Mao has been adopted to a wonderful family! They are a great family for Mao and will take excellent care of him. He is in a beautiful home with a big yard to run and play fetch in. He gets lots of exercise which is exactly what he needs. Congratulations Mao, we miss you terribly already but know you are being very well taken care of. Hugs and kisses...your foster parents.

Mao is doing great. We continue to give him his eye drops daily. He will see the eye vet in a few months. Right now, his eye is just being monitored.  He did have a few days stay at another RAGOM foster's house...Thanks so much Rutager!  Mao was very well taken care of and exercised. He was taken on 4-6 mile walks daily and this did him well. He does have a lot of energy and will need some good daily exercise. He loves to play fetch in the back yard. He will get rambunctious if not exercised.

Mao had a recheck at the eye doctor and his inflammation is down, along with the dried blood clot! We are so excited, the meds are helping. He still needs drops twice a day. He will have another check up in three months. The doctor said that it is very important for his adopter to know that he will need continued lifelong care for this eye, so the adopter needs to be aware of the expense of this. He currently goes to the Companion Animal Eye Care in Golden Valley off Highway 100 and Highway 55. He may eventually need to have the eye removed.

Since Mao's eye has been feeling better, he has gotten sooooo much more energy. Now he is acting like an 11 month old puppy, so just beware, he needs a lot of exercise on a daily basis. We play ball in the back yard to burn some energy and he also wrestles with our resident dog, along with walking. Be ready for some play time if you adopt Mao!!

He has put on more weight which is GREAT because he was so undernourished...he now weighs a whopping 50 lbs. and will get bigger! Be prepared for a large dog!!

Oh my goodness. Mao is such a cutie pie! He loves face massages, just a little scratch on the cheeks and head and he goes into a zen like state....closing his eyes, tilting up his head, it's adorable. I'm gonna try to post a picture of it. Mao is a dog who needs a home where he will get love and companionship, he loves to be around people. He brings us his toys and lays them on our laps when we are chilling and watching t.v....so cute, we pretend the toy is talking and he listens very intently.  Mao does need some guidance on how to walk properly on a leash, not jump on people, or counter surf. He also has had a few accidents in the house when we first got him, but he was on prednisone for his eye which makes him need to go potty often. However,  he most likely needs a little more training on this too. He is very trainable, he just needs someone patient to teach him. He has so much love to give to the right person/family, he will make a great companion.

Mao had his 2 week eval at the ophthalmologist (eye doctor) today. Some of his inflammation did go down in his eye, however she did say that the potential adopter needs to know that he will either be on eye drops/meds for his life or need to get a prosthetic eye...there is not a surgery that will correct this issue. She also mentioned that she is wondering if the damage to the eye was from trauma...i guess we will never know. He will need to be under the care of a doggy ophthalmologist for his eye for the length of the issue or prosthesis. He is currently under the care of Animal Companion Eye Center in Golden Valley which is a remarkable place.

I do want to let you know that Mao is such a sweet, sweet dog! He is a beautiful pure bred golden retriever who loves to be around his family. He has made a permanent place in our hearts and we love to see his smiling face every day!! He sleeps by us every night, and sometimes jumps on the bed for cuddles. He loves playing with our resident golden and cat and is very respectful of their commands that play time is over.

Mao will be getting neutered as soon as we can get him in then he will be up for adoption for his FUREVER home before the holidays!!

Mao had his eye appointment with an amazing doctor. And Mao was an amazing patient. He made me fall even more in love with him. He is such a good boy. He is so cooperative when all the poking and prodding is going on...such a patient fella. Here's the low down: Mao Mao has an eye that is not quite full size, (you can barely tell) along with some inflammation. The doctor put him on some eye drops to reduce the inflammation for 2 weeks; we will re-evaluate then to see what can be done...surgery to fix it, or possibly the eye may need to be removed. In the mean time, here's a little more info on this wonderful pupster: he walks great with his gentle leader, he loves to play fetch, and loves when it's breakfast and dinner time! He has learned to sit and shake before each meal, he is so easily trainable. Mao has made a special place in my heart...so easily lovable. You will fall in love with him before you know it.

Mao Mao is scheduled for his eye exam on Oct. 3rd. to see if he will need surgery or not. He is doing great. He has been fitting into our home quite well. He is getting along great with our resident female golden and our cat. We don't have kids but I do know he would knock down smaller ones because he jumps, so better to go to a home with kids who are older than 10.

Mao Mao came to RAGOM from Iowa City, IA. His owner gave him up because he is in need of cataract surgery and they can not afford it. He is being fostered in South Minneapolis. Mao Mao is male, 40 lbs, fully intact so will also need to be neutered before adoption. He is 8 months old, super sweet, we fell in love with him right away.

He is a pure bred but with that comes some issues from over breeding. He has an underbite, along with some deformation of lip tissue which is not really noticeable. The vet said things like this happen often with overbreeding.

Mao was trained to go potty inside the apartment in which he lived, but he has not had any mistakes in our home. We do let him out frequently as we work from home and also because he is on prednisone for his eyes which makes him drink more and need to potty more.

He is great with our resident dog and cat. We do not have children so we are not sure about how he is wih kids. We respects our 4 ft fence, has a medium energy level. Mao will be available for adoption after his evaluation and possible surgery for his cataracts and neuter.
