We adopted Cherokee #02-214 in August 2002 as a puppy from a litter of 11. (All were named for cars.) She had blue eyes that turned a medium brown. We named her Ruby. She was a lively pup and became a good family dog. She never got up on counters or furniture. She had some issues (some that puzzled the vet). She had allergies and itchy skin every summer and fall. She developed an irregular head shape which caused one ear to stick up. This didn't seem to bother her except she had a dry nose. Anyway, we called her our "million dollar dog" when we visited the vet, as we did often. The staff there knew her and loved her. Our friend, Mary who dog sat for us loved her too. She was a good trooper and was friendly to everyone. Sometimes too friendly for people who don't like dogs. She developed lymphoma in January and was able to stay pretty comfortable until about two weeks ago. Our vet, Dr. Jean, came to the house to put her peacefully to sleep on July 17. We will miss her and we are thankful that we had her as long as we did. |
