Miss Lambo is an approximately 9 year old spayed female senior Golden Retriever that came into RAGOM a few weeks ago.  Her owner passed away several months ago, and she had been living in the home since then and was being taken care of by family members.  They noticed she had lost weight and wasn't eating well, and they called RAGOM for help with her.  We quickly responded and brought her into our home and RAGOM's care.  We immediately treated her for fleas, cleaned up the mats on her body, and gave her a soothing medicated bath.  We were able to get her into the vet the next morning.  While we didn't have much information about Lambo, we were told that she had knee surgery at one point.  The vet did notice an injury to the other knee.  Lambo's bloodwork showed some values that were not within the normal range, so we will be rechecking them to see how they have changed after a few weeks.  She is also hypothyroid, and we started her on a twice daily medication to correct that.  She is on antibiotics for a skin infection, along with her thyroid medication, a joint supplement, and an antihistamine to help with her itchiness.  Lambo is slightly underweight, so we are feeding her an increased amount of high quality food in hopes to help her gain a few pounds and get her healthier.  Lambo also has a mass in her mouth that will need to be removed, but the vet wants to wait to see how well she responds to current treatments before we start to think about that.  We need to get her healthier before she's a good candidate for anesthesia.  We are diligently working on getting her feeling better and as healthy as we can!  She had a negative fecal and heartworm test, but hasn't been vaccinated yet.  The vet wants to wait until she's healthier to give her any vaccinations.  We will get her microchipped at the next vet visit, as the vet wanted to wait until her skin infection cleared up.

Lambo previously lived with a young dog and for the most part, she gets along fine with our two Goldens (ages 1 and 5).  She did have some space issues for the first week or so, where she would raise her lips and let out a growl or snarl if one of our dogs got too close to her or if she was sleeping and they startled her awake.  Each day there has been improvement, and now it's hardly an issue.  Both of my dogs are very good at reading dog language and quickly backed off and gave her space, so we haven't had any issues.  It's also a possibility that because she isn't feeling well and has a bad knee, she is extra protective.  This may change as we get her feeling better.  She probably wouldn't do well with a dog that isn't as quick to back off when she displays this behavior, but it doesn't disqualify potential families with other dogs!  She would also do great as an only dog.  She really has no interest in playing with other dogs.  She just wants love and attention from her people!  She has shown zero interest in our cats and only sniffed at our guinea pigs, so she can go to an adoptive home with cats or other small animals.  Kids were unknown when she first arrived.  She quickly bonded with both our 8 year old and 11 year old, so she would do fine with kids, as long as they are willing to pet her whenever she asks!  It was reported that she didn't bond well with men, but that hasn't been the case here.  She has fallen in love with every member of our family, and comes up to each of us equally for love and attention!  She particularly loves having her ears and butt scratched.

Lambo is an incredibly sweet and loving old lady.  She is so happy to have a comfy place to nap and lots of hands to give her plenty of love.  She likes sleeping with her head on the bed, or occasionally on the bed if she can get up or get some help up.  She is completely housebroke and can be trusted when we leave.  She tends to scratch at doors if they are closed, especially if she wants on the other side.  She has barked a few times, but isn't too vocal.  Although we have a fenced yard, we think she would do fine without a fenced in yard.  Most of the time she just wants to go potty and come back inside to be with us.  We haven't done walks with her yet due to her painful knee, but as we get her more comfortable, we will add that.  Controlled and somewhat limited exercise for her is important until we know what options she has for her knee.  She did have some difficulty with stairs the first few days, but we have added a pain medication and she has gotten a lot more comfortable.

Lambo is currently unavailable for adoption until we know how she responds to treatment, how her recheck bloodwork looks, and surgical options for her oral mass, but we wanted to introduce this wonderful girl to the RAGOM community!  If you've been considering sponsoring a dog, Lambo is the one!  Her medical expenses are climbing and will only get higher as we work through her medical issues.  Luckily, RAGOM doesn't hesitate to take in dogs like Lambo just because they may require costly medical tests and treatment!  We are so thankful for this!  Enjoy the adorable pictures of our adorable Lambo!  We know you will love her as much as we do!

Lambo, now known as Quinn, has been adopted.  Lab results revealed that her oral mass was cancer and is likely to return, so we decided to officially adopt her for as many weeks, months, or years she has left.  We love her and she loves us!

Lambo (affectionately known as Quinn in her foster home) would like to thank her anonymous friend from Goldzilla for the paw print and donation!

She has done well with the many foster dogs and puppies that have come through our home.  She loves car rides and gets so excited whenever we grab our keys, thinking she gets to go somewhere!  Even though she is a distingished senior and an overall wonderful dog, Lambo/Quinn does have a habit of trying to get into the trash.  If we leave the trash can lid closed inside it hasn't been a problem, it's only when we forget to close it.  It's the same for outside - if the lid is firmly on the trash can, she's fine.  That being said, she has gotten into the trash a few times before we got smart enough to make sure everything was firmly closed!  A minor flaw, for sure, and we think it's funny that the oldest dog in the house is the one to do it!

Our sweet girl will be at the Great Iowa Pet Expo on Saturday, October 22 from 10am-12pm.  Stop by to say hi!

Not a lot of news to report for our sweet girl!  She continues to do well in our home with the multiple foster dogs that go in and out.  She very much prefers the older, less active ones compared to the puppies!

We have had several bad storms lately, and her storm anxiety seems to have gotten worse with each one.  It was initially reported that she would hide in the bathtub during storms.  For the first few, she would hide in our bedroom and be ok.  Then she moved to the bathtub.  Then one day we had a really bad thunderstorm and she decided to try to dig herself out of the bedroom by going through the wall and door.  That night we had another storm, and she tried to dig through the carpet.  Needless to say, we discussed it with the vet and she is now on anxiety meds whenever it storms.  So far, we've had about 5 storms since starting the meds, and it has made a huge difference!  She now just naps in the bedroom in the basement.  It is a fairly cheap medication and is only taken when it is going to storm - ideally an hour or two before it hits.

Her coat is getting much softer and filling in from where she had bald spots.  She is a gorgeous girl!  She has learned how to paw us in the morning if we don't get up to feed her fast enough.  She takes all of her meds hidden in a pill pocket in her food without any problems.  She has gained weight and is at her idea weight now.

Lambo is still unavailable as we are waiting to see if her bloodwork improves enough to get the mass in her mouth removed.  Until then, we are loving and spoiling her, just like she deserves!

Lambo continues to do well in her foster home!  We just love her so much and she's such an easy dog to have around.  She has started to paw at us in the morning on days we try to sleep in, letting us know that she's ready for her breakfast!  After breakfast, she's more than happy to head back to the bedroom for her morning nap.  We work opposite shifts, so she usually sleeps with me at night, and then during the day while my boyfriend sleeps.  Lambo and my 5 year old Golden, Finn, love this arrangement!

Her bloodwork still hasn't improved so we are giving her more time and quality food to see if we can get her health to improve.  She needs to have the mass in her mouth removed, but we can't do that until her bloodwork looks better.  At this time, she is still considered unavailable for adoption.  Now that she's been on a joint supplement since she arrive and has started an NSAID for pain, she is much more comfortable.  She now does stairs without much difficulty.  When she first arrived, she struggled to do even a few stairs.  We do think she would prefer not to have a lot of stairs in her forever home, however, she is able to do them occasionally.

Last weekend, we took a trip to the family farm and Lambo did great!  She met a horse and wasn't scared at all.  We kept her on a long 30 foot leash, but she never strayed more than about 3 feet from us.  She loves her people and wants to be near them constantly!  It was initially reported that Lambo was fearful of men, and this was evident for the first few minutes as she met my boyfriend's dad.  Within minutes, she realized that he would give her attention and pets, so she quickly overcame her fear and was happy to see him for the rest of the visit.  She was a little nervous at first in the car, as we really haven't taken her on many car rides yet.  Other than when we picked her up and for vet visits, she hasn't had many "just for fun" car rides.  We decided to change that, and this week we've taken her on several rides just to get her used to it.  She quickly learned to love it and gets so excited when we ask her if she wants to go for a ride!

Unfortunately, we did not make it up to Goldzilla due to one of our other fosters having kennel cough and exposing everyone in our household (luckily, everyone is vaccinated and didn't contract it), but Lambo wants to thank everyone who donated to RAGOM so we can continue to help dogs like her!

Lambo has settled in nicely in her foster home!  She knows our routine and gets along well with our two resident dogs.  We also have two foster puppies, but she isn't so fond of them.  She sometimes isn't the best at greeting new dogs, especially smaller ones that get in her face, but she gives proper dog signs and we haven't had anything more than a growl from her.  She really prefers the company of her people instead of other dogs, although she is really bonding with our two Goldens.  She loves to curl up on comfy dog beds for naps.  Lambo doesn't show any interest in toys, except she has chewed on a nylabone a few times.   Lambo's skin has healed nicely and her coat has started to fill in.  Her coat is still rough feeling, but it's getting better.  Now that her thyroid condition is managed, it will continue to improve.  We have her on a joint supplement and a pain medication for her rear legs and she seems to be more comfortable.  She will likely never be a long distance walking partner or a dog park candidate, but we hope to keep her comfortable enough to enjoy getting some fresh air and being mobile.  Her bloodwork values are still not the greatest so she will still remain unavailable for now.  We need to get her healthier before we can have the mass removed from her mouth before she can be considered available for adoption.  We are hopeful that this sweet, loving girl has many years left!  She is enjoying her high quality food and has gained 5 pounds since arriving in our care.  She needs to gain a few more, but she's looking better! Lambo has the sweetest smirk when she's happy!  She loves to be petted and soaks in the attention.  She loves everyone equally - kids, women, and men!  Lambo thinks life as a RAGOM dog is pretty amazing and we think she's very happy to have someone home with her almost all of the time since we work different shifts.  She's always up for sleeping during the night and day with whomever is home at the time!  Car rides are very fun for her and she thinks she should get to go along anytime anyone grabs their keys.  We had a bad thunderstorm this week and Lambo was upset.  Normally, she just wants to hide in the bedroom and we have a fan on to muffle the sounds, but this time the power went out and there was a lot of thunder and lightning.  I woke up to her trying to dig in the carpet.  I finally got her to calm down and curl up on the dog bed next to my bed and she did ok for the rest of the night.   Goldzilla is Sunday, September 11th at Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton.  Visit the website at goldzilla.ragom.org to read about all the fun activities for you and your dog, or to create your own fundraising page!  We aren't sure yet if Lambo will accompany us to Goldzilla since it will be a long day for her and fitting 3 dogs into our car for the trip to MN is always a challenge, but we will update her page if she does end up attending.
