Riley has found his forever home with a wonderful, loving family!  He has a new Mom, Dad & human brother to play & snuggle with.  Also, a really large back yard where he can do squirrel and bunny control at all times.  Yes, he will keep his new family safe.  Yay, Riley is staying in Iowa and we will even be able to visit.

Love you Ri Ri, Jackson and I already miss you, but so very happy for all of you!

Hi, Everybody.  It's me, Riley!  You haven't heard from me for awhile cause there have been some changes.  With vacations and so many dogs coming into RAGOM, there has been some re-arranging (whatever that means).  My new foster Mom & fur brother Jack came from Iowa to Minnesota to take me to their home.

My new Mom is retired & stays home with Jack and me.  I like it - we walk every morning & night & we play ball and I love to sit by Mommy and she pets and loves on me.  It is very nice, but I don't want any more fosters, I want a Mommy or Daddy of my own very soon!  Oops, gotta go, that pesky squirrel is bugging me again and I have to check it out.

Ball time -- Jack, Bethany & Riley

Foster Mom here, I told beautiful Riley I'd help him out.  It is true Riley has had more changes than we normally like, but he has adjusted extremely well, slipping easily into our routine.  Riley has perfect house manners; never a potty accident, no begging, plays nicely with toys, especially balls.  He has a blue ball he carries to bed with him each night.  So far I know he can sit, down, shake, wait, catch it, no and has very good recall.  He has had free roam since day one, even when I am gone.  We do walk with a Gentle Leader, as he sometimes pulls and can get distracted. Riley has met my children's three dogs (small, medium, large) with no incidents, even playing some.

Fuzzy pic, Riley & his ears catching a treat!

Riley is a sweet, energetic 8 year old (he thinks & acts like he is 4).  There are two issues that need to be worked on.  He meets people too enthusiastically (being pushy), and the car.  He LOVES!!! car rides but gets very excited & wants to co-pilot.  I now use a dog seatbelt so he cannot roam in the vehicle.

Ri-Ri can be an only dog or live happily with others.  As he can get  excited, a calmer home would be best.  Children are fine but probably at least 10.  He has met & played with my 6 & 8 year old grandchildren with no issues, but I don't think constant stimulation would be a good fit for him.

If you are looking for a loving companion who can walk or even jog with you, Mr. Riley could be your guy!

Riley is the sweetest boy! He is ready to chase a ball or another dog, but just as content to lay by your feet wherever you happen to be. He has had no accidents and lets me know when he needs to go out. He politely waits his turn for treats and takes them gently. We have seen no signs of aggression to humans or animals. He welcomes all visitors with love.

Riley is being treated for ear infections and does not like the medicine we put in, but shows no aggression with this either. After a couple of weeks to settle in, Ri-Ri finally took my resident Sadie's invitation to play and ran and wrestled with her. Warmed my heart! Check out the video.

Please welcome Mr. Riley or Ri-Ri as he is also known here. Riley is a healthy 8 year old Golden who was very loved by his surrendering family. It was a difficult decision for them. Riley was surrendered because he was too excited when people came to visit and would jump.  He knocked over the elderly grandma and toddlers in the home.

He is a very loving boy and knows to sit, lay down and heel as well as leave it. He has free roam and sleeps on the floor by my bed. He gets along with cats and other dogs-even playing gently with a visiting puppy. He has displayed no aggression here, even when yelled at by my resident for being to close to food.

Riley was very anxious at leaving his home after 8 years. He had a rough anxious first few weeks in his first foster home. Riley was attacked and bitten by another dog requiring vet attention to a wound near his eye. This encounter most likely increased his anxiety.  The foster was bitten as well, although the circumstances are not clear to us. Riley was moved to a boarding facility and evaluated by two of our experienced fosters. They found him to be anxious but not in any way aggressive. Very happy and loving with them.  Additional information from Riley's first home and his vet confirmed that Riley had never had any incidents of biting, nor shown any inclination to do so.

When he came to our foster home, he was very anxious-panting heavily. We crated him to give him time to learn our routines and feel safe and secure. He settled down within a couple of hours and slept in his crate. Riley has been here for about 10 days and he is calming down and now has free roam. He is very loving and very mellow here. He has not been jumping on new people that come to visit. Riley just needs a quiet home where he is loved!

What we know so far about Riley's needs in his new forever home:

  • A quiet home with not a lot of activity.
  • Exercise--he is in great health!
  • No children under 12 since Riley was accused of biting. He LOVED my young nephews when they came to visit!
  • A physical fence.
