It is my pleasure to introduce you to my temporary foster boy, the absolutely wonderful Kody. Kody has traveled far and endured a great deal, yet remains one of the sweetest and most well-behaved dogs I have ever met. Seriously! When he first arrived, he was shy, skinny and not well. He had tummy issues, an ear and upper respiratory infection. He traveled here, via transport, all the way from a high-kill shelter in Louisville, KY. He is between 4.5 and 5 years old and about 50 pounds (10-15 underweight). Two things were quite evident, someone loved this boy at some time and someone abused and neglected him. In the last 10 days, he has gained some weight, healed nicely from the infections and come out of his shell. Boy, has he ever!!

He is an absolute love! He jumps up on my recliner and curls his 50+ pounds up on my lap. It is delightful!! He adores being petted but does not push for it. He is just an always willing recipient!  Kody also loves to play! It took a few days, but eventually he located a rope toy. That first day (and ever since) I must have thrown that rope 100 times. He was absolutely full of joy and enthusiasm. Initially, he was wary of my husband, but that has passed. He loves my sister's Ragom girl, Lucy, and my resident, Stanley. He and Lucy romp around the backyard and have a blast!  We have had a couple of issues with resource guarding, so all meals are supervised and all bowls go up between meals. So far, no more issues.

I think that Kody is definitely benefitting from having other dogs around. He arrived here so traumatized and has just blossomed. I know he is going to miss Lucy so much!

We are going to miss Kody when he goes on to his permanent foster home on Saturday. This is one special boy. He came here able to sit, lie down and high five. He is remarkably obedient while still being mischievous and full of joy. Once Kody has been re-checked and cleared by the Vet, his perm-foster can begin to introduce him. Keep this boy in mind, they don't come around like him that often!! We are going to miss him so much!!

Hello everyone, I'd like to reintroduce you to the very sweet, handsome, smart boy Kody. Kody has made his was back into the RAGOM family after two bite incidents in his adoptive home. The first incident happened when his teenage human brother gave him a hug and Kody nipped him on the cheek. The 2nd incident happened when Kody's family was on vacation and the dog sitter tried to hug him after a walk and he bit her on the hand. Kody's family realized their home was too busy for Kody to fully relax and they made the tough decision to return Kody to RAGOM. Kody is now hanging out at one of our boarding facilities where he is a favorite of the staff.

Kody has not displayed any concerning behaviors while in boarding. The staff really likes this sweet guy and I can understand why. Three of our evaluation team members met Kody today and we were all impressed with his sweet personality. He is a big puppy in an adult dog body. He loves to jump up for attention but is quick to sit when asked to do so. Kody knows several commands, sit, lay down, and high five (with each paw or both). Someone spent time training him at some point in his life. He had no issues with us checking out his mouth, ears and feet. He was fine with us touching him on his head and body....we did not attempt to hug him as not all dogs like to be hugged. Kody did not exhibit any resource guarding with his food dish. He was fine with us petting him while he ate and allowed us to move around his dish while he ate....no issues at all. He takes treats nicely and is treat motivated.

Kody would do best in a quiet home with adults only. He has lived with other dogs in his foster homes and did fine with them. If he lives with other dogs I think the best match would be with a mellow, easy going dog. He did fine meeting our easy going test dog today. Kody would love a home where he gets plenty of consistent exercise and one on one time. I am unsure if he needs a fenced yard or not. He is lab mix and has a shorter lab length coat. Kody is available for adoption even though he is in boarding. He is waiting for his perfect forever home. Please contact your placement adviser if you think you are a match for Kody.

Kody had a very fun and eventful weekend. On Saturday two of my little neighbor girls ages 1 and 4 came over for a full day and sleep over while there parents were out of town. I was very curious to see how Kody would do with having two younger girls around. To no surprise Kody was exceptional. He was very careful around the girls and was always around us just watching and taking in all the fun. He sniffed and was interested in the toys the girls and I were playing with but he never tried to get into them or chew them, he is trained so well. In my backyard we have a little hill perfect for taking younger children sledding on. Kody came out with us to play and he had a blast! Every time we got to the bottom of the hill Kody would run up and make sure we were ok. Since he was from Kentucky I don't think he ever really has had the experience to know what snow or sledding is. Now that he is more used to the snow, he likes to be outside and frolic and play, well at least until his paws start to get cold.
There are other fun things that we are learning about Kody. Kody LOVES to chew. We have bought him Kong brand toys which are more durable. Other toys haven't standed a chance. He never chews what he shouldn't but when he has a toy he knows is his, he loves to go at it. I can always take a toy away from him if needed though. Kody has his relaxing moments as well, he absolutely loves car rides. He sits and stares out the window at all the cars. He also loves to look into mirrors. He will sit and watch himself and my family through them for extended periods of time. He also walks out of rooms backwards, it is the goofiest thing to watch! He also is a dancer, if I have music on and am goofily dancing in front of him, he will put his paws up to dance with me!
Kody shows his love at the most rewarding times. The other night I was sitting with Kody as he was eating his dinner. During the middle of the meal he stopped, looked up at me and then gave me a huge kiss on my face, then started eating again. Kody doesn't kiss faces much so it was a very rewarding kiss for me. I think it was his way of saying, "Mom thanks for everything!"
Kody has the best personality, he has funny quirks that make you laugh, and the puppy dog face that pulls at your heart strings. He is an absolute wonderful boy!

Merry Christmas Everyone! Kody is so happy that this year he got to spend it with his foster family and not the kill shelter, or worse.. It wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for all of the fabulous RAGOM volunteers!

Kody woke up so excited to see what Santa brought him! We were excited to see if he would open his own presents. Our dachshund Heidi decided it was better if she opened presents and let Kody just have what was in them. Kody sat so patiently why she opened them for him, even though he was so confused with what she was doing! He absolutely loved his new stuffy and treats. Took him not longer than 15 minutes to tear that sucker up! He was pooped after all the excitement and relaxed with foster uncle and grandpa :) (picture below) Then it was off to foster great grandma's house. He had met her before but was excited to go visit her again! To his surprise Santa had dropped off presents to her house too. He LOVED his new kong toy he unwrapped there (picture below). The biggest surprise of the day was when he spotted a deer outside in the back yard. Kody just sat and starred out the window for a good 10 minutes. He didn't bark or try to get out but more so was trying to figure out what the deer was and what he was doing. Eventually he past out by the window where the sunshine was coming through.

With all the family and friends Kody has met through the past two days, he has done a fabulous job! He loved everyone and played all night long. He and my brother Drew (foster uncle) hit it off the most. He doesn't think it will take Kody long to find his furever home and I don't either! If you would like to wake up with Kody on Christmas mornings let placement know!

Kody arrived at our home (permanent foster home) last Saturday. From the second he got into our home, he had our hearts. His temp foster did an amazing job at breaking Kody out of his shell and helped him begin to trust and love again. One thing for sure is that Kody does LOVE and he loves big. He is a dog who aims to please. Even though Kody is so lovable, he still has some minor issues. He is skittish and nervous at times. When he gets like that, we have one of our "talks" where he sits and I rub his sides and calmly talk him down. This seems to help him tremendously. When he gets nervous, he just needs someone to tell him its going to be okay and that no one will ever hurt him again. One thing that seems to trigger his anxiety is the crate. We attempted once to put him into it and he got super scared and hid in our main floor bathroom. We decided that the crate was not needed if it was going to cause him such anxiety, so we let him have free roam when we left the home. He did an absolute AMAZING job! There were no messes or destruction when we came home. There hasn't been any since we have had him either. He hasn't attempted to get into anything he shouldn't and has had no potty accidents.

When you first meet Kody, he greets you will a bunch of energy. He is so happy to have people around that he just has to let you know. He will even give you a special kiss on the lips which he does not give easily. Once he knows everything is settled, he settles as well. He loves to cuddle up on the chair or couch at night as well. He loves to cuddle with his people and I think that is something that comforts him. He even sleeps in my bed with me at night. Everytime I move, he adjusts with me so that we are always close. He isn't a dog that hogs the bed, though. He seems to have some not-so-fun nightmares at night. There are times he yelps and shoots up and imediately looks for comfort from me. Whatever was so bad in the past has stuck with him.

Kody is such a lovable boy. He is so well behaved! He and my dachshund get a long so nicely. They even play tug-o-war with his rope toy - interesting to watch with such different body sizes! He shares very well and hasn't shown one sign of resource guarding. Kody may have a rough past, but that makes him just that much more appreciative of the love that he is given. He will make someone's home complete and bring so much joy! It didn't take him long to get into my heart. If you think Kody sounds like he is that pup for you, let placement know!
