Our sweet little Kyler is getting so big. I can't believe how the time flies. And he is doing absolutely fantastic.
After the incident with foster dad accidentally stepping on Kyler, & then ending up needing surgery because of where the break was & how difficult it was to keep a cast on, Kyler is on the road to recovery & is ready to start looking for a home to call his own. Kyler ended up with having an external fixator placed on his leg in order to assure nice alignment with faster & more certain healing. Two weeks later when I was concerned he may have been developing a pin site infection, the vet decided to take an X-ray first. Luckily the break was completely healed & Kyler had the fixator removed that evening without an issues. Since then, the pin sites have healed completely & his fur is starting to grow back & he's off all restrictions. He is loving running around the yard with the big dogs playing fetch...& he's one fast little dude. According to the vet, the break & subsequent surgery will just be a little blip in his history & he shouldn't have any long term issues with that leg. And at this point I think Kyler would consider it all a bad dream.
I'm not sure where it came from but Kyler has earned himself a couple nicknames...the most prevalent are Little Man & Little Bean. We have a huge raspberry patch in our yard & they are starting to become ripe. The first few times I offered Little Bean the berries he turned his nose up & looked at me like I was crazy. After seeing the other dogs eating the berries right off the bushes he has decided it's kinda fun to pick his own. But hey, the more he picks the less I have to pick so it's a win win!
Kyler has been continuing to work on his potty training. Some days just when I'm about to swear that he's got it all figured out he will have several accidents. More often that not though it will be my fault for not remembering that he needs to go out more frequently than the big dogs do. He will sleep in his kennel all night without a peep & is doing great when he gets free roam during the day. He is best buddies with our other foster dog Cammie 17-085TD. They absolutely love to play, play, play together. While I don't think it's mandatory for Kyler to have another dog in his furever home, I know he would certainly appreciate a playmate.
At our last vet visit Kyler weighed in at 26 pounds but that was with the 2 pounds of metal still attached to his leg. He may be a pound or 2 more by now but the vet feels that he won't be but maybe 45 pounds max when he's fullly grown based on X-rays...I guess that's kind of a scientific guess. That being said, Kyler is one big love bug. He absolutely loves to snuggle. And he gives the best kisses ever, & lots of them!!
