love in his heart, and would be a loyal and devoted friend all of his life.
