Hello again! We've been busy with doctor appointments since Lacey's last update. We have good news to report, Lacey has been cleared to be adopted! Although Lacey has some instability and weakness in her rear limbs, she can get around just fine. She is able to go for short walks, chase tennis balls and run around as you would expect her to. Lacey's doctor thinks her rear limb issues are due to a possible disk protrusion or disk bulge in her spine. This is something Lacey will manage with medications, it is unlikely that surgery will remedy the rear leg instability/weakness. Her front legs and neck are completely normal. Lacey is currently taking 2 medications and is very happy and comfortable! She will need to stay on these medications for the rest of her life, but they are inexpensive, common medications. Lacey's quality of life is not hindered by her spinal issue, she can walk strongly on her own and is only slow going down stairs or on slippery floors. She walks just fine on the wood floors in our home now that she is comfortable on them. I do keep a few small rugs near the stairs so she doesn't slip coming down and she does great!
Lacey is a very playful 9 year old, who loves people! She also loves other dogs, as long as they are not too "jumpy" near her.
As mentioned in previous updates, Lacey is a pleasure to have around. She has free roam in our home at all times, she is fully potty trained, does not jump on people or furniture, sleeps through the night on her dog bed and is never destructive in any way. She loves to be near her humans. I do not have a fenced yard and Lacey knows the boundaries, she stays near us when we are outside. Lacey walks great on a leash too. The only time she barks is if the doorbell rings, and it's not excessive at all. She is a sweetheart who loves to snuggle up and rest her head on our shoulders, it's her way of giving hugs! She loves to be brushed and our groomer says she is "a joy" to groom and bathe. Lacey had her teeth professionally cleaned by our vet in December, she was also seen by an ophthalmologist who said her eyes look great. She does have one minor cataract in her right eye, but that is completely normal for a dog her age.
Everyone who meets Lacey just loves her and you will too! Please contact placement if you would like to meet Lacey!
