Max (Piglet 17-215)

Profile

Piglet came to RAGOM because his owner had to move. He is a loving well mannered senior boy, completely housebroken and knows basic commands. He loves playing with dog toys and is playful for his age. BTW don't let his name fool you. He was named Max prior to being adopted by his last owner. He answers to Max better than Piglet.

Max was adopted today by Jeff and Tami. They are a wonderful couple who will take care of our boy in the best way possible. We will miss Max greatly, but are happy that he has found a forever home. Having a foster dog adopted by this good of a home is the reason we are RAGOM volunteers.

Piglet, aka Max, has now been with us for three weeks.  He has settled into our routine and continues to be a wonderful foster.  We have been using a gentle leader on his walks so he no longer bolts when he sees a rabbit or squirrel.  It appears that he has had experience with a gentle leader before.

Right now he is laying next to me while I type this update.  Max loves humans and is a bit of a Velcro dog. He doesn't demand attention though.  He just wants to be with his humans.

Last week he spent two and a half days with another foster while we were out of town.  Piglet did very well at Cindy and Dan's home.  They have two dogs, male and female Goldens and a cat.  Max liked to play with the younger female dog and did well with the cat.  The temp foster told me that she wouldn't leave Max and the cat alone together however.  Guess that means that he might or might not be completely cat friendly.

Piglet/Max has his intake vet. appointment this week.  We already have done a fecal test and it came back negative.  No parasites,  We also have an official weight, 88.2 pounds.  I will guess his ideal weight at about 85.  He is up to date on all vaccinations until next February so the Vet. visit will only be for a overall checkup.

I think Piglet/Max will be fully cleared to adoption so hopefully he can be in his forever home in time to enjoy a family Turkey dinner.

Please welcome Piglet to RAGOM! Piglet is a 9 year old boy who was surrendered because his owner needed to move and dogs were not allowed. He was originally named Max and renamed following his adoption seven years ago because the owner already had a dog by that name.  The fact is, however, he responds to his old name best. Who wouldn't prefer Max over Piglet?

Piglet has been in his current foster home for one week.  He is extremely loving and a very good companion.  He likes to cuddle and will jump up next to you if invited.  But he respects our wishes, so will stay off furniture.  He knows basic dog obedience commands, is completely house reliable, and sleeps all night long.   He is crate trained.  We haven't left him alone at home for more than 6 hours, so we don't know how he might do if left crated for a full workday.

Piglet loves his walks and doesn't pull on his leash much.  But he does have a prey drive when he sees a rabbit, squirrel or deer.  We haven't tried a Gentle Leader yet, so that might be an option if you have lots of critters in the neighborhood.  He also rides very well in the car.  He lays down or looks out the window so doesn't bother the driver.

Piglet is fairly playful for his age.  He likes dog toys and tug.  He will fetch but isn't obsessed about it like some retrievers.  He takes treats gently and doesn't beg at the dinner table.  His former owner says he will guard bones but not food.  We haven't experienced any such behavior.  His former owner also says he will chew on toilet paper and tissue.  Again, we haven't seen this but we have a very dog proof home since we have been fostering for many years.

Piglet is up to date on all shots but still needs a wellness check with a RAGOM vet.  He may have allergies/hot spots and be inclined to ear infections.  We have just started using "yuck" to keep him from licking his paws and ear cleanser, so don't know if this will solve any potential problems.   He probably would benefit from losing a few lbs. but isn't excessively heavy.  Otherwise he appears to be healthy.

In general, Piglet has been a very easy foster.  He doesn't have any really bad traits or behaviors that we have seen.  Piglet doesn't have many special requirements for the potential adopter either.  So if you would like a mellow senior guy who will return any attention you give him with love many times over, Max (Piglet) would be a excellent choice.
