Riley (Omalley 04-101)

Profile

We picked up O'Malley on Saturday in the Twin Cities and she slept in her crate all the way to Willmar. She has been a lot of fun to have around, and a breeze to take care of, being that we were prepared for the normal puppy stuff. Aside from that she is a very good pup, she gets along great with the two resident goldens and if they are not interested in playing she is happy to play by herself. She loves to be outside, but isn't too fond of being out there alone for too long, she prefers to have her people or foster brother or sister out there with her. She taught herself how to use the stairs and she doesn't take it slow. We almost have to run up the stairs to keep up with her. She is sleeping thru the night, as long as her crate is facing us so if she wakes up she can see that we haven't left her. O'Malley is ready to find her forever home. If you are interested let your placement advisor know.

Our RAGOM dog, Riley, who we adopted in April of 2004, sadly left us on Monday, August 3. She was part of a litter dubbed The Irish Kids as they were surrendered to RAGOM near St Patrick's Day. Her name was O'Malley, but we changed it to Riley to avoid confusion with our son's dog, Ally.

Riley has been an amazing dog. She was docile, quiet, and loving. She had no noticeable arthritis, her hearing and sight were sharp, although she had early cataracts. She could jump up onto our big bed from right next to the bed, with no running start. She was tolerant of our young grandkids. She loved to lie on a pillow. She hated thunder and fireworks, although a thunder shirt did help.

This past Monday morning, Riley ran like the wind to chase bunnies. About midday, she seemed different. She could not bend down to her water dish, but drank when I lifted it to her. She could not stand on her back legs. We took her to the U of M, where they said she was "spacially disoriented". They offered to do rather extensive diagnostic tests, but the vet admitted that it was very unlikely that she would be diagnosed with a durable, or treatable condition. We made the very difficult decision to help her to the Rainbow Bridge. We stayed with her, fed her some chicken, which she loved and watched her at peace.

We miss her so very much. We appreciate all that RAGOM does to give these beautiful animals the love and home they deserve. Thank you for the wonderful gift of Riley.
