Marshmallow (Casey 18-173)

Profile

Casey is a gentle, sweet boy who came to us from a breeder. He has a cropped tail, a shorter ear, and some scarring on his belly from his past. He is very shy around new people and in new places, but is slowly coming out of his shell. He is very alert all day, and is working on feeling comfortable in our home still—even daily things like cooking and cleaning are new and scary for him. However, he is extremely cuddly and loving and feels safest snuggled up against his foster mom and dad.

Casey, soon to be Marshmallow, has done great the last few weeks gaining confidence and learning new tricks: he now knows "sit," "stay," "down," and "shake," and is learning "peak" and "roll over."

His adoptive family has signed him up for basic obedience training, so that he can learn to be a very good boy! He is getting along great with other dogs and now lets strangers pet him when he goes on walks.

We are excited for this boy to go to his forever home where he can thrive.

Casey is winning over our household the more his personality comes out as he gains confidence. He is becoming more playful and just learned how to fetch a tennis ball. Water bottles are his favorite toy now--he loves to chew them up and play with them by himself.

He is still being kennel trained, as it is hard for him to know what is and isn't a toy, but he is doing better in his kennel and is overall doing well with redirection.

Casey got neutered this week, which was hard for him. He was crying and shaking when Foster Mom dropped him off and picked him up. He regressed a little that night, especially with night barking, but was back to his normal self in the morning.

Otherwise, he is doing great overnight and learned to wake up Foster Mom to potty if he has to. He has been sleeping in bed with his foster parents and the resident dogs and does very well, which is helping with his nighttime wake-ups. He is still kenneled during the day when his foster parents are at work.

Casey learned to shake this week, but is still working on rolling over. He is a quick learner!

He has only had one accident this week when the door was open and he was unable to ring the bell to let us know he had to go out. He is making leaps and bounds every week, and we feel very grateful we get to watch him grow into a happy, healthy dog!

Casey loved the snow and kept asking to go out to play in it! His foster brother is part Husky, so the two of them were very happy running in the snow all day! He is going to be a bundle of fun in the coming months!

Casey has made great strides this week. He went on his first ever walk, and now goes every day! He is still shy and walks right behind Foster Dad, who is now his favorite person, but does well when people want to stop and pet him. He is much more confident when walking with my resident dogs, but has walked alone as well. He does not pull at all and loves to go!

Walking is so much fun!

Casey is very quiet and makes little noise, unless he is frightened. He often wakes up in the middle of the night and barks, mostly when our resident dogs move sleeping position or our resident cat is moving around. He is more anxious in the dark and noises or movement scare him. We are working on soothing him through the night, including using a nightlight, so that he won't wake up anymore.

Because he is quiet, he was trained this week to use a bell on our door to signal to go potty. He has very few accidents now and is able to hold it throughout the night. He still knows to sit and lay down, but all other training is focused on building his confidence. We are working on learning shake and roll over, but he is not quite there yet.

Casey does have a high prey drive and caught a rabbit in our yard this week. He is good in our fenced yard and has not been able to get loose, but it will be something we will work on in the coming weeks.

His personality is really starting to shine! The more confident Casey gets, the more energy seems to burst from him. He still does not understand the joy of playing with toys, but likes to play softly with our hands and with our resident dogs. His favorite game is playing tag in the yard and keep-away with sticks.

Casey is a sweet Golden Retriever puppy with a handsome face and gentle personality. He was born on March 30, 2018. He was surrendered to RAGOM from a breeder and is still learning how to live the Golden life. His favorite Golden activity is to play and sleep in a warm sun beam.

He has a darling personality, but he is very shy and scared of everyday activities. He is learning from his foster brothers on how to play—he loves doing puppy laps with the other dogs in our yard—and he is learning how to live in a household routine.

He keeps busy by playing with toys (and anything else, including our TV remote, pillows, socks) and follows his foster parents all over the house; he is truly a Velcro dog. He is working on potty training and basic obedience, but already learned to sit and lay down.

He is still nervous and learning to trust his foster parents. He will flinch if petted directly or if petted by surprise, but he loves a chest and neck scratch!

He is learning to get used to quick movement and household noises, such as vacuuming, dish washing, and cooking.

He is also still learning on what he is allowed to play with; as he is very scared of loud noises, we are simply redirecting him instead of using voice commands. We are also primarily using hand command signals for training.

Casey has a short tail, as you may notice right away. The vet was unsure if his tail being cropped is genetic or was from an accident, but if the adopting family is curious, an X-ray can be done to determine the cause.

His tail causes him no pain and is perfectly healed. When he cuddles in for sleep, sometimes his tail nub will dig right into you (ouch!), but he is such a sweet cuddler that you won't want to move him.

Casey is scheduled to be neutered and get his booster shots in the coming weeks. He will also be working on building his confidence to be ready to go home soon!
