Lou 06-258

Profile

6/19/06: Lou came into RAGOM on Father's Day - he is the father of the three Iowa pups; Aubbie, Tigger, and Goldie. He is estimated to be between 2 - 3 years old, and was removed along with his pups from a Backyard Breeder by the state of Iowa. The State gave the dogs to Animal Control, where the boys have been for the last month.

These guys are really small; I can't imagine that Lou weighs any more than 50 pounds. He is VERY skinny and I can see his pelvic bones very clearly. He didn't want to eat his Father's Day dinner as he was quite anxious, but I sat on the kitchen floor with him and he was happy to eat his food out of my hand.

Lou is not neutered yet, but has an appointment on Tuesday evening and will be neutered and brought up-to-date on all his vaccinations on Wednesday. Since he is very skinny, I've already brought in a stool sample and it tested negative for parasites which REALLY surprised me.

I am still kenneling him since I'm not sure if he's house-trained or not, but I found out already that he is a counter-surfer and doesn't respond to any commands (but is learning "OFF" the counter). It's quite obvious that being inside the house is new for him, so it will take a bit of patience and gentle obedience training for him to become comfortable and confident with his new life as a companion dog.

If you are looking for a beautiful Red dog, look no further! Lou has a gorgeous face, and what a great size for a dog; he just needs to put on a bit of weight (I wish we all had that problem!) :) He's very food-motivated so training should be a breeze.

On December 7th, we helped our sweet Lou cross the Rainbow Bridge. His kidney disease finally progressed to the point where there was no more we could do to help him. Our hearts are broken and we will miss him forever. Until we meet again my handsome boy....

Love forever,

Mom and Dad
