Meet Mr. Rupert, a beautiful Golden mix who is approximately 1 year old. He was found as a stray in Ohio and arrived into RAGOM's loving care on Oct 6th.

Rupert weighed in at 56 lbs at his vet appointment and will need to add a few pounds. Some patchy areas from mange are healing up nicely on his face. He will receive some booster shots at the end of October and be scheduled for his neuter shortly after that, and then be ready for his forever home.

Some things to know about Rupert

  • A Sweet, Gentle Soul
  • Has occasional moments of excitement, but settles down quickly
  • Loves, Loves, Loves people
  • Kid tested and approved
  • Likes other dogs (don't know about cats)
  • Needs to continue to learn about manners and basic commands (but is such a good student)
  • Walks nice on the Gentle Leader (not so nice without the Gentle Leader)
  • Does well in a wire crate
  • Graduated to sleeping in the people bedroom and slept all night... (no snoring)
  • Will follow you everywhere
  • His foster mom is absolutely crazy about him!

Not too long ago, we thought Rupert had his forever family. This couple sure loved him and he was full of hugs and kisses for them too. It was unfortunate that when they brought him home, their resident male German Shepherd/Golden mix did not like him in his home. A few scratches and some scary rumbles from both of the dogs later, Rupert is back at my house. I think finding his match for humans is easy, but finding the right match for a canine friend may need further investigation. His canine friend should be patient and teach Rupert how the games are played. He is a good student.

Rupert is such a loving, loyal boy. Here he is with my 3-year-old granddaughter.

Rupert continues to love to chase and wrestle with my resident 2-year-old Golden.

Rupert is trying so hard to make friends with The Cat, Harry, but Harry will have none of that.

Rupert and Riley are great friends; they sleep and play together.

Rupert has been doing well; he appears to have settled in quite nicely. He has been playing with my grandkids and plays very well with them. He especially likes to sit on my teenage daughter's lap and he has been a very effective foot warmer. He loves to snuggle and gives gentle kisses.

He has been enjoying rope toys and Nylabones, and an occasional boot string and my neck pillow string. He would really enjoy an elk antler or hooves, but not allowed at this time, because my senior Foster Honey 01-240 does not like to share and it is a high-value item between these two.

Rupert has ran out the front door a couple of times and we found 2 of his weaknesses: one is he runs to the first dog he sees. He usually wants to meet and play with my neighbors' dogs and he likes car rides, so he will jump in the car. I have also quickly leashed up my resident dog and Rupert follows us home. As we are getting to know Rupert better, we all agree someone will be a very lucky to have him, as he is quite smart and very affectionate. Any questions about Rupert, speak with your Placement advisor.

Rupert here!

Foster mom got this cute picture of me that she wanted to share right away. She just loves my eyes! I get walks, two good meals, and tons of hugs, scratches and pets every single day. I can see why they call this the Golden Life!

Rupert is doing just great! He is all up-to-date on shots and passed his second vet check with flying colors. His weight was up 2 lbs and his face is healing well. He is scheduled to be neutered on November 12th, and then in a few days, he will be ready for his forever home!

He got along great with my daughter's two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels this past weekend. Rupert was ready to play, so again would just need some monitoring as he doesn't realize how strong and exuberant he is.

Rupert's FUN FACTS:

  • Would love a fenced yard for exercise, but not mandatory as long as he gets some good walks and daily exercise.
  • Eats very FAST, so now eats his kibble from a muffin tin which really helps.
  • Loves stuffed animals.
  • Rides well in the car.
  • Would love the company of another dog, but again not mandatory.
  • Could be a FUN running partner.
  • Had a fantastic memory...chased a squirrel up a tree 2 weeks ago and still checks that tree every day.
  • House trained. Only one accident that was not his fault as foster mom tuned him out.
  • Will need a family that is committed to training so Rupert can blossom into the amazing dog he is meant to be..
  • Does have some puppy behavior at times, like trying to chew on inappropriate items, etc.
  • Has such a FUN personality and is loving Soaking up all the LOVE.
  • He has crate time several times during the day and tolerates that well.
  • Is an EXCELLENT foot warmer.
  • Is such a Handsome, Sweet Boy!

Rupert would love to meet you if you think he is a good fit for your family.
