I am pleased to announce that gorgeous little Mia has been adopted by a great family who will give her all the love and attention that she deserves, while continuing to work with her on all of her fears. She has come a long way in a year. Thank you to everyone who took an interest in Mia!

Mia is still doing well, all things considered. She has had a fairly eventful last couple of months.
In addition to having me with her every day because I’ve had the summer off, she also got to go on a couple of road trips with us, which took her out of her “safe haven” (the top of the stairs at my house) and out among people she doesn’t know in locations she’s never been before.
I don’t think she particularly enjoyed having to leave my house for so long, but I think it was a good experience for her.
Mia is a very good traveler. She never makes a peep, and she lays in the back seat the whole time. Once I stop the car, however, it is a bit of a challenge getting her out of the back seat. To do so takes a certain amount of friendly persuasion (physically lifting her up and nudging her out of the car).
The backseat of the car is another one of her “safe havens,” and she hates to leave it—unless, of course, it is to run into my house. It is probably her favorite spot outside of the house.
Mia may never become a confident dog. But my hope is that one day she can start to enjoy the wonderful life a dog can have. She has made progress in that area, although not enough to make me think she is close to turning the corner. With Mia, patience is the key.

Mia is still doing well. She seems to get a little more comfortable every week, and she is certainly enjoying the warmer late-spring, early-summer weather. This has allowed her to get outside a lot more, which is helping her to get more comfortable with all the sights and sounds of this “new world” she is living in.
And while she continues to make progress, she still is fearful in many situations. Loud noises continue to be her biggest obstacle. Actually, the noises don’t necessarily have to be loud to frighten her. But progress is being made in that area, as well as with potty training.
It had become convenient for her to go to the bathroom in the house, where everything is less scary than it is outside, but she is getting better about going outside now and has been doing great with it for the last month or so.
These are a few things that Mia loves:
- Peanut butter
- Lounging on the couch and looking out the window
- Walks in a quiet park with my two dogs
- More peanut butter
The following are some of the things Mia will be looking for in a forever home:
- A very quiet one or two-adult home
- No children in the home
- A securely fenced yard
- At least one other friendly, confident dog
- A patient owner who will help Mia overcome her fears

Here is a quick update on Mia (formerly Bingo). She is still as cute as ever, and I am happy to report that she is making progress in learning that she doesn’t have to fear everything she encounters. She is also learning how much fun it can be to be a dog. This is wonderful especially considering how bad things were for her the first few years of her life.
Mia loves to engage my girl Cassie in some spirited “wrestling.” She is also loves dragging toys around, pulling a small rock or two out of planters, peanut butter, snuggling on the couch or bed, and she is even learning that walks in the park are fun—as long as no other people are around (she is still working on her fear of people).
Among the more pleasing recent changes to report about Mia is that I no longer have to carry her outside. I can hook her up to her leash, and with just a little nudge she’ll get up and scamper to the door. This is a relief to my back, because even though she is only 43 pounds, carrying her up and down the stairs several times a day wasn’t doing my back any favors.
There is still work to do with Mia, especially in getting her to be less afraid of going to the bathroom outside when there are cars driving by or she hears noises. But with warmer weather ahead, I think Mia’s progression into being a more confident dog will increase even more as we are able to spend more time outside and be around other people.

Mia has now been with me for over three months, and she is still progressing very slowly. But at least she is progressing. Everything is still new and scary to her. Noises, cars, and people are among the scariest things to her. But she is gradually learning that not everything is going to harm her. And hopefully nothing will ever harm her again. But it will take more time to gain her trust.
When Mia is home alone with my two dogs she has a great time. She plays with the dog toys, reorganizes the pillows, snoozes on the couch, and loves to look out the window and watch the world go by.
When I am home, she will retreat to her safe place at the top of the stairs. When she feels comfortable she will come down and hang out with me and my dogs while we watch TV. At night she joins all of us on the bed and sleeps all night without interruption.
Because noise, cars, and people still scare her, it is sometimes difficult to get her to go to the bathroom outside. Therefore, she often goes in the house when I am not home. She is most comfortable outside at night when it is dark and quiet.
Mia is a beautiful and sweet girl! It is a joy to have her around, and it has been fun to watch her make progress, even as slow and gradual as it has been.

Please welcome one of the most recent additions to the RAGOM family, whom we call Mia (known in RAGOM as Bingo). This gorgeous girl was recently rescued from a horrible situation with dozens of other dogs and now she is making the best of her much improved lifestyle by living in a warm house, eating two meals a day, and lounging around on sofas and human beds as much as she wants.
Because of the deplorable situation in which she lived the first four years of her life, she is still very afraid of people. For that reason, she will not be available for adoption for awhile. But she is very slowly making progress and I hope to see that continue over the next several weeks or months.
What I know about Mia so far is that she is cute as a button. She is also very gentle and very quiet. She loves being around my two dogs, which is good because they are then able to teach her “how to be a dog." After nearly three weeks with me, she is still not all that comfortable when I am around….unless she is on a sofa or a bed. She seems to feel more safe when she is up off the floor.
We’ve gone for a few car rides, which she tolerates. And a few walks, which she enjoys. But mostly I am just letting her get comfortable in her new surroundings.
More updates will come as I get to know this beautiful girl and she becomes more comfortable in her foster home.
