In addition to LOVE this dog has the following requirements:
Entered Foster Care Fence Kid Friendly Another Dog Cat Friendly

This is the most recent information available; however, it may change as we learn more about the dog.

We welcomed Piper into our home a week ago. He is a 9-week-old male Golden mix. He comes to us from the Red Lake area. He was picked up as a stray. When he was found, he was dehydrated and malnourished. We have been working hard to get him healthy. He is gaining weight and becoming very playful. He gets along great with the other dogs in the house and wants to play all the time.

I am crate training Piper right now and he is doing very well with it. He keeps his crate clean and dry and sleeps quietly through the night. He will whine at the door to go out. He really likes to go out into the yard and explore. He has not had any accidents in the house; I keep a close eye on him and reacted to his signals to go out right away. I would not say he is house trained, but he is on his way to becoming very successful with it.

Piper is looking for his forever home; if you would like to meet him, please contact your placement advisor.

Piper joined his new family today. Here is the first photo of Piper and his new fur sister, Cutie.

Wow, Piper is chilling out with Finnegan on the couch because as you can see, he went to the meet-and-greet in Shakopee on Saturday. He was in his glory. He wanted to play with all the dogs there and was very curious about all the other dogs. He loves being around other dogs, but also will let you know when he wants to go in his kennel or be by himself. He is a little timid around dogs that may think they are alpha, but he is generally willing to be the second on the totem pole. He is very gentle-mouthed, takes treats very nicely, and does not seem to have any food guarding or anything that he will not want to share. Our three dogs are all fairly good-sized; two of them are 60+ lbs and the other one is about 40 lbs. Becca, the senior, pretty much ignores him, but he has learned and is learning to be in a pack from our dogs. He is definitely a Velcro dog as well; he will lay under your feet when you are at the table and also, I think his main thing is to just be one of the four-legged people in the family. He will be going to the vet on Wednesday and at this point, I cannot detect any health problems. He loves being around "his people" as well. He now follows the other three to go in their kennels. As I write this, Casey is in his kennel and Piper is in his, and they are chilling out. He is probably about the most mellow fellow that I have seen in a while. He could benefit from a little obedience training, but he is a joy to have around and he is a quiet kid on the block.... That's it for today; more in a few days.

Well, once again....I am doing an update at the kitchen table and Piper is right under me as I write this. He is so quiet and accomodating that he just fits into this house really well. He loves knowing that the other dogs are also around and as you can tell by these two pictures, he really loves being with one of his foster brothers. This is Finnegan and Piper on the couch and let me tell you, they are friends for sure. He is in his shedding stage. We brush him every day at least for about five minutes; this helps the shedding, but he is such a lover and has such a pretty coat that it is pretty easy to brush him. He was a bit uneasy about getting his back feet touched and we are working on that as well. We touch his back feet and I also give him a treat when he gets his feet touched; that way, he will know that it is not that bad. We feed him in his kennel at this point, just to make sure there are no problems with the dogs taking each other's food. We have been also leaving his kennel open at night, so if he wants to come out on his bed like he is here, he can have that option. He is thriving on having other dogs around. Casey (one of our Setters) thinks that he is the alpha and Piper will defer to him, but he is getting used to what actually having other four-legged brothers and sisters is about now. He definitely has a Golden personality. He's very sweet, wants to please, and will follow you around. We will be at Chuck & Don's on March 21st. He does need a little bit of work for coming when called, but we are working on that too and he does know hand signals for "down," "sit," and "come." You could not ask for a more go-with-the-flow boy who barely utters a peep. He's asleep on the kitchen floor right now, probably dreaming about his forever home. Hope to see you at Chuck & Don's on Saturday. We'll be posting in a few days.

This is Piper's first update at his temporary foster's home. You can see by the picture that he has gotten into the relaxation phase of being in a new home, at least for the time being at this point. He is a sweetie and that is the first word that would be used for him, he is also very quiet and right now is sitting under my chair as I write this update. His main thing is that he loves to be around other dogs. Our three Irish Setters are showing him what it's like to be as a part of a pack. I took Finnegan and Piper on a walk the other day, and they walked great together, both with Gentle Leaders. He is so good and so eager to please, you don't even know he is there. A couple of things that we are working on are touching his back feet and also brushing. He is in the shedding stage right now, but he is getting used to that as well. He knows his name and also knows basic commands..."sit," "down," "kennel," very willing to learn; he definitely thrives on other dogs....

Piper here, I am in a new place, but it is very cool. There are three red dogs here and the senior gal pretty much goes about her own business. The "boys" and I have a great time, especially Finnegan, the little one; he's a good dude. I'm still getting used to Casey (but it will come). I'm getting used to the couch, bed, and just being around a relaxed family. Oh, one more thing...I will be at the Shakopee meet/greet this Saturday. FM and I would love to meet you. Time to go outside and see what is going on in the neighborhood.

That's all from the H household; more in a few days.

Piper is growing like a weed. It's been too long since I've sent in an update, but not much has changed with the exception of his size....he hasn't been to the vet lately, but I'd guess his weight to be about 40 pounds, and he is getting tall and lanky. His ears are keeping pace with the rest of his growth, so he is just as cute as they come.

Piper is fully potty trained now and is an awesome young man. Although he is still very much a puppy, he is so incredibly well-behaved. The only thing he has gotten into has been a couple pair of shoes (our fault for leaving them out); otherwise, he picks out a toy from the doggie toy box and keeps himself busy. He still sleeps in his kennel most nights, but gets free roam while we are at work most days. He sits nicely for his treats, has never counter surfed, and stays out of the garbage. He stays off the furniture unless prompted to come up and can be such a snuggle bug when he wants to be.

Piper still loves to play with the cats, with our youngest cat being his best friend. He also listens appropriately to our other 4 Goldens when they tell him enough is enough and he settles nicely. He does, however, have a penchant for nibbling on toes....if toes are peaking out from under covers or hanging off a chair, he considers them fair game to be nibbled on....thus, I often sit with my legs under my rear end now! He's really good about stopping when you tell him to, but it's the surprise attack in the first place that has ruined more than one pedicure!

Our little Pipsqueak doesn't bark very often, usually only if the other dogs start it or he's trying to instigate play. He's also getting to be a pretty good retriever when playing ball and brings the ball back...most of the time, lol!

I know Piper is a Golden mix, but he definitely has the heart of a Golden. Between his big ears and his curly tail, he is the cutest guy...plus he has the most beautiful light brown eyes. He will make a wonderful addition to any household, especially if that household includes a cat or two. If you are interested in adopting this cutie, contact your placement advisor. Piper's only Christmas wish is to find a family of his own!

Piper and his best friend, Percy, taking a Saturday afternoon nap

Wednesday, August 6, 2014

Piper is doing well in our home. He has changed a lot in the last two weeks. When Piper first came, his ears were hanging down. On Tuesday, we noticed that one ear was up and one down.

On Thursday, both ears were up. I think that is how they are going to stay. He is very cute and I am sure he will grow into his ears.

The next big change for Piper was his surgery to get neutered. He had surgery this week and is recovering from that. It didn't keep him down very long. He is back to his playful, happy self!

We had to add one thing to his daily routine: the comfy cone! He can't seam to leave his incision alone, so he will be sporting this new look for the next 10 days.

Piper is looking for his very own family. If you would like to meet him, please contact your placement advisor.
