Welcome to RAGOM, little Nell. She and her sisters, Lizzy and Kassie, came from a small commercial breeder in Iowa. Nell is a purebred Golden Retriever, weighs about 10.6 pounds, and is ten weeks old. She has a low-grade heart murmur which may heal itself as she grows up. Otherwise, she is in good health and got puppy shots this week at the vet. Nell’s father is a large, light-colored dog and mom is very red. Nell has a lovely, light-colored coat. After her bath, she was a ball of fluffy puppy.

Nell has a nice personality. She is playful and sweet. She likes to play with toys and snuggle with dogs and people. When picked up and held, Nell nestles into your shoulder and makes contented sounds. She loves to be held and is a very mellow puppy.

She likes other dogs and children. With her thick, fluffy coat, she enjoys exploring outdoors even if it’s snowy, cold, and windy. She will play on her own with her toys. She has the funny habit of laying down to eat and sometimes to drink.

Nell is a puppy. That means chewing and housebreaking and training. She will require lots of your time for play and training and exercise. She will in turn give lots of love and affection and a lifetime of companionship. Nell will probably grow up to be a large dog. She is beautiful now both in looks and personality. If you are ready to give Nell what she needs, contact your placement advisor. She will not be able to join her new family until she is spayed later this month, but she is ready to meet her family now and waiting for her forever home.

Updates

Tuesday, March 31, 2015

This is Nell’s final update. She met her adopter, Katie, and her dog, Sally, a couple of weeks ago but we waited a bit for her spay operation. In those two weeks, Nell gained about six pounds and grew quite tall. She’s sixteen pounds now, microchipped, up-to-date on shots, and growing more confident and excited by all there is to explore out in the world. She is almost housebroken. There are very few accidents. She goes to the door and no longer slips behind a chair.

Nell has become a great playmate for our resident dog, Bella. She will be missed. Gypsy has also played with her more than any other puppy we have fostered. She fits into our pack and the older dogs spoil her rotten by letting her have her way most of the time.

As the weather warmed up some and the ground unfroze, Nell began digging for treasure in the backyard and would bring in pennies and hide them behind chairs or drop them on her dog bed. She was comfortable and compliant about going into her crate, but preferred the dog bed a few feet away when given free roam. She’d look up at you like she was saying, "I’m more grown up now and you can let me sleep here.” Of course, she would still rather sleep on the bed.

Nell is now at her new home in Northfield, going on walks with Katie and Sally. Have a good life, Nell, I mean Rosie. You are a real sweetheart and were so fun to foster. I’m sure you will make their life lively and keep Sally and Katie busy.

Nell is continuing to learn about her world. She chases leaves blowing across the yard. She loves to chase her balls and empty yogurt cups as they skid across the floor. She is wrestling with her housemate, Resident Bella, and getting Gypsy to play as well. Unfortunately, Bella taught her to take my shoe. She is often dragging her dog bed to a new spot in the room. With warmer weather, her favorite place to nap is under a lawn chair. She is very contented to be outside and enjoy all the sights and sounds. She loves to run in circles in a pile of leaves and hear the sound she makes.

Nell is spending nights in her crate to prepare for living in her new home. She is progressing with her housebreaking. Being outside more has helped. She had several days of no accidents indoors, but she still goes behind a chair in the living room sometimes and pees on the puppy pads placed there.

She is happy to go for a walk and be on a leash. She struts around on her little pink leash and likes meeting people. She is going on more car rides to help with expanding her world.

This week, Nell found her voice and she has a sharp bark. When she wants food or treats or to be let in or out, she will bark. This has its merit especially on the let-me-in-or-out part.

Over the weekend, Nell had a visit from Katie H and her 14-year-old RAGOM dog, Sally. After spending time together, we all agreed that Nell had found her new family. She will be spayed in few couple of weeks, and then her adoption will be finalized. Nell will be called Rosie and move to Northfield, MN.
