Sasha is a beautiful one-year-old black Golden Retriever/German Shepherd mix coming from a loving family in ND. It must have been a very emotional, but necessary decision. She has no medical issues! She is a very loving and intelligent girl and high-energy!

Sasha has been busy since March 5th adjusting to life in the Twin Cities with a family of three dogs and six cats. I found that a Gentle Leader collar is necessary for safe walks when a squirrel runs past. She weighs in at 50#, a very powerful force when a critter is involved. Dog training may help with obedience and walking at a slower, less erratic "heel."

100% housebroken. Not one accident since arrival and it seems she will "potty" on command when outside. Bonus!

Sasha's history includes living with a six-year-old child. With her exuberance and size, that is a consideration for the adopting family. She could easily knock over a toddler.

Of course, tennis balls are in her repertoire of favorite toys. She could fetch forever! She enjoys Kong squeaky tennis balls, rope toys, and stuffed toys. Keeping her busy is important. Sasha enjoys tug games with the resident dogs. She adapts to strange dogs with proper introductions. She would be a candidate for a dog park or doggie day care.

Sasha had her "spring tune-up," so she is up-to-date on all required vaccinations, negative for heartworm and parasites. Monday, her spay was completed. After the recovery, she will be ready to chase balls again!

Keep tuned to Sasha's evolving story...

It's been a big week for Sasha!! We've been able to get to know this sweet, funny girl even more, and we gotta say she'd make such a great family dog. She definitely still has her puppy energy. She loves to play with her toys; she would play fetch or tug-o-war with you all day long if you'd let her. She also loves to wrestle--with another dog or a person, she doesn't care, as long as someone's playing with her! She still does that adorable puppy thing where she cocks her head when she's curious.

Both dogs got baths this week! Sasha sat very well in the bathtub while we scrubbed and rinsed her; she actually seemed to enjoy it. She got nice and clean because we took her on a special trip for Easter Sunday. We took Sasha, along with our resident, Nim, up north to my dad's house. She was fine in the car for 45 minutes and was an absolute charmer with my family. She met a 1-year-old and did so well with being gentle with him. She did slobber on his face pretty well, though! (On a separate occasion, she met a 2-year-old and a 3-year-old and did equally well as well.) She also met my brother's two dogs and became instant buddies with one of them, a Basset Hound named Bentley.

We joke that Sasha is part horse because she's like a wild mare on walks. We've tried walking both with the Gentle Leader and without it. She pulls a lot without it (and she's a strong girl!), so the Gentle Leader is the best option for her. She also makes these adorable groans when she's relaxing that sound like a horse. She really has personality.

While a fence is not required, it should be noted that as of right now, Sasha has little recall. She doesn't reliably come when she's called. Don't let her size fool you--she's still a puppy. She's incredibly smart, though, and would do awesomely with training. She knew "sit" and "down" when she arrived, and we've now added "shake" and "drop it" to her repertoire. We're also still working on "stay" and "wait." She's starting to understand the commands "stop" and "walk" when we're on walks, too. She has taken the role of the dominant dog in our house, but there hasn't been any aggression and she loves all dogs and all people.

Sasha would fit into just about any family that has the time and love for her. She does great with other dogs, but would be a great only dog as well. She's so good with kids, and I could see her being a little girl or boy's best friend. But who are we kidding, she's so sweet she could be anyone's best friend! Come and meet this sweetheart for yourself.

Sasha is all recovered from her spay surgery and has been with her permanent foster family a little over a week. She is such a sweet girl. She was instant buddies with our resident Golden, Nim, and they love to play and wrestle in the yard for hours on end!

Sasha is definitely a smart, high-energy girl, but when it comes time to relax, she will not object to some snuggling on the couch with FD. She would do well in an active home. She'd make a great hiking or running partner.

Sasha does well in a crate. We've crated her for 7 hours on the occasions we've both had to work, but we think she could easily work up to having free roam of the house. She has complete free roam while one or both of us is home, but she likes to stay where we are or where her foster sister is. She does do some counter-surfing, so we have to watch for that, but we think some basic puppy obedience would do wonders for her.

She came from a home with a 6-year-old and would do well with kids, but she still has a tendency to jump on people, so she could easily knock a toddler down.

Sasha was clearly a very loved dog, as she is very affectionate and well-adjusted. She would be an excellent choice for first-time dog owners.
