Hi RAGOM! My name is Lucas, and I am 8 weeks old. My estimated birthday is 10/7/2015. My brothers and I were born on a reservation in ND and urgently needed help……luckily for us, RAGOM agreed to take us into the family!  We have now been with our Foster Mom (FM) getting healthier and stronger and preparing to go into separate foster homes. When I first came to FM, we all weighed just under 5 lbs, had coccidia, roundworms, and some other buggies that wanted to live on us. But in 3 weeks, I have gained 2.5 lbs and got medicine to help me with the other things. I am working on getting a nice thick coat of fur so I can play in the snow this winter!

FM says I can be the more observant pup, and I don’t mind investigating things on my own without my brothers. I was a bit scared when I first came, but have been working on learning the world is not scary. Every day, FM and us work on having new experiences, hearing new sounds, and meeting new people. And each day, our confidence is growing stronger.

I have learned to sit for treats, and am the most patient puppy waiting for my turn. I also have mastered going up and down stairs and boy, is that fun!

FM is excited to see what I end up looking like as a big boy. I bet I will be very handsome. I am pretty excited to learn all about this great life FM tells me I will have. All I need is my very own family to continue teaching me, loving me, and guiding me. Is that you?

I am supposed to remind everyone that puppies are a lot of work, and I will need a lot of your time, patience, and energy to help me become the very best doggy I can be.

Lucas was adopted today by Katarina!! This is her second rescue adoption. She has extensive experience with dogs and has actually been a dog trainer before. She will teach Lucas everything he needs to know to be a good dog!! Lucas will also have a new big brother to play with and be able to go to work with Katarina to work on his socialization. Congratulations to them both!

Hello! It has been a while since I have updated on Lucas. He has had a very eventful young life and decided to throw a twist into things.... Literally! He was out with my resident Golden at 8 p.m. for his last potty when we heard him begin to cry loudly in pain. We quickly ran to him to find him protecting his back left leg. He would not bear weight on it and we have come to find out this little guy has a spiral fracture of his tibia!!!

After the need for surgery was ruled out, he was splinted and sent home on pain medications and activity restrictions. The first week was rough. He had to be carried outside to go potty every couple hours, medicated every 4 hours, and consoled frequently.

Lucas is expected to be in a splint for a couple of months. He needs to be driven to the Inver Grove Animal Hospital once a week for a checkup and to have his splint changed. He is no longer on an activity restriction and gets around quite well with his little peg leg!!

Though the vet cannot tell us for sure what happened to cause the fracture. Due to the nature of the break, they think he may have caught his paw in something or was engaging in rough play. He and my resident do have quite the bond and love to wrestle. I do have to say that more often than not, Lucas is the instigator!! He is a high-energy puppy and wherever he goes, his forever family must be aware that for him to thrive, he needs regular exercise.

The silver lining to all of this is that he now loves his crate and is 80% potty trained since he has been on such a regimented schedule. He sleeps in my room or on the couch with my resident overnight and is only crated when we are all at school or work. He has been in a crate for about 6-7 hours at most so far with no mess.

Lucas is a lover!! He is still a baby in so many ways despite that he is growing rapidly before our eyes. He will cry when he wants to get up on your lap and gives the best begging faces!! He is just learning how to bark and likes to let me know when we have visitors. He loves to be cradled and will sit in your arms and on your lap as long as you'll let him. He loves my older kids, but can be shy around very little kids that flood him with attention right away. He does not guard and lets me gently pull his ears, pet him, shake his tail, and do all sorts of funny things to him while he eats! His favorite things are sticks and tennis balls. He is losing teeth left and right, so will need appropriate chew toys! He really is a pleasure to have in our home. His loyalty and personality are going to make for a great lifelong companion.

Lucas has been a complete JOY to have in our home. He is the most humorous puppy we have ever fostered, full of personality and antics!! He plays hard with my resident dog and my kids and makes up for it with frequent naps in the silliest places.

He is about 10 weeks old now and went to the vet right before Christmas and has a clean bill of health. He is lice-free - his coat is looking shiny and full, he is up-to-date on shots, and his heart murmur is improving. My vet says it is now a Grade 1 instead of 2 and he will grow out of it by 6 months. I can't even tell. He is a typical playful puppy!

He is crate-trained now and when I give him something he treasures, he takes it to his crate to be alone with it!! He never cries at night anymore and has so far kept it clean. He is learning the ropes of going potty outside, but I let him out frequently when I am home. The longest he has been in the crate is about 6 hours during the day and he goes a full night without crying.

Lucas clearly knows his name. He knows how to sit and he knows a firm "NO" means to stop. He is going to be neutered on January 8th and then will be ready for his forever home!!

This is 9-week-old Lucas who is now separated from his brothers and settling well into my home. He loves my resident dog and children, toys, and our Christmas tree! He spent his first night in a crate last night, which was not his preference, but he managed. He has litterally been my shadow and is going to be a true honorary Golden!! He likes to lay on my couch pillows like a little prince.

As stated above, Lucas had a rough start in his life, but he will be visiting the vet and getting neutered this coming week. This will have him all prepared for adoption.

Lucas is all puppy! He needs teaching and guidance to grow into a good dog and he will repay you with loyalty and companionship for many years to come.
